As the use of smart phones grows across the nation, both President Obama and Mitt Romney are seeking to leverage the technology with new campaign apps. The Romney campaign on Tuesday launched a free app called "Mitt's VP," which will allow users to learn who Romney has chosen to serve as his running mate as soon as it's announced. "There's no telling when Mitt will choose his VP. But when he does, be the first to find out with Mitt's VP app," the campaign teased on its website. The app, available on iPhone and Android platforms, will give users immediate...

This is going to shock the hell out of some IRS auditors I know. VIDEO This is funny, except when you consider that the point Reid is trying to make is (I think) that you can avoid paying taxes if you stop making money. Meaning that if you quit your job and become dependent on government subsidies and entitlements you can stop paying taxes. Which is true, I guess, but not exactly in keeping with the principles of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” that this country was founded upon.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he heard from a Bain investor who heard that Mitt Romney paid exactly zero taxes for 10 years, Reid tells The Huffington Post's Sam Stein and Ryan Grim. . Reid said Romney's dead father would be "so embarrassed" by his son. Then he recounted how a Bain Capital investor called him a month ago and said, "Harry, he didn't pay any taxes for 10 years." Acknowledging that's awfully slim evidence, Reid offers this massive asterisk: "He didn't pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain… But...

ALEPPO, Syria and BEIRUT, Lebanon | As evidence mounts that foreign Islamists are fighting alongside Syria's increasingly radicalized rebels, Christians in Aleppo and elsewhere are taking up arms, often supplied by the regime. "We saw what happened to the Christians in Iraq," Abu George, a Christian resident of Aleppo's Aziza district told GlobalPost. "What is going on in Aleppo is not a popular revolution for democracy and freedom. The fighters of the so-called Free Syrian Army are radical Sunnis who want to establish an Islamic state." For seven years, the people of London has been preparing for the Olympics. The city has been scrubbed clean and new facilities were constructed for the big event. City leaders have been very proud of the massive effort that it took to stage the Olympics. Unfortunately, there have been a number of real problems such as a lack of security personnel and hundreds of empty seats at numerous events. The embarrassing footage has forced organizers to fill in seats with members of the British military.

Election 2012: Lech Walesa, the Polish patriot and former president of Poland, and another ally our president has betrayed, endorses the GOP candidate's quest to restore U.S. leadership in the struggle against the world's despots. Walesa knows a thing or too about resisting and defeating collectivist tyranny, and he has no tolerance for those such as President Obama who appease and apologize to it. Unlike Obama, he earned his Nobel Peace Prize by leading the Solidarity movement that brought freedom to a Poland that suffered for decades under the Nazi jackboot, then as part of the Soviet gulag. WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's re-election effort is paying close attention to two candidates mounting third-party campaigns for the presidency, believing they could draw votes from Republican rival Mitt Romney and help Obama win a few tightly contested states. One candidate is Virgil Goode, a former conservative Virginia congressman who is running as a member of the Constitution Party. The other is Gary Johnson, a former two-term Republican governor of New Mexico who is the Libertarian Party's presidential nominee. I’m getting sick of the rewriting of 2008 presidential campaign history as K Street Republicans continue to assault Sarah Palin in the fear that a similarly conservative Republican will rise to the top of the VP sweepstakes. It has been so fashionable in D.C. Republican circles to bash the Palin nomination as a mistake, ill-conceived or even disastrous, that even Dick Chaney has gotten into the act. These self-serving attempts to change history are nothing more than a smear campaign designed to influence the Romney VP pick by obscuring the truth that the choice of Sarah Palin to...

I got into writing and thinking about politics because I was told there would be no math. Boy, was I misled. It’s not just the torrent of polls that we have to deal with, but the numbers that supposedly forecast Presidential elections with uncanny accuracy. Depending on whom you turn to, the key lies in second quarter real GDP growth, the optimism or pessimism of the electorate, individual or family real income growth or a dizzying mix of these and other measurements. They’re usually economic, although one prognosticator—Allan Lichtman, history professor at American University—uses broader measurements, asking whether the incumbent...

Politically -- and this is important because it is critical that he win, or he won't be able to implement any policies and set America back on the road to recovery -- Romney has shown again he is going to take the gloves off, deal with the issues directly and draw a stark contrast between his policies and Obama's record. In a new Gallup poll, Americans rank President Obama’s campaign goals low on the list of priorities the next president should pursue in office. In the poll, Gallup listed a dozen policy goals and asked, “How important a priority should each of the following issues be for the next president — extremely important, very important, somewhat important, or not that important?” The issues, which Gallup researchers listed in random order, were: Improving the nation’s public schools; Reducing the federal budget deficit; Dealing with environmental concerns such as global warming; Creating good jobs; Overcoming political gridlock in Washington; Ensuring the long-term...

DETROIT (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden, in a speech Sunday to the nation's second largest teachers unions, said Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney doesn't treat public education as a priority and distrusts the hardworking teachers who struggle to create opportunity for the nation's young people. Biden addressed 2,500 delegates at the American Federation of Teachers national convention in Detroit on Sunday. Biden painted Romney as planning to gut education funding to finance tax breaks for the wealthy. From what Romney and his GOP rivals said during the primary debates, "it looks like they don't think public education is worth...

25 years ago, Newsweek published a controversial cover story titled "Bush Battles the 'Wimp Factor.'" On Monday, newsstands will carry an equally controversial albeit derivative Newsweek cover story titled "Mitt Romney: A Candidate With a Serious Wimp Problem": In 1987, this magazine created a famous hubbub by labeling George H.W. Bush a “wimp” on its cover. “The Wimp Factor.” Huge stir. And not entirely fair—the guy had been an aviator in the war, the big war, the good war, and he was even shot down out over the Pacific, cockpit drenched in smoke and fumes, at an age (20) when...

A generation ago, it was the three I’s. A presidential challenger’s obligatory foreign trip meant Ireland, Italy, and Israel. Mitt Romney’s itinerary is slightly different: Britain, Poland, and Israel.

Not quite the naked ethnic appeal of yore. Each destination suggests a somewhat more subtle affinity: Britain, playing to our cultural connectedness with the Downton Abbey folks who’ve been at our side in practically every fight for the last hundred years; Poland, representing the “new Europe,” the Central Europeans so unashamedly pro-American; Israel, appealing to most American Jews but also to an infinitely greater number of passionately sympathetic Evangelical Christians.

In 2004, as Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney banned the sale of assault weapons like the one used to spray 50-60 bullets a minute in the Colorado massacre. On FOX News, Romney explained his position as follows: "I believe the people should have the right to bear arms, but I don’t believe that we have to have assault weapons as part of our personal arsenal." That seems like a perfectly reasonable position, no? (Seriously: Do we really need to be able to buy and own these things? Is that really in the best interests of our society? Really?) Unfortunately, in...

The news of Cheney’s interview airing on ABC tomorrow morning (Monday) on GMA is making its Sunday-rounds. The MSM couldn’t be happier. While the entire interview has yet to be released, it appears Mr. Cheney has decided to do his part for his establishment-buddies by attacking his own party’s last VP nominee in lieu of going after the nation’s biggest elected mistake of all time – Barack Obama. In response, good conservatives all across the web are responding. Mark Levin stated this morning: (emphasis) “John McCain ran a terrible campaign; the Bush-Cheney administration had become very unpopular with the American...
