LANSING, MI - President Barack Obama is slightly leading challenger Mitt Romney in the latest poll of likely Michigan voters. The Marketing Resource Group poll of 600 likely voters, conducted Sept. 10 through Friday and given to MLive, showed the Democratic incumbent and Vice President Joe Biden with 47.5 percent and his Republican rival and running mate Paul Ryan with 42.3 percent. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points, meaning Obama had a slight edge. Eight percent were undecided.
  • Romney Talks Bluntly of Those Dependent on Government

Mitt Romney described almost half of Americans as “dependent upon government” during a private reception with donors earlier this year and said those voters will likely support President Obama because they believe they are “entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it.” The blunt political and cultural assessment by the Republican presidential candidate offers a rare glimpse into Mr. Romney’s personal views as the campaign enters its final 50 days. Liberals quickly condemned the remarks as insensitive and Mr. Obama’s campaign accused him of having “disdainfully written off half the nation.” The recordings surfaced even as Mr. Romney...

The mainstream media may have outdid even their own gutter level standards in obsessing over Mitt Romney's statement(s) about the still growing crisis in the Middle East rather than the "the fact that you have Islamic flags being hoisted over American Embassies, the fact that an American Ambassador is dead," as exasperated liberal commentator and Obama supporter Kirsten Powers even had to fume about during an interview with Fox's Megyn Kelly (below).  "It is just absolutely, utterly insane," Powers nearly screamed in frustration over the shameless incompetence of her liberal media colleagues. You know the Obama-sycophants in the liberal media...

  • Romney's Scattered Campaign Message Baffles Strategists

Coming at a moment of international crisis, as U.S. embassies in the Middle East were beset by anti-American protests, the interview brought shudders from some Republicans who fear the Romney campaign is running aground in its final stretch. "Deaver is turning over in his grave," said one prominent Republican strategist, referring to Michael Deaver, the late image-maker for Ronald Reagan. The Republican asked for anonymity, because he did not want to go public with his growing despair over the GOP ticket’s prospects for winning this fall. "I can’t get my head around this," said John Weaver, a former strategist on...
  • Republicans Endorse Platform Language to Dismantle Most of the Federal Government*

I wish the Republican Platform was binding. Why? Because the GOP, for all intents and purposes, has just proposed to eliminate the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Health and Human Services, along with a host of other government programs, agencies, and departments.More specifically, they endorsed the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which means they put themselves on record in favor of getting rid of all federal spending and intervention that is inconsistent with the Founding Fathers’ vision of a...

No matter where you live in the USA, you can make a difference in this election by going to I live in NY, a hopelessly blue state. There is very little I can do locally to help Romney. However, they have an excellent phone-from-home system this year, much better than other phone banks I've done before. I started making phone calls from home for Romney. It is easy, well-supported, and free. It is important to start now so they can target the right people for the campaign. You can get started at will direct your calls to the...

  • Will Romney's Foreign-Policy Fumble Doom His Campaign?(Lefty Panties in a Twist Alert)

Will Mitt Romney look back on this day as the blunder that doomed his campaign? It's too soon to tell, of course. But the reaction to his recent foreign-policy moves has been overwhelmingly negative, from Republicans and Democrats alike, to the point that some wonder whether it could begin to disqualify him in voters' minds. Romney's response to the incidents of the last 24 hours -- the storming of the American embassy in Cairo and the killing of the American ambassador and three others in Libya -- is widely being regarded as hasty and ham-handed. From his initial statement late...
  • Persistent Pragmatism Over Relentless Radicalism

...As Obama told former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev in March, "This is my last election ... After my election I have more flexibility." Of course I wish we had a candidate with consistent conservatism that we could trust in, but, we don't and we can't change that now, and with the survival of the country at stake, I would much rather take my chances with persistent pragmatism rather than relentless radicalism. I have been thinking about how to put this in writing for several weeks now, and then it occurred to me, America is one election away from becoming “the fat kid.” The kid on the playground that is nice, but no one wants on their team. The kid that gets a trophy for showing up because “it boosts his self esteem.” The kid that earns Cs and spends hours eating cheetos and playing on the x-box. The kid who’s Mom still cuts up his fruit and still cuts the crust off his sandwiches. The kid, who still doesn’t drive, doesn’t...

Before the barrage of ad homs begins, ask yourself this question: why did the Romneys let themselves get sucked into this kind of talk on Meet the Press (with David Brooks) on Sunday in the first place? Why is she saying that they (the Romneys) know what it is like to struggle, and then proffer her own personal health struggles as evidence that they know what it is like to struggle? Why are they letting themselves get sucked into this.... .... because the inevitable question surfaces and arises: voters will feel empathy towards Ann Romney, but they will ask how...

Mitt Romney’s campaign is pinning its hopes that its big cash advantage will help the GOP nominee against President Obama, who is leading in the polls. “The goal has always been ‘let’s get into October and be within striking distance,’ ” a GOP strategist close to the Romney campaign told The Hill on Monday. “We’re going to have a financial advantage these last two months in the air wars, from the campaign as well as the third-party independent groups.” Romney had a $60 million cash-on-hand edge over Obama as of the end of July. While Obama edged Romney in August...
  • Team Romney Must Sharpen Its Message

The November elections are a Republican landslide begging to materialize, but will the GOP make it happen? I believe so. I'm not buying these negative polls, but to increase our chances, let's sharpen the message, not dilute it. A recent Fox News story reports that Romney and Ryan are both beginning to emphasize a bipartisan message rather than sharpen the contrasts between Obama's manifest failures and their plan for America. They must not follow this suicidal path. Now is not the time for them to go all John McCain on us and downplay what Obama has done or to apologize...

Does anyone remember the American Jobs Act? A year ago President Obama proposed boosting the economy with a combination of tax cuts and spending increases, aimed in particular at sustaining state and local government employment. Independent analysts reacted favorably. For example, the consulting firm Macroeconomic Advisers estimated that the act would add 1.3 million jobs by the end of 2012. There were good reasons for these positive assessments. Although you’d never know it from political debate, worldwide experience since the financial crisis struck in 2008 has overwhelmingly confirmed the proposition that fiscal policy “works,” that temporary increases in spending boost...
