Those who serve in our Armed Forces deal with challenges and difficulties on a daily basis. Sometimes the challenge is not in dealing with what lies ahead, but what they left behind. We first became aware of Zoe, an adorable 4 year old Pekingese, while scrolling through the pages of an area animal rescue site. Our two dogs came to us from the same organization, and we check from time to time to see information on animals they are helping. Zoe's human mom and dad were having to give her up. Mom had served in the Army Military Police, and...

  • War and Sacrifice in the Post-9/11 Era (34% of Post-911 Vets say Iraq & Afghanistan Were Worth it)

Veterans who served on active duty during the post-9/11 era consider themselves more patriotic than other Americans, and most see the military as an efficient and meritocratic institution. They have a more positive view than the general public about the overall worth of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and the tactics the military has used to wage them. Even so, only one-third (34%) of these veterans say that both wars have been worth fighting. Looking at the conflicts individually, 50% of post-9/11 veterans say the decade-old war in Afghanistan has been worth fighting and 44% view the 8½-year-old conflict in...

At first glance, he doesn’t seem to have much in common with 21st-century New Yorkers. He was one of 12 children born to farmers in Connecticut. He was fluent in Greek and Latin by age 14, when he enrolled at Yale. He graduated to teach school, including a class for girls that met at dawn. When revolution broke out two years later, he enlisted with the rebels. He was hanged for espionage 235 years ago today, near what’s now 66th Street and Third Avenue, when the British Army caught him spying on its plans to invade Manhattan. He was 21....

The jet-setting Obamas arrived at their $50,000 per week Martha's Vineyard vacation destination yesterday on separate taxpayer provided jets. The extravagant travel choice flies in the face of Barack Obama's war on private jet owners and his call for "shared sacrifice" to ease the exploding federal budget deficit.Michelle Obama and the two Obama daughters took what appears to be a Gulfstream jet while the president and family dog Bo flew Air Force One to a nearby airfield and were then taken by helicopter to Martha's Vineyard, according to an account by the Martha's Vineyard Gazette and other reports. No reason was...

The article below is from the American Journal of Sociology vol. 43 (July 1937 – May 1938). pp. 894-907. It describes the early history of the Nation of Islam, including the direction by founder, Fard Muhammad, that members each sacrifice four whites. This article provides some original evidence regarding the foundation of the Black Nationalist movement on Gnostic occult principles, which has never changed. Black Nationalism, including all of its branches, remains today an occult movement based on a hatred of whites, hatred of America and a radical rejection of the concepts of traditional Christianity.

For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.( I John 3:11-15)Love...

For thousands of years, society subsisted on barter and gold coins. The vast majority of the population struggled to feed themselves. Farming, hunting, and self-defense were the great occupation of the human race. But there had always been trade, and shops, and towns…from Ancient times through the Middle Ages, and on through the Enlightenment. Eventually, there was enough data in place that wise people could study it, and could begin to grasp how commerce worked, so that public policy could be crafted, and societies developed, in manners that would foster something greater than subsistence, perhaps even something like prosperity. The...
  • Obama's 2012 Theme: Republican Spending Cuts Didn't Work, So We Must Ask the Rich to Sacrifice More

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: I went to the WhiteHouse.gov, and their headline: "Bipartisan Debt Deal: A Win for the Economy and Budget Discipline." It's a very long piece, I'm not going to read the whole thing to you. But it is the most straightforward and complete outline of the deal from the White House perspective that there is, and at WhiteHouse.gov they are beside themselves with joy. This post crows about how this debt deal locks in Obama's runaway spending. They're ecstatic about how it slashes the military and protects entitlements, even locks in the end of the Bush tax cuts....

Printer Friendly BUDGET: Senator Murray Calls on Republicans to Put Middle Class Families over Tax Breaks for Millionaires Senator Murray: Republicans don’t understand shared sacrifice, American families do. July 6, 2011 (Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), as a part of ongoing budget negotiations, spoke on the Senate floor calling on Republicans to stop protecting tax-breaks for oil companies and corporate jets over much-needed support for struggling middle-class families. During the speech, Senator Murray also called for shared sacrifice in the efforts to reduce the debt and deficit. “I’m here to ask Republicans why they are asking...

Obama calls for a 'balanced approach,' sacrifices in debt dealBy Jamie Klatell - 07/09/11 06:04 AM ET As the debate intensifies over raising the debt ceiling and kick-starting the economy, President Obama attempted to rise above the fray in his weekend address. "We can meet our fiscal challenge," the president said. "That’s what the American people sent us here to do. They didn’t send us here to kick our problems down the road. That’s exactly what they don’t like about Washington. They sent us here to work together. They sent us here to get things done." Obama sounded a positive...

Wednesday’s so-called Twitter town hall meeting conducted by President Barack Obama was certainly unprecedented. But was it a sign of trouble at Obama reelection headquarters in Chicago? Over the past few weeks, Democrats in Washington, D.C., have been driving the message of “shared sacrificed” as it pertains to the federal government’s fiscal policy going forward in dealing with record deficit and debt issues. But in an appearance on Wednesday’s “The Laura Ingraham Show,” National Journal congressional correspondent Major Garrett explained there were some unresolved questions, especially when it comes to the question of what Americans are getting for their sacrifice....

As the America I served in uniform for 4 years in the early Vietnam era sinks closer to abandoning the ideals, values and freedoms we all take for granted and for which so many have struggled and died defending here and abroad, I'm reminded that we're in this mess because so many have never learned or just forgotten that freedom is anything but free. It is HARD – and too often DEADLY -- WORK. As I searched for a photo in my computer library recently, an image jumped off the screen at me and brought to mind a personal...

Talk about a sacrifice that will warm your heart. A group of older Japanese folks are asking for permission to clean up the contaminated nuclear power station in Fukushima. More than 200 retirees are volunteering to take the place of young people who are exposing themselves to high levels of radiation. The group figures they have less than 20 years to live and will be dead before any radiation induced cancer develops. It's a different story for the young people who have battled in this war zone for three months and are at great risk for developing cancer as they...

As conservatives suffer endless repetitions of the solemn, soggy Democratic mantra of “shared sacrifice,” they need to resist the powerful temptation to snarl back, “I’m already sacrificing more than enough, thank you very much!” Of course it’s only natural to feel righteous indignation toward some smug lefty who wants to take money out of your pocket, but it’s more important in this situation to win the substantive argument by underlining the core distinction between what government gives and what government takes. As the euphoria fades following Osama bin Laden’s demise and the nation gets back to the bitter business of...

Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.(Psalm 40:6-8)The Psalms of the Bible, can only be fully appreciated when one realizes that they are the prayers not only of Israel, but of Israel’s Messiah. The body of a soldier who died along with his record breaking sniffer dog in Afghanistan last week will be returned home to the UK. Lance Corporal Liam Tasker, from Kirkcaldy in Fife, was shot dead while on patrol in Helmand province. The ashes of the 26-year-old's dog Theo will be flown home on the same plane. L/Cpl Tasker, who was called a "rising star" by Army chiefs, was shot by Taliban snipers and Theo died of a seizure shortly after his master. The soldier and his 22-month-old dog had made 14 finds in five months while on the frontline.
