Detroit may be trying to repair it's public image by calling Devil's Night Angel's night but the fact is Detroit is infamous for the arson spree taking place on Halloween night. Firefighters will face another night of it on Saturday and though the fires now don't burn like they did in the 80's and 90's the danger is still there. Right now, as this post is typed, Detroit firefighters are operating on a heavily invloved structure on Casper Street. It's nothing new to Detroit. Fire activity has been high for 35 years as Detroit has gone from a city to...

SABBATH VS. SUNDAY: THE REST OF THE STORY'Deception': Christians war over worship day Two thousand years after Jesus walked the Earth, Christians are at war with each other concerning – as strange as it may sound – a day of the week mentioned in the Ten Commandments. The issue boils down to: "When is God's Sabbath?" In other words, what is His holy day of rest? Most Christians today think it's Sunday, when the majority of churches hold services. But others confidently say it's Saturday, calling Sunday worship "the most flagrant error of mainstream Christianity," believing Sunday-keepers are victims of...

David Broder calls South Carolina a must-win for Barack Obama, perhaps the 3,471st time a pundit has designated a state as such for a political candidate this year -- and we're only at January 23rd. Broder argues that after supposedly underperforming in New Hampshire and Nevada, Obama has to win the Palmetto State to maintain credibility. He has it exactly backward: South Carolina has become a must-win state for Barack Obama. Whatever the outcome of Saturday's Democratic presidential primary here, the Illinois senator has the money and the organization to compete in the nearly two dozen states voting on Feb....

The most important aspect of immigration reform is to secure the border. The media and the pro-illegal agenda have created the myth that we can’t secure the border unless we do something for the 11 million. All of the bills being proposed in the US Senate only delay the House bill that deals directly with the border problem. American voters want to remove the 11 million out of this country by attrition and enforcement • The recall election of Pro-illegal immigration Governor Grey Davis was won by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who also got 31 percent of the Hispanic vote after opposing...

For some students at the New School, in Manhattan, their institution and conservative politicians go together as well as Swiss cheese and peanut butter. Bob Kerrey, the institution’s president and a former Democratic governor and senator from Nebraska, announced this spring that U.S. Sen. John McCain, the Arizona Republican and past and possibly future presidential candidate, would be the commencement speaker at the New School. Kerrey said the senator’s acceptance “is a big honor for our graduates and their families.” But hundreds of students, staff and faculty members at the institution of about 9,000 students have signed paper and online...

April 22, 2006 Saturday in the Octave of Easter Psalm: Saturday 18 Reading 1Acts 4:13-21 Observing the boldness of Peter and Johnand perceiving them to be uneducated, ordinary men,the leaders, elders, and scribes were amazed, and they recognized them as the companions of Jesus. Then when they saw the man who had been cured standing there with them, they could say nothing in reply. So they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, and conferred with one another, saying,“What are we to do with these men?Everyone living in Jerusalem knows that a remarkable signwas done through them, and we cannot deny it.But so that it may...

Shouldn't we Keep Sunday in Honor of the Resurrection? It is true that Jesus rose on the first day of the week, but nowhere is there the slightest intimation in the Bible for anyone to keep that day holy. The basis for Sabbathkeeping is the direct handwritten command of God. Many wonderful events occurred on certain days of the week, but we have no command to keep them holy. Jesus died for our sins on Friday. That is probably the most significant event in all of recorded history. It marks the moment my death sentence was commuted and my salvation...

Guess who's hosting this edition of the singles thread!?! Scary, ain't it folks. Anyhow, in the process of cleaning out boxes, it came to me....the questions that we all ask ourselves as we uncover chunks of our long lost past..... What WAS I thinking!?! So, my questions to all of you are: What hobby or interest did you have when you were younger that you still have a passion for? Ok, now....is there something you used to do that you now think "I can't believe I used to like that!" Same with music--- What was your favorite band/song in highschool,...

Reporter's Notebook: The Making of "Winning Iraq" By Greg Palkot FNC's Greg Palkot It was one of those good news/bad news offers. The good news is you get to go to Iraq to do something more than the typical schedule of live shots. The bad news is you get to go to Iraq and do more than the typical schedule of live shots. Meaning: You put yourself in as much harm's way as nearly possible to find out how people not trying to cause harm are living. You see the point is, we, out of necessity in the business,...

Most candid souls will admit that the world is in spiritual pain. Continual disregard of Fatima's warning will doom generations to spiritual bankruptcy. This is especially true in the disregard for the First Saturday devotions. The America Needs Fatima campaign is making a special effort to help Catholics remember. Our Blessed Mother has given us the means to heal and restore order, harmony and peace with a simple solution of prayer and penance, and following the Five First Saturday's specific instructions. The America Needs Fatima staff is promoting this devotion in a 425,000 prayer-card campaign. Five individual cards have been...

Dec. 14, 2004 22:43 | Updated Dec. 15, 2004 19:49 Saturday's slippery slope By WENDY BLUMFIELD As the controversy resurfaces about Shabbat shopping, opinions are divided. Do Israelis have the right to spend their one day of leisure as they wish? It is not simply a divide between Orthodox and secular. While the Orthodox do not want their neighborhoods disturbed by commercial traffic on Shabbat – as will happen if the status quo changes in Haifa and the Grand Canyon mall stays open seven days a week – not all secular people want to see Shabbat degenerate into yet another...

What could be more entertaining than Al Sharpton winning the Democratic nomination for president? Probably won't happen but, it's fun watching Democrats squirm at the prospect. (www.republicansforsharpton.com) All Republicans should be working to help Big Al receive as much media attention as possible. I hope he does well on SNL tonight...talk about leading the Democratic Party into oblivion. Run Al, Run! - Metro

It's not easy being a humorist. Some days you wade knee-deep in a flood of ideas, quips and witty repartees. The only problem you have then is deciding which of your comic gems to use and which to save for the drought that you know is coming. And the droughts always come. That's most days. I know I've written some really funny pieces. And I also know that I've written some real clunkers. The way I know that I'm really hitting my comic stride is when I laugh out loud as the words pour from my keyboard (Alas, it's been...
