From: John O’Neill Houston, Texas Dear Friend, Last year, when my fellow Swift Boat veterans and I spoke out about John Kerry, you rallied to our side. We will never forget your faith in our cause and your belief in our honesty. It made all the difference. Together we made history. Like most of you, I believed our mission was over. We could all move on with our lives, return to our families and homes secure in the knowledge we had done the right thing for America, and for our children’s future. Regrettably, that has not been the case for...

The Oregon State Bar has cleared Clackamas County prosecutor Alfred French of ethics violations when he lied years ago to his former boss about an interoffice affair and when he participated in a presidential campaign ad last year that said Democratic Sen. John Kerry lied about his Vietnam War record. The bar's nine-member Professional Responsibility Board on Saturday put to rest its investigation, dismissing more than 60 complaints that French's actions involved dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation. The state bar is the regulating organization that licenses and disciplines attorneys in Oregon. The ruling means that the 59-year-old father of three...

One of the most dramatic stories of Election 2004 was the coalescence of a large group of Vietnam veterans dedicated to the idea that John Kerry was not fit to become America's Commander in Chief. Many of those who joined Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had served with Kerry in Vietnam. And his behavior there--and, even more, upon his return--convinced them that Kerry could not be trusted to lead our nation in wartime. To their great surprise, the testimony of the Swift Boat veterans was simply ignored by a hostile media establishment. The veterans were tenacious, however, and eventually captured...

The lobbying group, USA Next, which has poured millions of dollars into Republican policy battles, now says it plans to spend as much as $10 million on commercials and other tactics assailing AARP, the powerhouse lobby opposing the private investment accounts at the center of Mr. Bush's plan. COLLEGE STATION - An advertisement that questioned John Kerry's Vietnam War military service would capture a nation's attention during the 2004 presidential election, but the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks had a greater impact during the race, the manager for the Kerry-Edwards campaign said Wednesday. "This was an election, from my point of view, that was completely overshadowed by 9/11," Mary Beth Cahill said at an election postmortem session at the George H.W. Failed presidential candidate John Kerry is considering filing a libel suit against the leader of the group Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, John O'Neill, whose book "Unfit for Command" is credited with capsizing Kerry's Vietnam-based campaign. "I don't know if they will actually go forward," a member of Kerry's inner circle told New York Post's PAGE SIX, edited by Richard Johnson. "But consideration is serious. If Kerry plans on running again in 2008 — and I'm hearing he will — it would make sense that he'd file the suit."

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 - The McCain-Feingold law, which did more to change how American political campaigns are financed than any legislation since the 1970's, got its first real-world test in this year's election. And now its critics are more emphatic than ever in arguing that the law has fallen short of its goals, and even some supporters are calling for revisions. The 2002 law demolished the system that for more than a decade had allowed political parties to feed on unlimited soft-money contributions from companies, labor unions and donors. But what rose in its place remains the subject of fierce...

President Bush may be celebrating victory today, but he owes it to a group he never acknowledged during the campaign. I'm talking about the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth. They are responsible for keeping Bush in the White House – or, more precisely, keeping John Kerry from snatching it from him. There is not a doubt in my mind this was the difference in the race. MANCHESTER—Members of the Swift Boat Veterans and POWs for Truth came to New Hampshire yesterday, bringing their attack on Sen. John Kerry for his post-Vietnam War activities. The veterans said they feel the anti-war statements Kerry made as a leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War bother them more than any questions that their group has raised about his war medals. They say his work helped the enemy and caused prisoners of war greater distress, prolonging their captivity when he alleged that U.S. servicemen committed atrocities against Vietnamese civilians. Democrats dispute the claims, saying Kerry at the time spoke for...

The group, a 527 organization representing more than 250 Swift Boat veterans who served in Vietnam with Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry along with a number of the American POW's held captive by the North Vietnamese, said it had purchased $3.2 million in TV time in Florida and $1.5 million in Ohio for ads that will run beginning Friday. The first of the ads...

The Swift Boat Controversy: New Witnesses October 14, 2004 John Kerry's service in Vietnam has become a campaign issue. The group calling itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth alleges that Kerry has distorted the truth about what happened during the war and questions whether he deserved the medals he received. Tonight, you'll hear from eyewitnesses who have not spoken before: the Vietnamese who fought against him. We've had the debates and the race is a virtual dead-heat. This is the part of a campaign when there are daily fires--issues that rise, flare, and then go away, only to be replaced...

Midnight in South Vietnam, and the river is black. Past the rice paddies and shacks, small fires are burning by the shoreline as Lt. John H. Davis' 50-foot aluminum swift boat — PCF 19 — makes its routine patrol through the reeds. In a split second, rocket fire shatters the silence, and through a plume of oily smoke, the boat sinks to the river's bottom. "My whole crew lost their lives that night. I was the only one who survived," Lt. Davis says.

The Washington Times has a lot of the details. What the Times gets wrong, however, is the tone of the Swifties. To be sure, the Swift Vets are angry - and they have a right to be, not only because of John Kerry's action during and since the Vietnam war, but also because of the media's complete and utter smear job against them personally. What the Times missed, however, is the genuine reluctance of these men. They would all rather be doing something else, spending time with their families or enjoying their retirement. I had the great honor to meet...

I can't say a lot...but I wonder. Mr. Kerry, do you have some rowdy friends? Better yet, are you ready for some commercials? Update [2004-10-10 6:43:55 by krempasky]: A request for help. I'm working on a story about the swifties - and I have a lot of the pieces in place. Here's what I need - 1) quotes (and links) of the worst things said by the Kerry campaign, surrogates, or columnists about the Swifties (either individually or collectively) and 2) as many actual bios of individual Swift Boat Vets (with links). You can email them to me at...

The last time I posted, I mentioned the rumor of the Flag Burning video. I have heard that rumor is NOT dead, despite what many in here have said. I can not confirm it's true either, but "keep the faith." However, a source close to the heart of the matter says, that is not the next shot across the bow. It does say however, the next shot is "very powerful." Look for it soon.
