James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of our Fathers, 88th ed., pp. 89. "But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify." Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed., p. 174. "Question:  Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept? "Answer:  Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her-she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the...

Adventist Health System, which owns Florida Hospital, acknowledged in financial documents that its pay arrangements with some doctors broke federal law. The nonprofit health system, which owns seven hospitals in Central Florida and 44 nationwide, told the U.S. Department of Justice that it violated the federal Stark Law, which prohibits doctors and hospitals to have agreements that allow doctors to gain financially from referring patients to the hospital for tests or procedures. ... Settlement talks for the second part of the case, which alleges the hospital engaged in a pattern of unnecessary hospital admissions for more than a decade, will...

The passport photo of a chubby baby with a sweep of brown hair was Dan Wilson’s only link to a daughter abducted by her mother and kept in hiding until the girl turned 18. Wilson, of Coralville, worried his daughter, Ashlyn, would get sick or injured and, because her mother was a fugitive, she wouldn’t seek medical help. He also feared the girl’s mother’s family would get tired of hiding them. “Would we find them in a shallow ditch somewhere because they were too much of an embarrassment to their family?” Wilson said. “It turned me inside out to think...

Why did Angus T. Jones turn to God? Yahoo! TV By Sarah D. Bunting | Yahoo! TV – 9 hours ago Following a recent high-profile rant by "Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones that called the show "filth" and told viewers not to watch it, it's unclear what's next for the 19-year-old -- or for the show itself. Jones, who plays Jake Harper on the sitcom, also said he "doesn't want to be on" it anymore. But it seems neither the young actor nor his reps has contacted anyone on the production about quitting the show formally,...

I am getting ready to start a series in my Sunday school class on the Feasts of the Lord, as described in the 23rd chapter of Leviticus. We are Southern Baptists, but there are 3 Seven Day Adventists who attend my class. I know what's coming: we are going to get tangled up with discussing whether or not Christians must follow Old Testament Law. I know the SDAs worship on Saturdays, and at least these 3 people claim to eat kosher (although it seems that to them it just means avoiding pork). I would appreciate any suggestions as to how...

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against a Florida Jewish nursing home for firing a Seventh-day Adventist staffer who did not want to work on her Sabbath. Menorah House in Boca Raton "denied a religious accommodation to Philomene Augustin and fired her because of her religious beliefs," the EEOC said in a statement Tuesday. The firing violated religious protections in the federal Civil Rights Act that require "reasonable accommodation" of religious beliefs, "so long as this does not pose an undue hardship," the EEOC said. According to the EEOC, Augustin worked at Menorah House as a certified...

  • (SDA Caucus) What do Adventists Believe

To start of the caucus threads I thought I would do one addressing what Adventists believe since other threads had talked about it and debated it. This thread I believe will stay in caucus rules as it in no way will contrast SDA views with other religions but only state our views. If some one wants to debate a view then they can start an open thread on that one view and see who is interested in the debate.

Hi all since there are several caucus for our LDS and RC brothers and sisters I thought it was about time to make one for Adventists. I know there are a lot of us who use the forum. And I have also noticed there are is a lot of misinformation about our beliefs. So I will try and post things with an eye to both groups while staying in the caucus rules.

Just three days after a Baptist home service was raided in Abadan, across the country in Turkmenabad (formerly Charjou) police raided an Adventist home on 7 August. The family's children and guests were watching a video of Finding Nemo, but police confiscated all the literature they could find, confiscated the owners' identity documents and pressured the husband to sign a statement that an "illegal" religious service was underway. The Adventist pastor in the capital Ashgabad has complained that his congregation cannot hold public worship as it cannot rent premises for worship, despite having state registration. Safarig, a Global Mission Center designed for training pioneers, in the Darfur region of Sudan, was recently attacked and leveled to the ground by Janjweed militias. Homes were burned, and an Adventist Church was destroyed. "Everybody fled for his life," says Daniel Marach, a church leader in the region who moved with 46 church members and many others to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Abujabra. The journey was especially difficult for women, children and the elderly, according to Marach. "Thank God we have arrived safely to our new home. No one was hurt," he says. William Oliver, a...
