Christ’s Second Coming (1) Doug Focht, Jr.On the freeway, hundreds of cars are going in all directions without drivers; in the middle of a football game—zap!—suddenly, the quarterback disappears; the UN is in turmoil; millions of people have vanished from the earth with no trace, no warning!1 Thus Hal Lindsay, in his book, The Late, Great Planet Earth, describes an event called the rapture in which millions of people will be taken from earth and transported to heaven. Maybe you've heard talk of this and wonder what it's all about.Although there are some variations within the premillenial theology of Christ's...

What I believe about the end of the age. This is a hard topic for me. I have had difficulty with this. I have been taught a lot of things concerning the return of Christ. I have heard it all pre-tribulation, post tribulation, mid-tribulation and the preterus point of view. Only one of these can be true. There are teachings out there that say there is no rapture, just because the word rapture doesn’t appear in the bible. The fact of the matter is rapture is a Greek word for caught up. Funny how churches that will say this word...

ONE OF LIBERALS' chief motivations these days is fear of the religious right. Ask people on the left to explain their loathing of President Bush or the Republican party, and the answer often comes around to Jerry Falwell, evangelicals, theocracy, and so on. The left's fear of conservative Christians is fed by a steady stream of news stories. Some are accurate: religious conservatives oppose gay marriage. Some are fanciful: Sponge Bob Square Pants has been accused of being a homosexual. And some are simply false. The left's most recent salvo against the religious right was launched by an obscure online...

Upon a little research I find that last December 26th there was a horrific earthquake in Bam, Iran where upwards of 30-50K people died. Fast forward to a year later, December 26, 2004. The death toll is still rising. What makes on go hmmmm, is that both events happened right after Christmas and both events happend in areas where CHristianity is not prevelant. Does this mean anything? Who knows.

A VERICHIP is a tiny, implantable microchip with a unique identification number that connects a patient to his medical records. When America's Food and Drug Administration recently approved it for medical use in humans, the news provoked familiar worries in the press about privacy-threatening technologies. But on the notice boards of raptureready.com, the talk was about a drawback that the FDA and the media seemed to have overlooked. Was the VeriChip the “mark of the beast”? Raptureready.com runs an online service for the millions of born-again Christians in America who believe that an event called the Rapture is coming soon....

The three wise men who came to worship the Christ child hailed from India and named him Isa, or "Lord" in Sanskrit - a name that became Jesus in the Bible. Later, Jesus travelled to India, where he practiced yoga meditation with the great sages some time during his "lost years" from age 13 to 30, a time of his life scarcely mentioned in the Bible. As Christians immerse themselves in the Advent season to prepare for Christmas, such assertions might sound like blasphemy or pure fantasy. But they come from a renowned Indian guru, the late Paramahansa Yogananda, in...

Most biblical scholars agree that the Second Coming of Jesus is just around the corner, with the Son of God likely to return to Earth as early as December. And a new book by a top Bible expert tells how to conduct themselves in His presence. "If you are lucky enough to meet Jesus in person, you want to make the best impression possible," declares the Rev. Keith Pithe, author of of the exciting new book A Godly Manner. Here are some of the common Second Coming etiquette, followed by the Rev. Pithe's answers: How do I address Jesus? Master,...

If America's secular liberals think they have it rough now, just wait till the Second Coming. The "Left Behind" series, the best-selling novels for adults in the U.S., enthusiastically depict Jesus returning to slaughter everyone who is not a born-again Christian. The world's Hindus, Muslims, Jews and agnostics, along with many Catholics and Unitarians, are heaved into everlasting fire: "Jesus merely raised one hand a few inches and . . . they tumbled in, howling and screeching." Advertisement Gosh, what an uplifting scene! If Saudi Arabians wrote an Islamic version of this series, we would furiously demand that sensible Muslims...

The Second Coming Of Jesus Christ Faith in the eventual second coming of Jesus is a fundamental tenant of Christianity. Around it, our lives are built. Wrapped up in it are all of our hopes and dreams. Interest in that momentous day is always high; but presently it is once again rising to fever pitch. As the year 2000 draws near, so does the air of expectancy among those who see prophetic significance in that date; even the curiosity of casual observers is whetted. Bible students have always wanted to know what the Bible says about the end of the...

Pop superstar Madonna's Re-Invention tour has been slammed by American critics - for overloading the show with "naive" political statements. The "American Life" singer, 45, kicked off the US leg of her tour in California on Monday but failed to impress critics with her attempts to "wipe the slate clean" by ditching her trademark raunchy routines. The Los Angeles Times sniped, "This promised to be Madonna's tour de force, a reappraisal that put her work in new and revealing contexts. But time and again she fell short of the challenge." Many critics were unimpressed by the images of the Iraq...

Why Is It Wrong for Christians to Predict When Christ Will Return to Earth? by Dr. John Ankerberg, Dr. John Weldon Biblical prophecy and eschatology are both fascinating and spiritually encouraging subjects, as any Christian who has studied them will testify. They are also difficult subjects to deal with responsibly because not all prophecy is equally clear. But if the Bible is clear on anything, it is that no one knows the specific time of Christ's return. Jesus Himself stated, "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority" (Acts...

The 12th Coming of Less-Than-Glorious FictionThe latest Left Behind book. By Carl E. Olson After nine years, twelve volumes, forty million total copies, two movies, and an endless flood of apocalyptic merchandise, readers of the "Left Behind" series have reached the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately for them, episode #12, titled Glorious Appearing, is underwhelming and pedestrian, poor qualities for a novel about a Big Event. Fans of Glorious Appearing: The End of Days, which hit stores on March 30, may be inclined to label my criticisms as the rude sniping of a former Rapture-believing Fundamentalist-turned-Papist. Bill Maher: Mel Gibson and Tom DeLay Are Anti-Semites Controversial TV talker Bill Maher attacked religious conservatives in an early morning interview on Wednesday, claiming that movie star Mel Gibson and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay were "anti-Semitic." "I do think Mel Gibson is anti-Semitic," Maher told radio host Don Imus. "So, by the way, is Tom DeLay. So, by the way, are all these Christian right people who pretend to be friends of Israel." Then Maher accused Christian fundamentalists of befriending Israel only because, ultimately, they'd like to see Jews die: "You know, this is the sickest thing. They...

Email This ArticleResurrection of the Dead   FR. WILLIAM SAUNDERS Question: At Easter, we celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead. In the creed, we believe in the "resurrection of the dead." Could you better explain these beliefs? In the Gospels, Jesus had predicted three times that He would be arrested by the chief priests and scribes, suffer, be condemned to death, and be crucified; however, He also predicted that He would be "raised up" on the "third day" (cf. Mt 16:21, 17:22-23, 20:17-19). The predictions came true. On Easter Sunday morning, when Mary Magdalene and other women, St. Peter...

Many have said I will come in a cloud, and others have said that I am already here on the Earth plane, and have been for many years. None of the above is true. BEHOLD, THE BRIDEGROOM COMES! THE COMFORTING PROMISE It was a night of destiny, Jesus had gathered with His disciples in the Upper Room. In a few more hours He would be crucified on a cross. Jesus had been warning His disciples concerning His coming death, resurrection and ascension to heaven. The prospect of these events caused the disciples to be greatly disturbed. In order to ease their fears, Jesus made the following comforting promise: "Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so,...
