tennis star Serena Williams thinks France's top 75 percent income tax rate "doesn't seem legal." On the CBS Late Show Thursday, Williams took her criticism further telling host David Letterman that although she loves the city and spends a great deal of her time there, "I don't live in Paris. You know, they have that new tax rule which is like 75" ... So Williams won't live in Paris because of the taxes, but she would have voted for the tax-hiking Barack

Serena Williams has sparked an intense backlash after she suggested the 16-year-old victim in the Steubenville, Ohio, rape case was asking to be assaulted. The world Number 1 tennis star made the astonishing indictment in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, which was posted online on Tuesday. In the article, Williams said the victim 'shouldn't have put herself in that position' and described her as 'lucky.' Some are already labeling the 31-year-old's remarks the most controversial of her career.

She was in the city of kings and queens. People were sipping champagne and eating strawberries and cream. And Serena Williams had just ascended to the throne of tennis, becoming the second woman after Steffi Graf to win all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold in singles. Over the previous 63 minutes on the hallowed grounds of Wimbledon, Williams had absolutely obliterated the Russian superstar Maria Sharapova. She’d death-stared down the blonde, leggy Barbie doll, sending lasers down the line, making Sharapova lunge all over the court, hitting left when Sharapova was running right, and then, with a...

It wasn’t quite Serena’s shove-a-ball-down-you-f*****g-throat “A”-level material, but the former world No. 1 brought the drama to Arthur Ashe Stadium once again in the women’s final of the 2011 US Open during a surprising loss to Australian Samantha Stosur on Sunday.

Throughout the second set she repeatedly argued with the chair umpire in a petulant display that rekindled memories of her exit from the 2009 U.S. Open. “If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way because you’re out of control,” Williams said.

Classy Serena will not be able to play in the U.S. Open, thus making all the line judges safer, unless she threatens to "shove a ball down their f'ing throat" from the stands. I don't understand the nature of her glass cut - how can something that severe happen in a restaurant that it requires foot surgery, for pete's sake? An additional benefit to her absence will be that we don't have to look at her horrendous wardrobe choices. OMG.

The victory is the 12th Grand Slam singles title of Williams’ career, and the American now equals compatriot Billie Jean King in sixth place on the all-time women’s Grand Slam singles title list.

Playing her best at the most important events, Serena Williams re-established herself as the top player in women's tennis in 2009 and was a landslide choice as Female Athlete of the Year by members of The Associated Press. Williams received 66 of 158 votes cast by editors at U.S. newspapers that are members of the AP. No other candidate got more than 18 votes in the tally, which was announced Tuesday. Clearly, Williams' most infamous on-court episode - a tirade directed at a line judge after a foot-fault call near the end of her U.S. Open semifinal loss in September...

It's Maria v Serena in Semis by Bren O'Brien Tuesday, 25 January, 2005 Women's No.4 seed Maria Sharapova will meet No.7 seed Serena Williams in an Australian Open 2005 semi-final after the pair notched contrasting victories over Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amelie Mauresmo, respectively. 2003 champion Williams had a surprisingly easy win over the French No.2 seed, triumphing 6-2 6-2, after Sharapova came from a set down to oust her compatriot and fellow 2004 Grand Slam winner 4-6 6-2 6-2. The 17-year-old Wimbledon champion had to call on all her energy reserves to get past Kuznetsova, who broke her midway...

After 50 years of coaching many of the finest tennis players in the world, I am comfortable saying that the umpire's bad call last week at the Serena Williams/Jennifer Capriati match of the U.S. Open was the worst injustice I have ever witnessed in my half-century career on the courts.... Astonishingly, the umpire, Mariana Alvez of Portugal, overruled the lineswoman's call from her chair about 60 feet diagonally away.... Raising a racket: Ms. Williams was the victim of at least three bad calls in a quarterfinals match at the U.S. Open against Jennifer Capriati. Is instant replay the answer? To...

It is springtime in Paris for Justine Henin-Hardenne after her nerve ultimately held in an epic French Open semi-final that ended with Serena Williams losing her Grand Slam domination and also being loudly booed off court by an outrageously partisan French crowd. Although Williams had not helped herself by questioning or making calls a few times too often and by the peremptory congratulatory handshake she offered Henin-Hardenne at the end of her 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 defeat, one had to feel sympathy for the American, if not over the result, then for their hostile approach to her from the start. Crowd behavior affected Serena By MaliVai Washington Special to PARIS -- All tournament long, Justine Henin-Hardenne has had a lot of crowd support because she's from Belgium, a French speaking country. It's not a surprise that much of the crowd was for Henin-Hardenne today. In addition, I think a lot of people wanted to see someone other than Serena Williams in the final. However, I thought the crowd at times showed very poor taste toward Serena. There were a couple of occasions when the linesperson didn't call the ball out and Serena stopped in the middle of a point...
