The popular podcast "Serial" launched its second season Thursday, shining a spotlight on the mysterious disappearance of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl — and allowing him to be heard publicly for the first time since he was freed by the Taliban in May 2014. Bergdahl's dramatic rescue in eastern Afghanistan came nearly five years after he deserted his post and was captured, military officials said. Getting him back was part of a complex exchange that involved five Taliban prisoners who were being held at Guantanamo Bay — a move that drew sharp criticism from GOP lawmakers.

Suspected serial killer Neal Falls' body count may have matched the number of weapons in his arsenal. Police around the country are working Monday to determine whether Falls -- who was shot and killed by a West Virginia escort as he tried to strangle her -- is linked to the unsolved murders of prostitutes in at least three other states. On July 18, Falls, a 45-year-old drifter, knocked on the door of a Charleston, W.V. prostitute who advertised her services on Backpage.com. When the woman -- identified as "Heather" -- opened the door, Falls asked her only one question: "Live...

An improvised explosive device blew out windows and ignited a small fire at the Jackson County prosecutor's office in Medford, Ore., Wednesday, but authorities said the damage could have been far worse had it ignited a large propane tank at the scene. No injuries were reported as a result of the blast, which occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Local and state police and the FBI and ATF are currently investigating. Law enforcement sources familiar with the case said there was no immediate claim of responsibility and as of yet, there are no suspects, but they are attempting to determine if...

Serial number tag does not match the serial number in bios. I just bought a used Lenovo Thinkpad off eBay. Received it yesterday and I noticed the serial number tag on the bottom was a little torn. No concern to me, at least at first. I also ran the s/n from the tag to see if it had any warranty time left on it. The s/n on the tag shows the warranty expired in 2011. Okay, as wthis as expected. So, I was checking the system out to ensure it was okay, the settings were correct, and I noticed the...

(Reuters) - Authorities in Alaska said on Tuesday they were examining tips from across the United States as they piece together the decade-long travels of a confessed serial killer who committed suicide over the weekend while awaiting trial for the abduction and murder of an Anchorage teenage woman. Officials say Israel Keyes confessed to kidnapping and killing 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who vanished in February from the coffee stand where she worked, a Vermont couple and up to five other people before killing himself. Now a toll-free tip line established by the FBI is bringing in clues about other possible victims...

Israel Keyes was a serial killer who traveled from Alaska to Vermont for the "specific purpose of kidnapping and murdering," and who chose his victims there for no reason other than the layout of their home, Vermont authorities said Monday. Speaking to Vermont media, federal and local authorities gave the first detailed account of the killings of Bill and Lorraine Currier, a couple who disappeared from their Essex, Vt., home in June 2011. Keyes' victims encountered "a force of pure evil acting at random," said Tristram Coffin, the U.S. attorney for Vermont. Prosecutors said Keyes confessed in jail to first...

According to Joe Williams, the senior White House reporter for Politico, Rush Limbaugh is like the "serial murderer" who was caught with "three bodies in the trunk." The veteran journalist made the outrageous comparison on Tuesday's Martin Bashir show, a program that included other liberal smears against the conservative radio host. Before making his offensive connection, Williams highlighted his background covering the police. Regarding Limbaugh's comments about Sandra Fluke, the journalist linked: "... [Law enforcement] always would catch the serial murder because he was driving around with a busted taillight, not because he had, like, three bodies in the trunk."...

Abuelazam, 33, was apprehended Wednesday night at Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport as he was about to board a plane for Israel, officials said. He was tracked to the airport after investigators dashed to track down a new lead that originated in Michigan. GAFFNEY | Authorities have identified a man killed by North Carolina police as the killer they think shot five people to death over six days last week in this mostly rural Cherokee County community. Law enforcement officials identified the suspect Monday night as 41-year-old Patrick Tracy Burris. They said he was a felon with a lengthy record who was paroled in April after serving more than eight years for felony breaking and entering and larceny. Authorities said bullets in the gun found on Burris after he was killed by police early Monday near Gastonia, N.C., matched those used to kill...

The first wave of slayings haunted Los Angeles in the mid-1970s. The killer slipped mostly unseen through the night, preying on older women who lived alone. He raped them and squeezed their necks until they passed out or died. On the 17 who were killed, he placed pillows or blankets over their faces. The second wave hit a decade later in Claremont -- five older women raped and strangled, faces again covered. Even with at least 20 survivors, police never connected the two homicide-and-rape rampages nor solved either of them. The victims gave conflicting descriptions of the rapist, police in...

WASHINGTON - The nation's top climate scientists are giving "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's documentary on global warming, five stars for accuracy. The former vice president's movie replete with the prospect of a flooded New York City, an inundated Florida, more and nastier hurricanes, worsening droughts, retreating glaciers and disappearing ice sheets mostly got the science right, said all 19 climate scientists who had seen the movie or read the book and answered questions from The Associated Press.
