  • How James Patterson's novel 'Zoo' became a series on CBS

    Los Angeles Times ^ | May 29, 2015 | T.L. Stanley
No need to head to the multiplex for big action, special effects and hair-raising thrills, says bestselling author James Patterson, when the CBS adaptation of his novel, "Zoo," promises all that — and rampaging wildlife, to boot. "It should give the summer movies a run for their money," said Patterson, a populist literary star perhaps best known for his Alex Cross franchise, less so for being understated. "There's horror, sci-fi, suspense. It's kind of James Patterson meets Stephen King meets Michael Crichton. It's a scary fable."

What if the Allies had lost World War II, the Nazis had been first to develop the atomic bomb, and the Germans and Japanese had carved up control of United States? That's the premise of the new streaming series from Amazon, The Man in the High Castle — an adaptation of the 1962 book by the same name. And the show is fantastic.N

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- By the time Madison Bumgarner took the mound to throw his first pitch, the San Francisco Giants already held a three-run lead. It might as well have been 100 with the way MadBum and this orange-and-black bunch play in the World Series. Bumgarner carried a shutout into the seventh inning, Hunter Pence homered early and the Giants showed off their October poise, putting a sudden stop to the Kansas City Royals' perfect postseason roll by romping 7-1 in the Series opener Tuesday night.
  • Giving Mankato cop a double 'wet Willy' lands man in jail

MANKATO, Minn. -- Giving a stranger a wet Willy could get you an annoying look, a profanity riddled verbal response or even a punch in the nose. When that stranger is a police officer on duty, it turns out it's a crime -- one that a Mankato officer thought was more than an extra gross misdemeanor. He responded to the wet pokes to his ears by hauling the perpetrator off to the pokey and requesting a felony charge. Armed with two freshly licked fingers, a former Kiester man home on leave from the Air Force thought it would be funny...

The risk of dying from a gunshot wound is twice as high for African Americans as it is for white Americans, according to a new study based on 11 years’ worth of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Between 2000 and 2010, the rate of firearm-related fatalities in the U.S. was 9.05 per 100,000 people for whites and 18.51 per 100,000 people for blacks. When factoring in the 3.38 deaths per 100,000 people of other races, the country’s overall gun-related death rate was 10.21 per 100,000 Americans, researchers reported Thursday in the journal BMJ Open. That racial...

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Authorities in South Carolina say a man who was not in good humor smacked an ice-cream truck driver with a fudge bar in a dispute over correct change after his daughter bought the frozen confection. The ice cream vendor told Rock Hill, South Carolina, police the man accused her of not giving his daughter correct change after a purchase. That's when the fudge bar was allegedly employed as a weapon. Police officers who responded to the call Wednesday reported they saw a red mark on the driver's arm. The driver gave officers a description of the...

President Shimon Peres on Monday hailed remarks by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on the issue of the “Palestinian refugees”, AFP reported. Peres, who said Abbas’s comments showed his "seriousness about reaching peace", was referring to what Abbas said during a meeting Sunday with more than 300 Israeli university students at his Ramallah headquarters. At the meeting, the PA chief told the students said he did not want to "flood Israel" with so-called “Palestinian refugees” and that there was no need to "re-divide" Jerusalem. "I was happy to hear him," Peres's office quoted him as saying at the start of...

Regarding World Series opening game #1, did anyone notice that the FOX11 TV network COMPLETELY IGNORED the 'fighter jet flyover' as Mary J. Blige sang our National Anthem? I could HEAR THE JETS but no attempt was made by FoxTV to show them as they roared overhead! Was this a slap in the face to our troops, or what? This really P*SSED ME OFF!!!

There have been many lawsuits challenging Barack Obama’s eligibility to be President—most based on the fact that Obama is not a natural born citizen, his father being a Kenyan. Other lawsuits challenge the validity of Obama’s PDF long-form birth certificate, riddled with strange anomalies like multiple layers and eight different fonts. The lawsuits have all crashed and burned in flames for two reasons: 1. The court hearing the lawsuits have treated the cases as a joke instead of a valid question of Constitutional requirements. And 2. The plaintiffs haven’t had Reed Hayes on their side. Reed Hayes is a forensic...
