Fair-minded conservatives were aghast in President George W. Bush's second term when the left-wing character assassination machine went into high gear to destroy Jeff Gannon. Gannon, also known as James Dale Guckert, asked questions that annoyed liberals because they were based on a right-wing political perspective. Liberals were outraged. How dare the White House allow a conservative in who didn't constantly bash President Bush. The nerve! Partisan, ideologically-driven people shouldn't be allowed into White House press briefings, they howled in unison. [...] Now comes the revelation that at least one partisan ideologically-driven leftist is being welcomed to White House media...

Terror suspects who have been held but released from Guantanamo Bay are increasingly returning to the fight against the United States and its allies, the Pentagon said Tuesday. Sixty-one detainees released from the U.S. Navy base prison in Cuba are believed to have rejoined the fight, said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell, citing data from December. That's up from 37 as of March 2008, Morrell said. The new figures come as President-elect Barack Obama prepares to issue an executive order during his first week in office to close the controversial prison. It's unlikely, however, that the Guantanamo detention facility will be...

A 20-year-old student in Shanghai, China, was electrocuted Monday when he opened his computer's external case while the machine was still on, the Shanghai Daily reported. The man, identified only by the common family name of Wu, had apparently opened his PC's case to prevent its central processing chip from overheating — because he didn't want to turn his air conditioning on. His sweaty legs came into contact with the computer's internal wiring, likely causing a short circuit. According to the newspaper, which drew from a report in the Chinese-language Eastday.com, police and medical respondents found blood in the dead...

Severely overweight children should be taken from their parents and put into care, doctors said yesterday as it emerged that obesity had been a factor in at least 20 child protection cases in the past year. In the most extreme cases, where parents refuse to improve diets, social services should intervene to protect children's long-term health, doctors said. A motion to be debated at the British Medical Association's annual conference this month will call for overfeeding to be considered a form of parental neglect or abuse. Social services threatened to take Connor McCreaddie, 8, away from his mother A BBC...

Former “Nightline” anchor Ted Koppel was one of Tim Russert’s guests on Sunday’s “Meet the Press.” As amazing as it might seem, he made some truly shocking and compelling statements about the Iraq war and the war on terror that virtually no Democrat or media member is willing to accept or report: First, Koppel made it clear that America’s premature departure from Iraq would turn the entire Persian Gulf region into a battlefield between Sunnis and Shia, “something the United States cannot allow to happen” Second, he said the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are part of the war on terror...

Police: Man Zaps Grandma-In-Law With TaserPOSTED: 2:45 pm EST January 27, 2007 NORTH BONNEVILLE, Wash. -- A Washington man has been released from jail, but he doesn't have his stun gun anymore. Aaron de Bruyn's Taser was confiscated after police arrested him for allegedly using it on his 79-year-old grandmother-in-law. De Bruyn admitted that he shocked her on her shoulder but said he did it because she refused to leave his house. The two had gotten into an argument after she accused him of child abuse for swatting his baby son on his diapered bottom. He said he did that...

A North Attleboro man faces financial ruin because he built a new home so close to dangerous high-voltage transmission lines that fluorescent bulbs inside the house light up without even being plugged in. The electric currents running through the two-story home are considered so potentially harmful that the town’s fire department has strung “caution” tape around the house while an electrical inspector has refused to issue a final permit out of fear someone might get electrocuted. The home’s metallic door knobs and exterior shingles give off mild electric jolts when touched, while flowing currents are strong enough to light up...

Last time, I introduced you to Will Hooper, a 26-year-old graduate of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, who has been suffering from an extreme case of obsessive-compulsive disorder since age 10. In October 2003, when Will was 24, he and his father, James, heard of an experimental new surgery called deep-brain stimulation. One of its pioneers is Douglas Anderson, a doctor at Loyola University Health Systems in suburban Maywood, a drive north from Tinley Park. In the procedure, Dr. Anderson drills two tiny holes in the forehead, plants two electrodes in the frontal region of the brain, and then...

Geraldo Rivera in the Knesset? Oy vey. Rivera says he was ready to relocate to Israel a few years ago and run for a seat in the Knesset in order to advance his strong views on the Palestinian situation. Born in Brooklyn to a Jewish mother, Lilly Friedman, and a Catholic, Puerto Rican father, Cruz Rivera, Rivera was raised "mostly Jewish" and was a bar mitzvah, he says. Israel's occupation of the West Bank "is bull," in Rivera's view, and it "dehumanizes" the Palestinians. "I want peace between Jews and Palestinians, based on equality between the countries." Rivera says he...

HOMESTEAD, Pa. - The new 50 Cent movie "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" has been pulled from a theater where a man was fatally shot even though officials said Thursday they do not know whether the film was a factor in the slaying. Loews Corp. decided to stop showing the rapper's bullet-ridden bio while the investigation is going on, said John McCauley, the company's vice president of marketing. "We're unclear whether there is a direct connection," McCauley said. He said the company is doing all it can to make sure patrons are safe at the 22-screen multiplex in a popular...

SRINAGAR, India, July 16 (Reuters) - Indian forces said they killed 15 Muslim militants who were trying to cross into its part of Kashmir from Pakistan on Saturday, the latest of a series of clashes on the disputed frontier in less than a week. India says growing incursions by militants from across the border to join the revolt against its rule in Kashmir could undermine a 20-month-old peace process with Pakistan. Islamabad denies any involvement in the armed rebellion. Soldiers shot dead nine militants who were trying to breach the military control line dividing Kashmir in the Sumawal area, near...

Franco Aleman, of Barcepundit.com, provides us shocking suggestive evidence that the massive fire which destroyed a thirty-two story skyscraper in Madrid may have been the result of foul play. A videotaper caught what appears to be people with flashlights on lower floors of the building as the fire burned above. While far from conclusive evidence, this would be consistent with arsonists doing their work. The building housed the biggest accounting firm in Spain and a prestigeous law firm, so it might be a target for anti-capitalist thugs.

New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) has long been rumored as desperately seeking the democratic nomination for president in 2008. And while many political observers fully expect the power hungry former First Lady to hit the campaign trail within only a few months of being re-elected as a US Senator in 2006, US News & World report claims to have a confirmation of sorts. From USNews.Com's Washington Whispers: Hillary's in… You don't have to take it from us about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton 's desire to run for president. Minnesota's reputation for bitter winters earns bragging rights today when temperatures start to fall into a subzero cellar for a long, frigid weekend. The National Weather Service predicts a daytime high temperature in the Twin Cities of 9 degrees, though blustery winds will create wind chills in the region of 16 to 20 below zero. Then it will get colder. A metro temperature of 14 below is predicted for tonight, and readings should remain below zero until Monday. The predicted highs are 4 below on Friday, 7 below on Saturday and 6 below on Sunday. The last time the Twin...

When Pierre Rehov saw images of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy being shot, it altered the course of his life. The film producer was stunned to learn Israel had been accused of targeting young Mohammed al-Dura, whose gripping death in the arms of his father was an image broadcast around the world. Indeed, the graphic images of the boy dying in his father Jamal's arms, supposedly murdered by Israeli soldiers, became the icon of the newly launched intifada and fueled the ambitions of a thousand young, would-be suicide bombers. "I was in shock," Rehov said in a recent magazine interview. "In...

Underground Wiring Shocking People, Dogs Thu Mar 11, 4:35 PM ET By HELENA PAYNE, Associated Press Writer When a New Yorker walking her dogs was electrocuted in January by faulty wiring under the pavement, it seemed like the freakiest of accidents — until several pets in other big cities were killed or shocked in the weeks that followed. Now utilities are rushing to fix the problems — blamed largely on work crews tearing up the streets — and to reassure the public. Dog owners, meanwhile, are buying booties for their pets to insulate their paws. "People are getting current up...

A 59-year-old Florida man died Sunday afternoon after he was struck in the head by lightning while riding his Harley low-rider in Park County, authorities said. "Twelve million acres in the U.S., an area the size of Switzerland, is controlled by the The Nature Conservancy" The most shocking exposé in America today is in a new publication from RANGE magazine. In "Nature's Landlord," investigative reporter Tim Findley explores "the world's most powerful environmental group, The Nature Conservancy." Findley calls TNC "the monster we made from indifference" and shows how it has carefully and methodically achieved global power on a scale few could imagine. He traces the history of the TNC from its modest origins to its current status as a behemoth with nearly $3 billion (tax-exempt)...

When ART Becomes InhumanKarl ZinsmeisterReprinted from the ART Renewal Center Origionally published in TAEmag. Many of today’s avant-garde artists, I’ve decided, have modeled themselves on that well-known societal fixture, the snot-nosed teenager. Since the 1960s, the hippest modern art has aspired to exactly what every garden-variety 13-year-old brat aims for: maximum opportunities to shock, flout, insult, and otherwise chuck rocks at polite society. And so “artists” spread American flags on the floor and invited gallery and museum patrons to walk on them. “Sculptors” stacked bricks in low heaps and convinced collectors to pay bags of money for something they...

You should have known me 30 years ago. My hair was down to my shoulders. One day, some friends and I smoked a little pot and went out to jeer then-President Richard Nixon. I didn't make Woodstock, but I did go to some other rock concerts that I can't remember. Admittedly, I'm not a hippie anymore, but I did vote for Mel Carnahan even after he died. I mention these things just so you know I have some credentials.
