BLURRY snaps could be a thing of the past with the development of a digital camera that refocuses photos after they have been taken. The camera could be useful for action shots taken by sports photographers or for CCTV surveillance cameras, which often produce fuzzy shots due to poor lighting. If the light rays reaching the sensor are not in focus, the image will appear blurry. Now, Pat Hanrahan and his team at Stanford University have figured out how...

DAMASCUS, Syria - Syria has complained that U.S. and Iraqi troops have mistakenly fired on its border guards even as they've tried to stop militants from infiltrating into Iraq. The guards have been fired on "not only by infiltrators, but by U.S. and Iraqi forces," the government said the letter distributed to diplomatic mission chiefs in Damascus and seen Friday by The Associated Press. The letter also said that it needs more U.S. help with the financing of night vision equipment to block the militants from crossing from Syria to Iraq. It cited "about 100 armed clashes, some of which...

TALLAHASSEE - More than a decade has passed since Sen. Jim King woke up to find a man pointing a gun at his head. It's been 15 years since Sen. Evelyn Lynn woke up - twice - to find intruders in her home. But both remember the events as if they were yesterday, prompting both to vote Wednesday for a bill expanding the rights of Floridians to use deadly force when threatened in their homes and cars. The bill (SB436) passed the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice unanimously. It must pass one more committee before heading to the full Senate....

  • Banning Guns Isn't Enough for the Brits

It appears the Brits have climbed the Cliffs of Insanity and taken a collective nosedive into the River of Outright Absurdity. My friend, author Michael Z. Williamson, and I used to laugh about Britain, their unreasonable ban on armed self defense and their hysterical attempts to further correct the problems caused by said ban by implementing yet more stringent and bizarre restraints on people's rights. Mike was born in the UK. I used to kid him about the future of Great Britain. I used to tell him that soon, sharp implements will be banned, and people will be forced to...

The Old Media does not understand why it cannot reach it's "audience" - they are continuously amazed at their falling numbers, and they do not understand why they are losing credibility and followers at an alarming rate. But in the story of Kevin Sites, the reporter who filmed - and condemned - a Marine shooting an insurgent in a Mosque, we find the answers illustrated vividly. It is a cautionary tale of writers and reporters whose only "audience" is themselves... In Kevin Sites' Blog, we find accounts of war, stories of Marines at rest, and the subtle undercurrent of identification...

Ok all, I've got a computer problem on a new to me Laptop, a Compaq Armada M700, PII 366. It was working fine yesterday when I attempted to install Windows XP, unfortunately I only got 1/2 through it before the CD drive found a terminal scratch on my CD. The computer kept trying to go back to the CD install but could not get past the scratched CD. I opened the CD drive, removed the CD and attempted to shut the PC down. It kept asking for the XP disk and would not power down with the on/off button. I...
