WEST PALM BEACH— Police are investigating three shooting deaths, two of which occurred at the same apartment complex within 12 hours of each other. Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a 25-year-old man was found, shot in the face, at 1017 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. Police identified him as Edward Burkes, who was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died. Police are treating Burkes' death as a homicide. At approximately 3 p.m., another man was shot and killed at the same two-story building — an empty lot away from Hook Fish & Chicken, which sits at the corner of Palm Beach...

... At about 2 a.m., two officers who were on special duty patrolling the downtown area heard multiple gunshots. They walked to the area near Barnes and Hillman streets, where they saw people shooting, Collins said. “They observed muzzle flashes indicating shots were being fired at them. One officer said he could hear the sound of bullets going by,” Collins said. The officers saw one man, who was armed with a gun, hide behind a mini-van. Shortly afterward, a car with three black men in it drove by the mini-van, and at one of the officers. That officer could not...

An alleged Department of Homeland Security memo saying that Arizona shooter Jared Loughner was influenced by American Renaissance (AR), a controversial conservative publication, does not exist and there is no evidence of such a tie. A Fox News report by Jennifer Griffin on the memo about AR suggested official inside information at the highest levels of the Obama Administration that Loughner was motivated to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords because she was Jewish and because of the immigration controversy in Arizona. While many liberal commentators recklessly tried to link the shootings to Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, or other conservatives, the...

A spate of shooting attacks on law enforcement officers has authorities concerned about a war on cops. In just 24 hours, at least 11 officers were shot. The shootings included Sunday attacks at traffic stops in Indiana and Oregon, a Detroit police station shooting that wounded four officers, a shootout at a Port Orchard, Wash., Wal-Mart that injured two deputies. On Monday morning, two officers were shot dead and a U.S. Marshal was wounded by a gunman in St. Petersburg, Fla. On Thursday, two Miami-Dade, Fla., detectives were killed by a murder suspect they were trying to arrest. "It's not...

Long past the time when it was debunked that Tucson shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner might have been motivated by talk radio or TV, NPR was still entertaining the "vitriol" attack line, as anchor Scott Simon interviewed liberal St. Petersburg Times TV critic Eric Deggans on Saturday morning's Weekend Edition. Simon even bizarrely claimed that this kind of violence didn't happen when "63 million people watched Walter Cronkite every night."

We have also been told that Jared Loughner fled with that bag into the desert, and that his father, Randy Loughner, was concerned enough about this circumstance that he pursued his son. He failed to catch up with him. Now, it is reported that a black bag has been found in the vicinity of where the Loughners live, filled with 9mm ammunition -- the same kind used in the massacre in Tucson later that day. So here is the question: Why did Sarah Palin allow Jared Loughner to run away with ammunition without then notifying the authorities? Didn't Sarah Palin...
  • Loughner a "textbook" case paranoid schizophrenic

It wasn't long after news of the Tucson, Ariz., tragedy broke that the words "paranoid schizophrenic" entered the conversation. Armchair psychiatrists across the country looked at Jared Loughner -- 22, history of antisocial behavior, with a cache of rambling YouTube videos on government mind control -- and diagnosed him. But is there any truth to this? And if so, how does it help make sense of his horrific actions? To try and untangle the influences that might lead one lone gunman to fire his Glock at a political rally, we turned to Dr. E. Fuller Torrey, respected psychiatrist and one...

Deflect, divert, attack opponents... typical cornered, incompetent lib Meanwhile back in reality, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik allowed myriad opportunities to prevent a gruesome bloodbath slip right through his hands... and he knows it Yesterday the Pima County Sheriff that's been attempting to tack the Tuscon massacre on the American Right in general -and Rush Limbaugh in particular- got a call of congratulations from the President himself... isn't that special. Thinking persons can be excused for asking "what the hell for"- other than Dupnik's failure to prevent a blood-curdling tragedy right under his nose... must be the diversionary Alinskyite attacks upon American talk radio that Obama finds...
  • The hypocrisy of the Left in the face of tragedy

The absolute hatred that spewed forth from the Left for eight long years during the Bush administration can’t even be touched by anything the Right has come forth with in the last two. The Left is awash with hypocrisy if they attempt to lecture conservatives on “toning down the rhetoric.” Such silliness would be sad if it wasn’t so devious and underhanded. Liberals threw out polite political discourse many years ago so I guess we were just all stunned to hear them suddenly clamoring for such a thing this morning. What a shock that they suddenly had a Paul-on-the-road-to-Damascus moment....

I’ll be very honest. Conservatives have a low regard for liberals because of the types of comments as we have seen over the last 24 hours in regards to the tragedy in Arizona. This was a tragedy totally outside the realm of cheap political potshots. When the gutter-licking Left tries to turn tragedies like this into some sort of anti-Palin, anti-Fox News, anti-Limbaugh and Beck, or anti-Tea Party (or whatever) political statement we should all be extremely disgusted at such pathetic attempts to smear an opponent with the blood of real people and real victims. And frankly, shame on all...

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) - The ABC Commission has revoked the alcohol permits for the Touch nightclub on Patterson Street after officials said club employees tried to cover up a shooting. Greensboro Police and ALE officials requested the revocation after they said in sworn affidavits to the ABC that club personnel hid two people who were shot at the club Oct. 16. Club personnel also tried to prevent officers from entering the premises and denied that shots were fired inside the club that night, ABC officials said. There have been numerous police calls for shootings, stabbings and other disturbances since the...

Comments on articles about these horse shootings have been pro and con against the Twiss family. While no one thinks shooting horses is an answer, some have expressed their dislike of the Twiss family and their horse stable. Concerns of manure disposal and diseases were brought up. And yes, zoning issues too. The $5,000 reward for the horse shootings may bring some needed information to light. Meanwhile, you can't help wondering where the escalation of events will end. Nor can you help from wondering who wants the Twiss land or what's really behind the harassment and the change of ruling...

A suburban Philadelphia city has declared a state of emergency following the fourth killing in eight days, including the death of a 2-year-old boy a week ago. Mayor Wendell Butler Jr. today proclaimed the state of emergency beginning tonight and running through Thursday morning, and he said he will ask the city council to extend it for a month. During that time, no one is allowed on the street from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. each day, and no assembly of three or more people is allowed without a permit.
