Three men were killed and at least 16 others wounded during a violent nine-hour spree of shootings across the city that began late Tuesday afternoon. The spike in violence occurred as temperatures climbed into the 80s and the city basked in the warmest weather yet this year. It also coincided with an announcement by police that the city’s troubling murder statistics were down 42 percent when compared to the same period of time last year.

Could there be a link between Norway-based LTTE operatives and Anders Behring Breivik, who bombed the Norwegian government headquarters in Oslo and wiped out a youth group on a nearby island on July 22 killing over 80 civilians? Responding to a query by The Island, informed sources said that the Norwegian could have had a link with the LTTEactivists in Norway. Breivik, in his 1,518 manifesto, which was released hours before he carried out the massacre, said had felt that Europe should follow the LTTE example of expelling the Muslims from Sri Lanka. He had interpreted the expulsion of Muslims...

It doesn’t get any messier as Los Angeles police officers, involved in a statewide manhunt for an ex-LAPD colleague, came across vehicles matching the one sought by authorities in massive manhunt at two separate locations. The first location in Torrance involved Los Angeles police detectives from the Hollywood division, who got caught up in an officer involved shooting, which resulted in gunfire injuring two women that had been delivering newspapers. They have since been transported to an area hospital. The incident took place at approximately 5:20 a.m. in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue according to sources. The extent of...

It’s getting easier to get away with shooting people in Chicago. Last year, gunmen who shot and wounded someone got away without criminal charges 94 percent of the time, according to a DNAinfo.com Chicago analysis of police data. That’s even worse than 2011, when 91.5 percent of shooters escaped charges, according to the data. Chicago’s top cop said the “no-snitch” code of silence on the street is the biggest contributor in his department’s struggle to charge shooters. (My emphasis)

Why do all these shootings seem to come in waves? Sometimes multiple shootings or gun related crimes happen in one day? For instance an office shooting in Phoenix AND.. this other crazed guy who took a child hostage down in a "bunker" This happened a week or so ago where we had two or three shootings in different cities on in one day?? What's going on???

The ghastly murders in Newtown, Conn., reflect the horrify prevalence of suicide here and across the globe. Before we turn up the volume on the Second Amendment. Before we trot out data proving that more guns lead to more violence — or don't. Before we re-live every senseless mass murder and make children afraid to step into a movie theater, school or mall. Before all of this and worse — experts would be wise to examine a phenomena that has been the impetus behind so many recent attacks on innocent civilians: Long before the perpetrators reached for a weapon, they...

The way the media branch of the government salivates over shootings, you would think another theater shooting not long after Aurora would be big news, especially if it offered the added excitement of beginning in a nearby restaurant before moving into the theater. Yet we never heard much about last month’s Mayan Palace 14 shootings in San Antonio, in which two innocents were wounded. Detective Louis Antu, spokesman for the Bexar County Sherriff’s Office, said the shooting began at a nearby China Garden and “carried on into the theater.” At one point, the suspect fired at a San Antonio Police...

We can argue all day about why we have so many evil wackos who decide to kill innocent children, but we’re stuck with them for the present, and pretending they’re not out there is playing a foolish and deadly form of Russian roulette. Yet that is exactly the game gun control advocates insist that we play by mandating that all schools be gun-free zones. So what’s the answer? I’ll answer that by asking a simple question: Why do these shooters head for schools instead of police stations when they want to commit mass murder?

PHOENIX - Officials in the U.S. say detectives have arrested a 16-year-old female student and foiled an Arizona school shooting plot with the help of Toronto police. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says the girl's threat was posted on a YouTube channel owned by a transgender community in Toronto. The owner of the channel contacted Toronto police who then tracked down the teen who had plans to gun down her schoolmates at Red Mountain High and kill herself. According to Sheriff Joe Arpaio, U.S. detectives acted within hours of being alerted by officers in Toronto on Wednesday and visited the...

The report [51] provided a clinical window into the development of obsessive violence and a school shooter mentality. A twelve-year-old boy on fluoxetine developed nightmares about becoming a school shooter and then began to lose track of reality concerning these events. This case occurred in a controlled clinical trial and the investigators did not know that the child was getting fluoxetine until they broke the double-blind code. The child’s reaction occurred long before any of the well-known school shootings had taken place. Therefore, his reaction was not inspired by the school shootings; it was not a “copycat”: [51] R. King,...

What is missing in every gun-control discussion is a "full disclosure" of which politician has a concealed weapons permit, has any guns in his own home, or is protected by armed security guards. Just like the CNBC disclosure regarding touting stocks and the personal holdings of the person touting the stock, we need a "full disclosure" rule regarding armed protection of the politicians who advocate gun control. It was one of the most tragic days in Connecticut history, and investigations continue into why, and how, a man could walk into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown and kill 20 children and six adults. Police said 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire inside the school, killing children and adults before killing himself. (snip) Inside the school, the Associated Press is reporting that a custodian ran through the halls of the school, warning of a gunman, and someone inside the school's office switched on the intercom, perhaps saving dozens of lives by letting them hear what was unfolding inside the...

The human cost of the War of 1812 was dramatic. Some 35,000 people were killed, wounded or missing at the end of the war. York (now Toronto), Niagara (now Niagara-on-the-Lake) and Washington, D.C. were torched. Elsewhere, homes and properties were looted and damaged and family lives were thrown into chaos. The borders between British North America and the United States might not have changed when the fighting stopped — the old lines were reconfirmed in the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war on December 24, 1814. But once the treaty was signed, there wasn’t simply a return to the...

Just before midnight on a Sunday, a Miramar couple and their college student daughter were preparing for bed in their home in a gated community. Suddenly, three masked intruders tried to bull their way through the front door. Armed with a handgun, the 55-year-old homeowner opened fire, falling backward to the floor as he pulled the trigger. One of the would-be robbers, hit by several bullets, collapsed on the front porch. The other two ran for their lives. Police called the Sept. 30 shooting justified. The man's 24-year-old daughter said, "My father is a hero. We're just fortunate to be...

Aurora Colorado and the Sikh Temple. Rampage Killings:A clinical response analysis Part I The Stage: The recent Aurora Colorado and Sikh Temple rampage killings have the urban liberals and their ilk once again howling for gun bans and damning semi-autos as weapons of mass destruction fit only for battlefields. The gun culture counters with how it shows once again that venues where guns are banned (the theater and the Temple are gun free zones) are nothing but killing zones targeted by the rampage killers. This article and Part II to follow, instead describes a formula for dramatically decreasing your odds...

We've been hearing a lot of that recently. Earlier this year, The New York Times reprinted a Department of Justice press release and slapped this lede on top of it: “As violent crime has decreased across the country, a disturbing trend has emerged: Rising numbers of police officers are being killed.” Bloomberg and The New York Times are both wrong: In 2008, ten times more civilians regular people were killed by cops than cops were killed by perps. In 2011, 72 cops were shot and killed in the entire U.S.; in L.A. County alone, cops shot and killed 54 suspects...

Not to take a term from John Edwards, but I totally am, it does indeed seem there are "Two Americas" when it comes they types of Laws that get passed by any legislator be they on the state, local, national, or international level (UN Gun Treaties). Those "Two Americas" are the Two types of laws that are passed. One is the "Punitive Law" which makes actually doing a certain act that DIRECTLY hurts another human being. This sort of Law is one that makes it illegal to kill, steal, sexually assault, physically assault, etc... This sort of law is enforced...
