A would-be armed robber apparently had second thoughts when an employee pulled out his shotgun Monday night. It happened at the Salem & Sons Convenience Store on Sunset Avenue in Rocky Mount around 10:20 p.m. Police say employees were inside cleaning up, and saw a customer at the front door. They let the man inside, but at the same time another man came in as well and showed a black handgun in the direction of an employee. That employee immediately got his shotgun, racked the slide, and pointed it at the would-be robber. The robber then turned around and slowly...

A punt gun is a type of extremely large shotgun used in the 19th and early 20th centuries for shooting large numbers of waterfowl for commercial harvesting operations. Punt guns were usually custom-designed and so varied widely, but could have bore diameters exceeding 2 inches and fire over a pound (0.5 kilos) of shot at a time. A single shot could kill over 50 waterfowl resting on the water's surface. They were too big to hold and the recoil so large that they were mounted directly on the punts used for hunting, hence their name. Hunters would maneuver their punts...

Great way to re-enact your favorite movies as you soak others with expensive alcohol. Forget the fact that it doesn’t look threatening. Forget the fact that it resembles one of those cookie press guns. Just make someone drink up with extreme prejudice. Nothing on price or availability, but once the folks at UrbanTrend put their booze guns down and sober up, maybe they’ll let us know. They only hold one ounce of booze, so expect to reload a lot.

A man who threatened to behead two women because they were Christians was attacked in self-defense early Saturday and injured so severely, police say, that his eye was to be removed. Russell Bowman, who called himself an atheist, showed up with a large knife at the women's apartment in the 700 block of Tia Juana Street about 3:15 a.m., police said. Another resident grabbed a shotgun and ordered him to put the knife down. When Bowman refused and began approaching, the person hit him with the butt end of the weapon, police said. Doctors at Memorial Hospital reportedly told police...

MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- A Marion County man who opened fire on his wife bought the shotgun used in the crime just hours earlier at a nearby Wal-Mart. He didn't have to wait to get the gun. He passed a mandatory background check in the store and walked right out with it. The man then went back into the store and bought some shotgun shells. Detectives said he then went home and murdered his wife. Cheryl Schleher heard a knock at the door Monday night around 11 o'clock. It was her neighbor, Johnny High. "My husband went out there and...

It was a sight that would catch anyone's attention, a woman riding a bicycle around St. Cloud Monday night in bitter cold. Turns out there was another reason a citizen took notice: The cyclist was carrying a gun. Police caught up to the bicyclist a few minutes after a call came in around 11:15 p.m. They found her near 14th Avenue N. and St. Germain Street with a shotgun strapped to her back, said Sgt. Joe Kraayenbrink. Turns out the 22-year-old suspect is a felon and had a warrant out for her arrest, police said. She was arrested and faces...

Weapons maker's CEO defends safety of his products to MPs The Arizona-based company that makes Taser stun guns is developing a new device that is launched from a 12-gauge shotgun and can fire an electric charge from 20 metres away. The new technology has already led to inquiries from Canadian law enforcement agencies. Tom Smith, founder and chief executive officer of Taser International Inc., told a parliamentary committee studying the safety of the current Taser models in use that no deaths in Canada have been caused by the weapons. Smith said "scientific" research shows the stun guns are safe if...

The M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System (above) is a 12-gauge that can be used alone or attached to an M4 carbine with a clamp (1). The clip (2) holds five lethal or nonlethal rounds. The barrel is 7-3/4-in.-long alloy steel, threaded to receive a device (3) that ensures a 3-in. gap from the muzzle when using breaching rounds to blast open doors. Troops tested the weapon’s experimental predecessor in combat for a year, and reported trouble reaching the pump to reload. Designers switched to a straight-pull bolt action (4). Nearly 40,000 of the 4-pound, 3-ounce (stand-alone) shotguns will be delivered...

Sorry for posting this in the main area, but I need some advice quickly. Over the past few weeks I've been having a real coyote problem. We're in the San Joaquin Valley and have always had issues with the coyotes, but this year seems to be expecially bad (even traveling in small packs, which I've never seen before). I need some recommendations on the proper weapon to deal with these varmints.
