A handful of local businesses have posted signs banning, or welcoming, firearms since the state's open carry law went into effect Nov. 1. But many, possibly apprehensive to offend customers, have decided to wait and see if open carry becomes an issue first. Business owners have the right to control the presence of guns on their premises and it appears many are treading carefully since the open carry law went into effect Nov. 1. Signs banning, or welcoming, legal firearms are not widespread. Business owners face a difficult decision: if they ban firearms, will they alienate pro-gun customers? But if...

New Obamacare regulations will force pizza chains like Domino's to post up to 34 million nutrition signs in its stores -- one for every pizza combination the company makes. The rules require fast food and grocery stores that have more than 20 stores to require labels for each product they produce. Jenny Fouracre-Petko, the legislative director for Domino’s, said mandated signs will cost Domino’s nearly $5,000 per store. Even worse, the cost will get passed down to the consumer, many of whom will never see the signs since “10 percent of pizza customers never enter a Domino’s store” because they...

Riley Gunnoe says business is booming at his tool store in St. Albans. He says it's because of a sign outside. Gunnoe told me he didn't know what was going to happen when he put this phrase on it, "If you are for Obama's policies, please keep your dumba$$ out of this store." Gunnoe says he didn't know what was going to happen when he put the sign up. "I didn't care. But it really has doubled my business since I put it up so I'm glad I did now!" Some people in the community say it makes them question...

The Sign of the Cross "Let us not then be ashamed to confess the Crucified. Be the Cross our seal made with boldness by our fingers on our brow and in everything; over the bread we eat, and the cups we drink; in our comings in, and goings out; before our sleep, when we lie down and when we awake; when we are in the way and when we are still. Great is that preservative; it is without price, for the poor's sake; without toil, for the sick, since also its grace is from God. It is the Sign...

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – An Elk Grove mayoral candidate’s campaign sign was spray-painted, and the person accused of doing it is also a candidate. “And I just about fell over,” said Sophia Scherman, whose sign was vandalized. “I couldn’t believe when I heard the name.” That name – fellow candidate LaWanna Montgomery. For Scherman, this isn’t about politics — it’s personal. “At this point in time, an apology is too late,” she said Monday. A witness called the cops after seeing someone with a bag over their head spray-painting a Scherman sign late Saturday night. Police say the suspect’s car...

Muskego - Police are investigating an incident in which an Obama campaign sign was set ablaze, likely with a flammable liquid, in the yard of a Muskego home last weekend. Obama's name could still be seen in a corner of the melted sign, but it otherwise almost entirely burned up, even leaving some spots of blackened grass on the North Shore Road home of Bill Schuele. Authorities believe a small amount of a flammable liquid, such as gasoline, was used to help ignite the fire about 11 p.m. Saturday. A car driven by the suspected arsonist was seen by a...

Obviously, there’s nothing incendiary about this image for TTAG’s Armed Intelligentsia. But imagine this sign in, say, a bank. Or a church. School? Court house? Department of Motor Vehicles? Post office? Maybe it’s time to go on offense, and I don’t mean that in a Ted Nugent kinda way. More like Elvis. If I can dream of a better land . . . [h/t Enzo]

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Angela Agrippa is an emotional wreck. "This home just means everything to us, it's just going to be so hard to walk away," she said. That is her worst nightmare, but it could happen in just four months. Agrippa bought her home back in 1991 for $61,000. She took a couple of home loans out on it over the years. But the sale of a rental property helped her pay off much of those loans years later.

CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. — A Cranberry Township restaurant has a sign outside its doors that reads, "Flying remote control airplanes into Muslim people at the mall is my thing." Part-time owner of Domenico's, Michael Pollice, said this isn't anything new. He's displayed signs like it in the past and sees nothing wrong with continuing to do so. "It's not real deep," said Pollice. "Because I am a shallow person."

ACUSHNET (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Catholic church in Acushnet is stirring up controversy because of what's on a sign out front. A sign outside of the Saint Francis Xavier Church Tuesday now reads "TWO MEN ARE FRIENDS NOT SPOUSES." Someone who didn't agree left a rainbow colored balloon and a note that read "you may not be welcome in the church, but all people are welcome in this community! Spread LOVE not hate!" The church sits directly across from the town hall and serves the Fall River Diocese. Angry parishioners and residents took to the church's Facebook page...

Everyone who's ever gone to school should know how to spell "school." But someone who plastered a school crossing sign on the street in front of a New York City high school got it wrong. The New York Post reports ( http://nyp.st/zzfXDj) that the big white letters in front of Marta Valle High School on the Lower East Side say "SHCOOL X-NG."

Anthony Weiner officially resigned from the House of Representatives this week, and today his name has disappeared from the wall outside his former office. This sign now adorns office 2104 of the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill.

Weiner represented New York's Ninth Congressional District, but history is sometimes blurred by time, and Weiner was, at least as of this photo's snapping, remembered as having represented the "Nineth" district instead. We hope the typo has been corrected, especially since red pen may not show up so well on the dark brown sign.

A group of New York City atheists is demanding that the city remove a street sign honoring seven firefighters killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks because they say the sign violates the separation of church and state. The street, “Seven in Heaven Way,” was officially dedicated last weekend in Brooklyn outside the firehouse where the firefighters once served. The ceremony was attended by dozens of firefighters, city leaders and widows of the fallen men. “There should be no signage or displays of religious nature in the public domain,” said Ken Bronstein, president of New York City Atheists. “It’s...

Doubling down on RomneyCare, confirming that he believes in climate change, now this. Say this for him: At least he’s not a total pander machine this time around. He just … seems to be in the grip of a political death wish. I can’t even explain this in terms of him wanting to stick by a position he espoused in the past in order to signal to voters that he’s “authentic” and won’t bend on his principles easily. His position, ostensibly, is that he’s pro-life. This makes him look like he’s inching back towards his pro-choice past. Is he in...

Denis O’Leary of the Police Department’s Park Station. A man and woman approached the victim, tore one of the signs and shook the table, causing the political literature to fall to the ground. The...

In an already nasty election year, outspoken San Francisco defense attorney Tony Serra has unfurled a huge banner in front of his building near busy and tourist-heavy Broadway and Kearny streets in North Beach, stating “F*** Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina.” (snip) “To utterly condemn someone, that’s what the “F” word means to me, and that’s the way it’s intended, but I think they’re a threat to democracy itself. Do you remember when Democrats used to defend free speech? That isn't true anymore. Democrats now want to silence the opposition. Last year, the Huntington Common Council tried to pass a signage bill that caused a huge backlash from local business owners. It called for limited sign space, amount and placement. The proposal was defeated. In March of this year, they tried again. For a second time, the proposal was defeated. The proposal from the Huntington Planning Commission contained 35 pages and was not business friendly. So back to the drawing board. Now they have planned a vote for this coming Tuesday.

ACAMPO, Calif. (CBS) An anti-Obama sign that had sparked an investigation after being placed near a busy California highway was removed overnight just as local and federal investigators were looking into whether the sign and its almost-obscene phrases was a crime. The sign along Highway 99 in Acampo, Calif., switched letters between words to avoid outright profanity, reading: "Obama = Niggardly," "Hurts small biz," "Buck Ofama," with a sign on the side that reads "Gone fish'n." It's unclear who took the sign down. Although the sign didn't display actual racial epithets -- the word "niggardly" is defined by dictionaries as...

Lots of Texans waved political signs for candidates Tuesday. Chris Howe was locked up for it. In a story that sounds like something from behind the Iron Curtain, Watauga police jailed Howe, 29, for holding a campaign sign on public property. He supported Debra Medina. But it wouldn't matter if he supported Kinky Friedman. What matters is that an American city has put a man in jail for free speech. Since 2000, Watauga has specifically outlawed political signs on public property. It's part of your typical city ordinance restricting garage-sale signs and other litter. Somehow, police and city attorneys stretched...

MOUNT CLEMENS – Some people still take off right after Communion at St. Peter Church, but not as many now that they have to walk under signs that read "Judas left early too." Fr. Cooney says putting the signs up at each of the three exits was "a bit of Irish diplomacy" aimed at addressing a long-standing source of frustration for many Catholic priests: people who leave Mass early, rather than staying for the dismissal. Perhaps one of the reasons the signs had a positive effect is that he introduced them with humor, rather than scolding the congregation, he believes....

Why some environmentalists believe the president has the power to sidestep the Senate and commit the US to a global pact. In 1997, in the Japanese city of Kyoto, the Clinton administration agreed to a groundbreaking treaty to combat global warming. And that's when the trouble started. The Senate had unanimously refused to approve the Kyoto Protocol, and in the end the Clinton administration didn't even submit it for a vote in the upper chamber. This made the US both the world's biggest polluter and, ultimately, the only industrialized nation to reject the accord. Now, as world leaders attempt to...
