The lawyer who O.J. Simpson is claiming falsely represented him in a 2008 trial testified on Friday morning and contradicted much of what Simpson had already sworn. Simpson, who is currently serving a nine- to 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery and kidnapping charges, alleged that his lawyer, Yale Galanter, provided faulty counsel and is consequently seeking a new trial. Galanter disputed that notion in a Las Vegas courtroom Friday. According to Galanter, Simpson had divulged a plan, along with five other men, to retrieve various pieces of sports memorabilia from two industry dealers. Simpson believed some of the pieces...

A few years ago, I wrote a book, "Jesus Wept" an American Story. The story, in part, was about Cherokee Chief John Ross, a 1/8th Cherokee blood, white, blue eyed greedy tyrant. The more time goes on, the more he reminds me of Barak Obama. He was put in power by Major Ridge and some other realistic Cherokees, who thought the tribe, which functioned under a constitutional government, would fare better in Washington DC if represented by Ross who would be identified more with the white leaders. And for a time, that seemed to work. Until Ross got the taste...

CHICAGO - Americans interested in getting the national debt crisis under control likely will have to endure cuts to popular programs like defense, Social Security - and the nationalized health insurance program known as Obamacare. Speaking in stark terms and folksy language, the duo laid out the dire reality of the situation to 4,000 investors at the Charles Schwab Impact conference Thursday. "Who the hell is kidding who on what this is going to cost?" Simpson, the former Wyoming senator, said of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka "Obamacare." "We haven't found any constituency yet who wants to...

Carole Simpson, the first — and, until tomorrow, only — woman to moderate a presidential debate, slammed the Commission on Presidential Debates this morning for never allowing a woman to moderate a presidential debate in which they actually get to choose the questions. "I was very upset that women were reduced to the vice presidential debate and to the town-hall format, which does not give a woman a chance to ask the questions," Simpson told MSNBC's Chris Jansing today.

SAN FRANCISCO – O.J. Simpson jokes are apparently now fair game in presidential politics. President Obama invoked the former NFL star acquitted of murder Monday night during a fundraiser here during a riff about Sesame Street characters on the run from Mitt Romney seeking to cut federal funding from public broadcasting. “Elmo has been seen in a white Suburban,” Obama said. “He’s driving for the border.” Simpson, of course, traveled in a white Ford Bronco, not a Chevrolet Suburban, during his infamous 1994 low-speed chase through Los Angeles.

Alan Simpson Decries 'Wretched Group of Seniors' Over Social SecurityBy Michael Ono | ABC OTUS News – Wed, May 23, 2012 Former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson sent an fiery letter filled with expletives to the California Alliance for Retired Americans for a flyer the group sent out slamming the Bowles-Simpson commission report for proposed cuts to Social Security as one way to deal with the long-term deficit. "Your little flyer entitled "Bowles! Simpson! Stop using the deficit as a phony excuse to gut our Social Security!" is one of the phoniest excuses for a "flyer" I have ever seen," said...

For some time now, particularly after changing their name from Handgun Control, Inc., the Brady Campaign has been assuring Americans they don’t want to ban guns. The idea of a “slippery slope” is something they ridicule as “gun lobby” paranoia. They acknowledge since the Heller decision this will be an unlikely goal (for now), claiming, “Now that the Court has struck down the District’s ban on handguns, while making it clear that the Constitution allows for reasonable restrictions on access to dangerous weapons, this ‘slippery slope’ argument is gone.” It’s true that a narrow 5-4 decision by the high court...

Former Senator Alan Simpson had some choice words for his one time colleague, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. "I know Santorum, I served with him," he said. "He is rigid and a homophobic. He believes that gays and lesbians, he mentioned in an interview in 2003, about bestiality, and gays and lesbians. I think that's disgusting," said Simpson. The former three-term Senator from Wyoming has always been known for both his candor and his ability to work across party lines, said Republicans are hurting themselves by focusing on social issues. "Here's a party that believes in government out of your...

I Think She Is Upset! Alan Simpson, Senator from Wyoming , Co-Chair of Obama's deficit commission, called senior citizens the Greediest Generation as he compared "Social Security" to a Milk Cow with 310 million teats. Here's a response in a letter from PATTY MYERS in Wyoming ... I think she is a little ticked off! She also tells it like it is! "Hey Alan, let's get a few things straight.. 1. Obama 'smarter' than critics, says Alan Simpson By: Jennifer Epstein August 5, 2011 02:23 PM EDT Former Sen. Alan Simpson, a Republican who co-chaired President Barack Obama’s fiscal commission, says that the president is “a little bit smarter” than some of his critics, who “ought to give it up.” Simpson, who represented Wyoming from 1979 to 1997, said that Obama would have been “savaged” and “torn to bits” had he chosen to publicly support the findings of the commission, which was also chaired by Erskine Bowles, an advisor to the Clinton administration. “This guy is a little bit smarter than...

Former senator and fiscal-commission co-chair Alan Simpson (R., Wyo.) often speaks as if he’d been plucked from the stage of one of Harry Reid’s beloved cowboy-poetry festivals. And he certainly has some choice words for those he thinks are impeding the prospects for a deal on deficit reduction. He calls Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, “off his rocker.” He describes the AARP as a brick wall standing in the way of desperately needed entitlement reform, and blasts its leaders as a bunch of wealthy, self-aggrandizing lobbyists who pretend to speak for average Americans. “We’re not talking...

CNN interviews Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles on the budget debate taking place in Washington between Republicans who want to cut 1.6% of the budget in FY2011 and Democrats who want to cut no more than 0.28% of the budget. Both chairs of Barack Obama’s deficit commission scoff at the entire debate, pointing out that neither cuts would amount to a hill of beans in controlling the spiraling debt of the United States. Simpson and Bowles emphasize that the debate has to shift from discretionary spending to entitlement reform, and that certain established interests (cough-cough-AARP-cough) are doing their best to...

Jessica Simpson may not know the difference between chicken and tuna, but she can distinguish what's in style and what's not. And it's earning her A LOT of money. MIAMI — O.J. Simpson may not be coming back to South Florida for a good long while, but he's still entitled to a homestead exemption on his Kendall home. So ruled the Miami-Dade County property appraiser's office after a neighbor complained that the convicted armed robber and long-ago football and TV star's current extended residency at a Nevada prison should preclude him from receiving the property-tax break usually afforded to Florida homeowners. Now the miffed neighbor, David Weston, thinks someone in Tallahassee should take another look.

Scientists have discovered a gene which makes mice more intelligent when it is not working. Nicknamed the ‘Homer Simpson gene’, after the hapless cartoon character, it operates in a part of the brain which regulates how animals learn and form new memories. The researchers from the Emory University School of Medicine say that deleting the gene in mice made them more skilled at navigating mazes and remembering objects. (Snip) John Hepler, PhD, professor of pharmacology at Emory University School of Medicine, said: "A big question this research raises is why would we, or mice, have a gene that makes us

Leave it to third-string, has-been quarterbacks of the Republican Party to throw an interception at the precise moment conservatives are about to turn the game around. What is wrong with people like former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, former Senator Alan Simpson and Senator Orrin Hatch? I am sorely tempted to use one of those phrases made famous by Rahm Emanuel. One would get the impression that Republicans simply sit back and say "no" to all the noble, but slightly flawed, ideas proposed by Democrats. One would think that Republicans never have ideas, but that coming to a table...

The royal princes plodded slowly and sadly behind the coffin of their father, George V, as it was hauled through the streets of London to lie in state in Westminster Hall. In the silent crowd, Bloomsbury artist Vanessa Bell looked on the gun carriage draped with the royal standard and surmounted by the Imperial Crown and thought it 'unexpectedly lovely'. But then she caught sight of the new King, Edward VIII. What struck her was not just that he looked utterly miserable and very small, but that he was 'disreputable, patchy and debauched'. She was not impressed.

The Nevada Supreme Court said a judge in Clark County, Nev., should have given the media access to questionnaires from ex-athlete O.J. Simpson's robbery trial. The Nevada Supreme Court voted 6-0 Thursday that Clark County District Judge Jackie Glass's decision to deny the press access to jury questionnaires from the 2008 trial was ill-advised given the press's First Amendment rights, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Friday. The state's top court said Glass's promise to jurors to keep the questionnaires confidential "does not supersede the public's and press's First Amendment right to access criminal proceedings." Court justices said they ruled on...

It seems O.J. Simpson is a master of race relations. Earlier this year, the double-murder acquittee had an ill-matched cellmate at Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada, where he's serving 33 years for kidnapping. A memorabilia dealer who claims he suffered four heart attacks after O.J. Conservative talk radio is like a big pot of soup filled with chunks of carrots, potatoes, celery, tomatoes, corn and whatever other vegetables were tossed in. Each personality is different, but they contribute to the overall flavor. Liberal talk radio is a similar pot of soup with the same ingredients but it's been pureed. There are no lumps, and it all looks the same – bland with no personality. It's no surprise then that conservatives get attention and criticism from the political opposition, which doesn't like to be confronted with differing thoughts and ideas. Political correctness clashes with reasoned opinions....

LAS VEGAS — A Nevada corrections official says O.J. Simpson has arrived at a northern Nevada prison to serve his 9 to 33 year sentence. State prisons spokeswoman Suzanne Pardee says the 61-year-old Simpson was moved Friday to Lovelock Correctional Center, about 90 miles northeast of Reno. Lovelock is one of the newest and smallest prisons in the Nevada state prison system. It opened in 1995 and houses just under 1,500 inmates in two-bed cells.

Conventional wisdom holds that U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald ordered the FBI to arrest Rod Blagojevich before sunrise Tuesday in order to stop a crime from being committed. That would have been the sale of the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama. But the opposite is true: Members of Fitzgerald’s team are livid the scheme didn’t advance, at least for a little longer, according to some people close to Fitzgerald’s office. Why? Because had the plot unfolded, they might have had an opportunity most feds can only dream of: A chance to catch the sale of a Senate seat on...

LAS VEGAS – O.J. Simpson is headed to prison for at least nine years, but a prosecutor says the former football star could have spent less time behind bars if he had accepted a plea deal before he was convicted. Clark County District Attorney David Roger said Simpson was offered a deal for less prison time than the nine- to 33-year prison terms the graying former football star was sentenced to on Friday for kidnapping and assaulting two sports memorabilia dealers with a deadly weapon. "Mr. Simpson wanted something just short of a public apology," Roger said. "We didn't think...

LAS VEGAS – A weary and beaten-looking O.J. Simpson was put away Friday for at least nine years — and perhaps the rest of his life — for an armed robbery in a hotel room, bringing a measure of satisfaction to those who believed the football star got away with murder more than a decade ago. The 61-year-old Hall of Famer listened stone-faced, his wrists in shackles, as Judge Jackie Glass pronounced the sentence — 33 years behind bars with eligibility for parole after less than a third of that. Moments before, Simpson made a rambling, five-minute plea for leniency,...
