A 60-foot-wide sinkhole formed under a resort in central Florida late Sunday, forcing guests out of their rooms as one three-story building collapsed and another slowly sank. Guests at the Summer Bay Resort in Clermont, about 10 minutes from Walt Disney World, called for help before the collapse, saying they heard loud noises and windows cracking. All guests inside the buildings -- an estimated 35 people, authorities said -- were evacuated before the first structure crumbled. CLERMONT, Fla. - A sinkhole has caused a building housing vacationers at a Central Florida resort to collapse. [PHOTOS: Sinkhole swallowing Central Florida resort] Fire officials said that about 50 percent of the three-story villa at the Summer Bay Resort, located about 10 miles west of Disney World, collapsed around 3 a.m. Monday. SEFFNER -- Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Engine is on the scene of a sinkhole that opened between two homes in Seffner around 7 p.m. According to reports, the hole was described as approximately 8 feet in diameter and 10 feet deep. The homes have been evacuated as a precaution. There are no structures involved at this time.

"Gov. Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency Friday in Assumption Parish after officials ordered an immediate evacuation of the Bayou Corne area because a slurry area appeared to be expanding. "The fear of the unknown prompted the evacuation order," said John Boudreaux, director of the parish's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
