Regime Wages a Quiet War on 'Star Students' of Iran

Behind the drama unfolding in the streets of Iran, the regime is quietly clamping down on some of the nation's best students by derailing their academic and professional careers. On Wednesday, progovernment militia attacked and beat students at a school in northeastern Iran. Since last Sunday's massive protests nationwide, dozens of university students have been arrested as part of an aggressive policy against what are known as Iran's "star students." In most places, being a star means ranking top of the class, but in Iran it means your name appears on a list of students considered a threat by the...

Students resist Colorado State gun ban

Reporting from Denver - After a gun-wielding student killed 32 at Virginia Tech, faculty at Colorado State University in Fort Collins found, to their alarm, that theirs was one of the few public schools in the country with no policy banning firearms. Anyone with a concealed weapons permit could legally carry on campus. Students, however, were alarmed when the faculty moved to change that. Among other arguments, students contended that permitting people to carry concealed weapons was the campus' best defense against another tragedy. "Let's say you have another Columbine or Virginia Tech," said Dan Gearhart, the student government president....

25 Brits in jet bomb plots (returning Yemen to UK early 2010-await instructions)

COPS fear that 25 British-born Muslims are plotting to bomb Western airliners. The fanatics, in five groups, are now training at secret terror camps in Yemen. It was there London-educated Umar Abdulmutallab, 23, prepared for his Christmas Day bid to blow up a US jet. The British extremists in Yemen are in their early 20s and from Bradford, Luton and Leytonstone, East London. They are due to return to the UK early in 2010 and will then await internet instructions from al-Qaeda on when to strike. A Scotland Yard source said: "The great fear is Abdulmutallab is the first of...

Confronting Bully-ism

The other morning a police car was parked beside the bus. A benign interloper, I watched intently as two unsmiling officers spoke to attentive, fear-frozen little faces inside the bus. Curious, I waited before walking to my campus office to ask the policemen what had happened. They shook their heads in quiet frustration before one responded to my question. “Several parents have reported incidents of bullying on this bus and at the elementary school. We were asked to speak to the students, to give them a lecture. I guess that’s our job.” In light of that episode and some other...

Local Colleges Give Poor Grades to Proposal by Mayor Ravenstahl That Aims to Raise Money to Alleviate City's Pension Woes. BY KRIS MAHER PITTSBURGH -- Facing big unfunded pension liabilities for city workers, Pittsburgh is proposing what appears to be a one-of-a-kind 1% tuition tax on local university and college students, who claim the tax is illegal and unfair. More than 100 students filled Pittsburgh City Council chambers Monday morning, many bearing signs like "No Taxation Without Representation" to protest the tax, which, if passed this week, could become effective next year. "This is going to be a double taxation...

Students against Socialism turn heads at Washington University

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY (KMOX Radio) -- Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a demonstration at Washington University against socialism was making some students uncomfortable. Students cutting across the campus on a warm fall day heard the Soviet National Anthem in the breeze, coming from loud speakers inside a makeshift prison camp complete with a high-wire fence, blood-stained inmates and goose-stepping guards in Soviet-era uniforms. Organizer Dirk Doebler of the conservative group Young Americans for Liberty says the goal was to show a "liberal-leaning" campus the ugly history of socialism.

Need cartoon of teacher re-distributing grades

Many of you are really good with visual presentations. Wade Rathke is giving a speech at Springfield College on the ninth. We will be protesting outside the hall. We want to pass out a flier depicting a professor re-distributing grades from hard working students to slackers; this as a clear example how socialism and "social justice" works. I am not good with art or drawing! If anyone out there has a cartoon or diagram similar to this, I would appreciate your sharing it with us as we are trying to change minds and influence the thoughts of the future generation.

Students at Howenstine High Magnet School will be collecting donations for troops serving in Afghanistan as part of Make a Difference Day. But the students' efforts are not a one-day deal. Instead, Corrine Blum's service learning class decided to adopt a Marine unit as a yearlong project. They sent a box of letters and personal items to the troops last month and are now planning to adopt an Army unit. The project began when Blum told her students she was planning to send a package to a family friend serving in Afghanistan. She asked her students if they wanted to...
