Mountain House, the leading domestic brand of freeze-dried food, released the results today of a study designed to illustrate how different brands handle oxygen levels in their long-term food storage products. The study, conducted by Columbia Food Laboratories, focused on oxygen levels found in pouches of Mountain House freeze-dried foods compared to those of a competitor. For proper long-term food storage, its important to maintain oxygen exposure as low as possible, said Lee Goin, laboratory director at Columbia Food Laboratories. Oxygen causes rancidity in foods containing unsaturated fats. Even slight rancidity can make a food undesirable. Oxygen causes nutritional value...

For Only $23,999.00 ... the Ultimate Zombie Apocalypse Survival Kit Your last hope: The $24,000 zombie survival kit Don't expect big firepower from this gear collection, but it does have a few tools that could keep you alive among the undead. My preparations for the coming zombie apocalypse came down to one thing: a baseball bat. But this kit from OpticsPlanet makes me think I'm being terribly naive. The Z.E.R.O. America is headed for a fiscal cliff if members of Congress fail to act before the end of the year. Many economists agree that if no action is taken, 2013 will begin with a $600 billion drag on the economy, or a 4 to 5 percent hit to GDP, due to a combination of tax hikes and budget cuts set to take effect. To put that in perspective, the knock to economic growth could be twice as much as current GDP growth forecasts for all of 2012 and more than any annual GDP growth in the last decade. Former Treasury...

It seems like a good choice for VEHICLE DEFENSE, only it wasn't a Judge, it was a Smith and Wesson Governor. This revolver holds 6 rounds, not the five that the Judge holds and its chambers can handle three distinct rounds, the .45 Long Colt, .45 ACP, and the .410 gauge 2.5-inch shotshells. Almost a week after the D.C. area was pummeled with raging storms, many individuals are still suffering in the July heat without lights, phone lines, and, perhaps most importantly, air conditioning. In the immediate aftermath of this event, tens of thousands of Washingtonians, Marylanders, and Virginians were left without power. My observations will be preaching to the choir in this forum but here goes: Gasoline was gone within 24 hours. Lines were just like the 1970s fuel embargo. Ice became the chief commodity and was in short supply or no supply. Water was out for most people at least for the first two days. Most big box stores and gas stations were up on generator power by day three. A new shipment of 250 generators was sold in a few hours. Temperatures in the high 90s added another layer of difficulty.
