About 50 protesters marched in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday to decry violence by illegal immigrants and to demand that the Los Angeles Police Department change its controversial policy limiting when someone can be questioned about their immigration status. The marchers, including anti-illegal-immigration Minutemen and local community activists, also called for justice for Jamiel Shaw II, 17, a black athlete who was shot and killed in March by an alleged gang member who was in the country illegally.

The forum seemed tailor-made for Ted Hayes, the Los Angeles activist for the homeless who has become one of the nation's most visible African Americans raising a ruckus about illegal immigration. A mostly black crowd had gathered at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Los Angeles for a feisty debate about illegal immigration's effects on the African American community. When Minister Tony Muhammad of the Nation of Islam and others called for black-brown unity, they drew boos and yells of dissent. "Illegal immigration is wrong! They have no business being in this country!" shouted one audience member, drawing thunderous...

SEAN HANNITY: Homeless advocate Ted Hayes was assaulted Tuesday for spreading his message that illegal immigrants are damaging this country and specifically attacking African-Americans. An immigration group started false rumors about Hayes being connected to the Ku Klux Klan, which resulted in a black militant assaulting Hayes and spitting at him during a press conference.... Ted, we haven't always agreed. But I want to bring specifically into this you're against illegal immigration and you've taken a stand. Somebody just attacked you for your views. TED HAYES, IMMIGRATION OPPONENT: Actually, yes sir. Actually, the guy just spit in my face. That's...

To say the amnesty bill is an emotional issue is an understatement. The Capitol Hill phones have been ringing non-stop, causing some members to simply unplug them, and turn off their answering machines. They are hearing from their constituents that they don’t want this amnesty bill to pass and they are ignoring these pleas. But to have a citizen arrested because they disagree is beyond the pale and begs the question, why do they care more about illegal aliens than they do their own constituents? Homeless activist, Ted Hayes, was on Capitol Hill, like thousands of other citizens who make...

Five people were arrested at a Los Angeles park on Saturday as police dispersed anti-immigration demonstrators and counter-protestors, authorities said. Among those arrested for failure to obey was activist Ted Hayes, who organized the anti-immigration rally at MacArthur Park, said Officer April Harding. Hayes got a permit for a daylong rally of Minutemen activists and a smaller group of protesters demanding reparations for slavery. They were met by a crowd of about 300 pro-immigrant marchers carrying signs and vowing to prevent the others from marching into the park. A call to the Minutemen was not immediately returned. Police handled the...

A line of Los Angeles Police officers on Crenshaw Boulevard stood between a coalition of Minutemen and black activists, and a larger group of pro-immigrant marchers in Leimert Park today. Officers, some in riot gear, some in shorts and on bicycles, lined the usually-busy boulevard street. At 3:50 p.m., LAPD officials declared the anti- immigrant rally to be an illegal assemble, as its parade permit had expired, and a short time later arrested activist anti-immigration activist Ted Hayes. LAPD brass earlier had declared a tactical alert to muster enough officers to keep the two sides apart. And police, mindful...

LOS ANGELES A community of squat, futuristic domes once billed as a utopian refuge from life on the streets is itself facing homelessness. The silvery, igloo-like fiberglass structures, packed tightly on a downtown lot, are being sold online to the highest bidder. Such is the unceremonious end to Dome Village _ activist Ted Hayes' model of a self-governed, self-sufficient community for the homeless. Since its founding in 1993, the village has been visited by celebrities but has gone largely unnoticed by thousands of commuters buzzing past on the freeway nearby. Hayes said a big rent increase _ from $2,500 to...

It was a nice turn-out for Jeffers, who's running for the 47th seat to the California Assembly. When Ann arrived it simply lit up the room. Imagine that! From what I have been told about what Jeffors once did for Ann when she was in a debate in a hostile environment, this was a very nice way for her to have returned the favor. In attendence also was our Jim Robinson, accompanied by his own retinue. This was one of the few times I've had to speak with Jim in person, but the tumult circulating from the vicinity of Miss...

.Minutemen Rally in Leimert Park - No, Really. The pace car. "They are the most harmed by illegal immigration and it's time we focused our efforts in our inner...

LEIMERT PARK — A coalition of community activists from diverse backgrounds came together in Leimert Park Wednesday to denounce homeless activist Ted Hayes’ recent alliance with the ultra-conservative Minutemen Project as a means of battling illegal immigration. During an afternoon news conference at the Lucy Florence Coffeehouse, activist Najee Ali said he believed Hayes is being used as a pawn by what he called a racist faction that never has affiliated itself with the black community until now. “Ted Hayes and his involvement in the Minuteman group is certainly an issue that we should be concerned about,” Ali said. “We...

Reflecting intense passions over illegal immigration, a Los Angeles outdoor forum about its impact on blacks quickly became a screaming match Sunday between those urging a crackdown on undocumented migrants and others counseling tolerance. The gathering at Leimert Park in South Los Angeles, which eventually involved about 100 people, was aimed at publicizing what some blacks believe has been illegal immigration's negative effect on their neighborhoods, housing, schools and jobs, said Ted Hayes, founder of the Crispus Attucks Brigade, an African American group newly organized to fight the influx of undocumented migrants. (CBS) LOS ANGELES Several black activists plan to join members of the Minutemen Project to protest illegal immigration, which organizer Ted Hayes touted as the biggest threat to blacks in America since slavery. The protest, organized by Hayes Crispus Attucks Brigade and the American Black Citizens Opposed to Illegal Immigration Invasion, is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Hayes, a homeless activist, alleged that most homeless people in Los Angeles are black and illegal immigration compounds the problem since blacks refuse to accept the “slave wages that many illegal immigrants accept. Many pro-immigration rallies were held in recent weeks; most...

American blacks who are affiliated with the Republican Party are vigorously vilified by Democrats, especially black Democrats. Uncle Tom, sell-out, Oreo--the list of slurs is long. But it is not only insults. I am the founder and director of a unique, progressive homeless facility in downtown Los Angeles, known as the Dome Village. Yet the 35 men, women and children and their pets who call the Dome Village home are being "evicted" from privately owned property after 12 1/2 years--apparently on account of my political beliefs and activities. You see, though I am a leading homeless activist, I am also...

Rasta Republican Meet Los Angeles's Ted Hayes. He's black, dreadlocked--and belongs to the GOP. BY JILL STEWART Thursday, April 28, 2005 12:01 a.m. LOS ANGELES--Condoleezza Rice and Ward Connerly once epitomized black Republicans in California. But their ilk now also includes Ted Hayes, a social activist and inner-city coach whose billowing robes and dreadlocks don't exactly conjure up an image of the GOP. More blacks than ever support vouchers and faith-based initiatives, and side with President Bush on gay marriage. Mr. Hayes recently made the transition himself, ending a long journey for this former leftist who founded Dome Village, an...

A totemic figure in L.A., Mr. Hayes has long emphasized problem-solving and individual responsibility. If you want to stop kids from shooting people , Mr. Hayes has told appalled black preachers and activists, stop blaming cops and "white folks" for urban tragedy and start blaming the lackadaisical inner-city family culture you support. Mr. Hayes spent last fall tooling around the fortified neighborhoods of South Los Angeles, knocking on security screens and urging stunned residents to vote Bush. He explained that the Democratic Party was the Klan's party in the 20th century, and the party of the slave trade before that....

"We must make the dead know that their sacrifices were not in vain." This has been one of the major guiding points of the philosophy of Ted Hayes, Homeless Activist. Through protests, memorials and vigils, Ted's aim has been steadfast: To bring support to our troops, past and present, and to honor the sacrifices others have made in the name of the greater good of patriotism. To share in this honoring of the dead, a group of about fifty people gathered at 5:00am in Downtown LA for a memorial commemorating the dead of 9/11. The Memorial had two parts. The...
