Telesales reps have been asked to reveal the cruellest things people have said to them over the phone. Cold callers of reddit disclosed the harshest and most bizarre put-downs they have suffered, presumably before being hung up on by disgruntled members of the public. No one like being disturbed by strangers wasting their time with sales talk and most of us do not appear to be shy about telling random callers exactly what they think.

I need to keep my land line, but I'm about ready to turn the ringer off which means real calls won't get my attention. This all really started at the change of the year, and may have something to do with the small political donations. Maybe. I don't know. But it starts in the morning and ends in the early evening. One is particular is GE Capital and I do absolutely no business with them. I went throught the "don't call" years ago. Anyone else experiencing this?

WASHINTON – Thanks to a little known provision in the recent stimulus bill, your cell phone number will soon be in the hands of any telemarketing firm willing to pay the government’s fee. Section 411 of the bill empowers the FCC to ‘raise government funds through the sale of information assets’. The language is so vague that there were no concerns at the time over the potential impact, but telemarketing firms have been beating a path to the FCC’s door since they quietly announced the availability of the information that cellular providers are required by law to file with the...

Congress on Wednesday sent to President Bush two bills that would make permanent a program to protect consumers from unwanted phone calls from telemarketers. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Losing millions of potential customers to a "do-not-call" list will almost certainly mean big layoffs at telemarketing companies, where employees already hang from one of the working world's lower rungs. Some 2 million of the 6.5 million people who work in the industry will lose their jobs, according to the American Teleservices Association. It based its estimate on the Federal Trade Commission's prediction that 60 million Americans will eventually add their home telephone numbers to the national "do-not-call list. According to the association, 64 percent of telemarketers are minorities, 30 percent are recent recipients of some...

I've read over the course of the past few months the numerous threads regarding the use of telemarketing and the intrusion it has on our homes. I had a long discussion with my wife who hates the intrusion. I ask her why did they call her? She had no idea. Well, despite the black eye telemarketers get, it's probably the most effective way to get business. Even Mrs. Me admitted that if they called about something that she had an interest in, she probably would buy. BINGO. But let's look at if from another perspective. You will see numerous threads...

The phone rings in the middle of a busy day. “I just want to verify some information for your yellow page listing,” says a voice on the other end of the line. It’s your business, so you agree to the chat. Name. Address. Phone number. You reply with a simple “yes” to eight or nine rapid-fire questions. A month later, there’s a $29.95 charge on your phone bill for a service you don’t remember ordering. You’ve been crammed, another victim of fast-talking telemarketers who are skirting the edges of telecommunications law to create a multimillion industry. ..But the former employee,...

Realty Gift Source Fund 7400 Lohmans Ford Rd Lago Vista, TX 78645-4749 Phone: (512) 267-6717 I was able to dial in to both numbers and hear the machine dial numbers and repeating the same message every time it thinks someone answers. It's not too smart, doesn't check for dial tone or send disconnect before initiating new calls.

A few minutes ago, I received a phone call from one of the creatures I must hate in the world, that being the computer telemarketer. No person, just a glorified call-box that seeks out to annoy people. Was this from some typical liberal institution? Nope, it was from the California Republican Assembly. I'd love to get ahold of the full text of the message, I have to admit, I was so annoyed that I hardly listened. Some of the highlights that did penetrate my anger: McClintock is surging in the polls, Schwarzenegger has dropped by 50%, and that McClintock will...

The federal government's do-not-call list has saved millions of Americans from pesky telemarketers, but Tom Mabe had to take it one step further. The comedian and jingle-writer goes on the offensive on "A Wake-Up Call for Telemarketers," his CD being released today. Last year, Mabe traveled to Washington, D.C., for a telemarketers convention and stayed at their hotel. He waited until the wee hours of the morning -- and started dialing. Telemarketer: "Hello. Hello." Mabe: "Hi, this is Tom Mabe. I'm calling on behalf of the Telemarketers With Insomnia Foundation. How are you doing this evening sir?" Telemarketer: "Excuse me?"...

Claim: Telemarketers are luring those who've signed up for the national "Do Not Call" list by getting them to request coupons for free products.Status: True. This is to all of you that signed up for the "do not call" law. This week I received a card in the mail that looked alright — It said "vote for your favorite cola — Pepsi or Coke — and receive a complementary 12 pack" It didn't look suspicious — but for some reason I kept looking at it. THEN I FOUND IT !! At the bottom of the card there is a VERY...

WASHINGTON - Telemarketers expanded their legal challenge to the government's do-not-call list, suing a second federal agency over the call-blocking service for consumers. The telemarketing industry says the government's free registry for blocking telephone sales pitches will devastate business and cost 2 million jobs. The list has grown to more than 28 million numbers since it was opened June 27, according to the Federal Trade Commission, which operates the service and is predicted to grow to 60 million numbers. The American Teleservices Association, an industry group that sued the FTC in January to stop the list, asked a federal appeals...

Telemarketing Industry Sues Over Do-Not-Call List POSTED: 1:52 p.m. EDT July 28, 2003 WASHINGTON -- The telemarketing industry is widening its legal challenge to the government's national do-not-call list. The industry is suing a second federal agency over the call-blocking service, which telemarketers say will ruin their business and put up to 2 million people out of work. An industry group had sued the Federal Trade Commission in January to try to stop the list. Now it's asking a federal court to reject new rules set by the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC added its authority to the list...
