Florida officials have arrested radical anti-Islam preacher Terry Jones as he was on his way to a Sept. 11 event where he planned to burn 2,998 Korans, according to local news reports Wednesday. Jones is best known for stoking Muslim anger by publicly desecrating the religion´s holy book, sometimes with international consequences. This time law enforcement officials intervened before Jones could carry out his plans for a ceremonial Sept. 11 burning. Jones had planned to set alight 2,998 Korans at a Polk County park for the 12-year anniversary, with each Koran "representing one of the victims, every person who was

What came next offers a glimpse into Kelley's state of mind as a national scandal blew up in her front yard. Years ago, I picked up a tattered but serviceable edition of the great Eleventh Edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Published in 1910, the twenty-eight-volume monument to human curiosity about the “arts, sciences, literature and general information” is a testament to scholarly industry. Compared to the mealy-mouthed reference works that clutter library shelves today, which typically compete to outdo one another in the exhibition of moral relativism, the Eleventh Edition (the common shorthand by which the work is known) is also a testament to a neglected virtue: robust cultural confidence. For a Westerner, it is refreshing to dip into its unembarrassed...

Many of us in the U.S., regardless of our faith, viewed with despair the Quran-burning pastor’s actions —we knew innocents would likely die. President Barack Obama and others have spoken about the pastor, in the fall when he first threatened the burning and recently after he carried through with it. There is however a lapse in US leadership regarding appropriate responses to the burning. The lapse creates a dangerous window that should concern all Americans. The Bill of Rights addresses the issue of faith and free expression in Amendment I: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,...

In a stunning act of bipartisan moral cowardice, Harry Reid told the world that he’s considering a “probe” into the Florida pastor who burned a copy of the Koran, while Lindsey Graham announced his belief that Americans should give up their First Amendment rights to avoid offending Muslims. The irony that this shameful display happened on a show called “Face the Nation” was lost on the spineless appeasers who lack the dignity to feel ashamed when surrendering to barbarians thousands of miles away. In the wake of savages rioting in Afghanistan, two of our senior lawmakers are advocating the implementation...

Any woman who has sucessfully escaped from an abusive parter knows a thing or two about koran burning. She remembers all to clearly how it was always her fault when her husband beat the daylights out of her. She shouldn’t have made him so mad! She knows how he gets, she really ought to watch herself. Believing this kind of insanity is part of the syndrome. Lindsay Graham doesn’t want Americans exercising their 1st Amendment rights it if it’s going to make Muslims mad enough to commit violence. Even Sean Hannity is falling for the Blame the Victim mind manipulation....

Hey, General Petraeus, OF COURSE it is, “…hateful,… intolerant and…extremely disrespectful,” to burn the koran. That’s the point! They want us to be cowed by their religion, forced to be told what we can or can’t do, because of their death-cult religion. They have been extorting the world with their terror, because of that book! Is it burning one book that is responsible for the innocent deaths of hundreds of thousands of muslims and infidels worldwide? OR, 26% of the muslims IN THIS COUNTRY who follow that book thinking suicide bombings are legitimate? OR, filthy pedophile following imams preaching from...

Congressional leaders Sunday denounced the recent Koran burning in Florida that is being blamed for days of deadly anti-American riots across Afghanistan and hinted at possible congressional condemnation or hearings. The book burning, done by Florida pastor Terry Jones with little publicity at the time almost two weeks ago, is being blamed for attacks that led to the deaths of seven U.N. workers on Friday. Protests continued during the weekend, with 10 people killed in rioting in Kandahar on Saturday and Sunday. Hundreds of demonstrators burned an effigy of President Obama on Sunday in Jalalabad while stomping on a U.S....

Stirred to action by a Quran-burning at a Florida church, thousands of people swarmed past hapless Afghan police officers, heading toward a lightly protected U.N. compound. There, members of the tight-knit staff had been paying little attention to the angry protest unfolding at the city's central mosque. Mazar-e-Sharif has long been considered one of the safest cities in Afghanistan. So the diverse U.N. staff—including a female Norwegian fighter pilot, a seasoned Russian diplomat and German woman who had been at the mission for only a week or so—took few precautions even when the mob converged on their compound, burned an...

Enraged demonstrators took to the streets of Afghanistan for a third day Sunday, killing two and injuring dozens of others after a fundamentalist Florida pastor burned the Koran. President Hamid Karzai repeated his call to the White House, Senate and United Nations to bring to justice Terry Jones, the Gainsville, Fla. pastor who organized a mock "trial" that resulted in the burning of Islam's holy book on Friday, officials said. Jones is the same inflammatory religious leader who threatened to burn a Koran last year on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, triggering worldwide outrage. Protests have erupted throughout...
