  • Prank caller leads Coon Rapids Burger King employees to smash their windows

To the frantic manager of a Coon Rapids Burger King Friday night, the choice was to act fast or face disaster. A caller who said he was a fire department official said there was a gas leak in the building and that unless the windows were smashed, a gas buildup in the building would cause an explosion. So the manager and Burger King employees evacuated the restaurant and started smashing ground floor windows. Every single one. Problem was, it was a hoax. The caller was no firefighter. There was no gas.

The Strangest of Kings! A Homily for the Feast of Christ the King By: Msgr. Charles PopeThe reading today on this Feast of Christ the King evokes three images of Christ as King. All of them are to some extent paradoxical, for they emphasize things about a king that we don’t usually think of in relation to a king. They also tell us that we have already met King Jesus, even if we didn’t know it. Let’s look at these three images of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of all Creation.I. Caring King - The first reading, from Ezekiel...

Fallin Not In Oklahoma To Welcome President Obama Gov. Fallin's office says her absence this week isn't about politics but timing. Governor Mary Fallin did not greet President Obama when he arrived in Oklahoma Wednesday night. The Governor has made it no secret she's not a big fan of President Obama especially when it comes to his energy policies and the Keystone pipeline. But her office says her absence this week isn't about politics but timing. According to the Governor's press secretary, their office found out about the President's visit on Friday afternoon from the media. The Governor and her...

After hearing evidence with neither President Barack Obama nor his lawyers in attendance, a state administrative law judge on Thursday did not issue a ruling as to whether Obama can be allowed on the state ballot in November. Lawyers for area residents mounting "birther" challenges told Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi that Obama should be found in contempt of court for not appearing when under subpoena to do so. But Malihi did not indicate he would recommend that and cut off one lawyer when he criticized Obama for not attending the hearing. "It shows not just a contempt for this...

Remembering the 'King,' 34 Years Later : Elvis Presley (1935 - 1967) On Aug. 16, 1977 the music world was shocked when the King of Rock 'n Roll died at the young age of 42. It was a moment that brought the entertainment world to a standstill, when the actor, musician and singer died at his Graceland mansion. By then, Elvis had appeared in 33 films, won a Grammy Lifetime Achievment Award (at just 36 years old!) and had served his country in the U.S. Army. 34 years later after his sudden death, fans are still flocking to his Graceland...

Panama City Beach -- A cell phone camera captured the action in the Panama City Beach Burger King on Front Beach Road Saturday, as a crowd of tourists nearly rioted at the restaurant. Employees dialed 9-1-1 for help, as one bikini-clad woman, later identified as Kimesia Smith of Montgomery, Ala., jumped up on the counter and threw a charity coin jug at employees, and 3 of Smith's friends also began throwing napkins, utensils, and trays throughout the location. The woman in the bikini, who became concerned about the whereabouts of her two children after Panama City Beach Police placed her...

The home of the King of Rock 'n' Roll joined the homes of presidents past and present in becoming a National Historic Landmark Monday. Graceland, where Elvis Presley died in 1977, joins the White House, Mount Vernon and Monticello in receiving the country's highest designation for historic properties. "It would be difficult to tell the story of the 20th century without discussing the many contributions made by this legendary, iconic artist," Interior Secretary Gale Norton said during a ceremony at Presley's famous Memphis mansion. "It didn't take Americans and the rest of the world long to discover Elvis Presley," Norton...

WHEN ELVIS PRESLEY STROLLED onto the stage for his last performance, there was something different about him. His face had swelled, and his gut was pregnant with obesity. His hair and signature sideburns overran his head and face, and his movements, karate kicks, and hip swivels, were no longer crisp or energetic. He could still sing--he never lost that--and he still had a charismatic stage presence, and he could still send fans into a frenzy. But for years leading up to his death, it seemed the brightness that once shone from this superstar came more from his sequin-adorned jumpsuits than...

In the political arena youve got to keep your clothes on (most of the time), flex your brain, define your positions and share your ideas with all kinds of people, many of whom might vehemently disagree. Knowing all this, Arnold has poured himself into a brand new mold. "Hes quite a chameleon," observed one of the Kings colleagues, "and he loves a challenge." Celebrating Elvis' life 25th anniversary of the King's death is mostly parties, parades 08/16/2002 By MICHAEL PRECKER / The Dallas Morning News MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Death anniversaries tend to be somber affairs, as we remember those we loved and admired. There's no parade in Dallas on Nov. 22. Ceremonies in New York on the day John Lennon was killed, or here in Memphis on the anniversary of the Rev.
