FEMA disaster website IE-only 9/6/2005 2:37:53 PM, by Ken "Caesar" Fisher As relief workers scramble to provide comfort and succor to the thousands and thousands of people dispossessed by hurricane Katrina, tech relief efforts are hitting snags. Equipment shortages, problems accessing the Internet, and the time it takes to set up computers for refugees to use are all getting in the way of getting people help, but that's not too surprising. This is, after all, a disaster. What is surprising, however, is the fact that the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) online registration site for disaster help is Internet Explorer-only. While...

Scream Baffles Ohio Town POSTED: 6:27 pm EDT August 19, 2005 UPDATED: 10:25 am EDT August 20, 2005 LIBERTY, Ohio -- An unusual and noisy mystery has people in a small town north of Middletown on edge, worried and asking questions, News 5’s Brain Hamrick reported. Liberty, Ohio, is a quiet little community, except for one thing -- the scream. Jamie Young told Hamrick she heard it while she and her husband were walking one evening. “It scared me. I didn’t want to finish my walk,” Young said. But instead of running into her house, she said she recorded the...

'Three Stooges' Action Lands Boy in Court A 15-year-old boy who pinched and twisted the nipples of a 13-year-old has been sentenced to three days of community service for harassment. David Thumler, 15, said the "titty-twister" was just horseplay. The mother of 13-year-old Matthew Cox counters that the incident was humiliating for her son, who saw it as an assault from an older, bigger bully. "They're not friends," she said. "If he was my son's friend, it would be a different thing," said Bobby Cox. In addition to the community service, Thumler has been ordered to pay a $67...

Stepping up his attack on the state bureaucracy, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Tuesday he wants to use his budget plan to "starve the public sector" without raising taxes "because we don't want to feed the monster." In an hourlong interview with The Bee editorial board, Schwarzenegger also called a trio of Democratic constitutional officers "the Three Stooges" for criticizing his budget approach, and said legislative Democrats are focused on the "wrong things." The spending controls he has proposed and his aversion to new taxes, he added, are "not locked into eternity." "Right now, we need drastic measures," Schwarzenegger said. "We...

Just heard on John and Ken that the Bd of Supes voted (3:2) YES to the ACLU-acceptable 'compromise' -- which consists of: a 'Mission' without a cross (aka Taco Bell), Native American (stick) figures ... and the Lord only knows what else. They played a clip of Yvonne B.B. saying, "We don't have to stoop to dealing with THESE people (the pastors, rabbis, fine citizens of Los Angeles who were in the hearing room)." Which is WAY too much like 'Let them eat cake' for my liking. And Zev Y compared it to de-Segregation in the 1960s: "The citizens would...

Dewhurst: Bitter dispute behind us By Tricia Cortez Times staff writer On his second visit to Laredo as lieutenant governor, David Dewhurst made it clear Friday the bitter and contentious redistricting fights, which tore apart the genteel Texas Senate, are "behind us." He also quashed rumors that he may be considering a run for governor against Rick Perry. "I enjoy being lieutenant governor, and I will run for re-election as lieutenant governor, unless something drastic happens," Dewhurst told the editorial board of the Laredo Morning Times. "I fully expect to be re-elected," added Dewhurst, who was accompanied by state Sen....

Fourth Stooge: Unwrapping the life of the trio's comic foil By Steve Chawkins Special to The Advocate and Greenwich Time December 27, 2002 Floor-to-ceiling shelves stacked with boxes, filing cabinets packed with cross-referenced folders, rows of chronologically arranged binders: But for the movie posters on the walls, Saxon Sitka's rented office in Amarillo, Calif., looks like a corner in the fluorescent depths of a presidential library. In fact, it's a son's tribute to his departed dad: the longtime straight man for the Three Stooges. Emil Sitka died four years ago at 83. Since then, Saxon has taken charge of his...
