The weekend of October 24 was busy for TFP Student Action volunteers. Their first stop was Scranton, Penn., for a pro-life conference. Lighting the Way for Life was the title of the full-day conference sponsored by the Pennsylvanians for Human Life on October 24. The event brought together hundreds of pro-family leaders from across the Keystone State committed to defend innocent life against the culture of death. TFP Student Action members manned a booth at the event and distributed pro-family literature. What attracted most attention at the busy booth was the TFP petition urging the president of the University of...

More than 1,200 Lutherans disaffected by the recent vote favoring openly gay clergy have assembled in Indianapolis on Friday to begin creating an alternative fellowship for conservative Lutherans. "We intend to initiate a process that we hope will lead to a reconfiguration of North American Lutheranism," said Paull Spring, chair of Lutheran CORE and the retired bishop of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod. "The convocation is for all who care for the future shape of orthodox Lutheranism." Related Link: ELCA Opens Ordination to Noncelibate Homosexuals

Pelosi held a health care "roundtable" discussion with religious leaders at an Episcopal church in San Francisco on Thursday -- her second roundtable forum since the president announced plans to make health coverage more accessible to the nation's 50 million uninsured. Reid, the Senate's top Democrat, has yet to hold a traditional public town hall, but is expected to host a "tele-town hall" August 28. Assistant Majority Leader Sen. Dick Durbin, who said organized protesters were prepared to take over the town halls and "shout and shove" their way to the podium, called the public meetings a waste of his...

Roman Catholicism and Genesis A review of The Doctrines of Genesis 1–11: A Compendium and Defense of Traditional Catholic Theology on Origins by Fr Victor P. Warkulwiz The Catholic Church’s belief about Genesis 1–11 has been in a muddle for a long time—ever since uniformitarianism and evolution came on the scene. This situation is similar to Protestant churches, sadly for both liberal and conservative ones. Within the ‘traditionalist’ churches, this book is a welcome addition to the book Genesis, Creation and Early Man by the Russian Orthodox heiromonk Seraphim Rose,1 who documented that the Church fathers of Eastern Orthodoxy from...

TORONTO, June 18, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Alberta Finance Minister, Iris Evans, a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of  Alberta, has come under fire from the leader of the Liberal government after telling the Economic Club of Canada on Wednesday morning that having one parent stay at home is important for raising children well. Her comments came at the end of an address to the Club during the question period, in the context of speaking about the importance of teaching kids about finances.Referring to her own children, Minister Evans said, “They've understood perfectly well that when you're raising children, you...

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine election officials on Tuesday approved the question that would appear on the ballot if opponents of the recently enacted same-sex marriage law collect enough signatures. Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announced that the question that will appear on petitions is “Do you want to reject the new law that lets same-sex couples marry and allows individuals and religious groups to refuse to perform these marriages?” Groups seeking to overturn the law, including the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland; the Maine Family Policy Council of Maine, formerly the Christian Civic League of Maine; and Maine Marriage Initiative...

Hi you music buffs out there - this time I want your views on one of the very greatest and most singular American guitarists. John Fahey. A self-made man if there ever was one, and superbly intelligent and poetic to boot. In the 1960s he started out with a self-financed private pressing LP about a fictitious blues legend, Blind Joe Death. There were 50 or 100 copies extant, depending on whom you consult. Needless to say it's the proverbial collector's item nowadays. Then a stream of great, contemplative, adventurous albums followed, many of them accompanied by fantastic, albeit spurious personal...

At various times during the past few months, as many as 25 percent of Democrats have said they’ll vote for John McCain if Barack Obama/Hillary Rodham Clinton is not the party nominee. Some conservative Republicans have said stormily they’ll vote for the Democrat over McCain because they think he’s too liberal. After the sturm und drang of the Democratic primary season (and it will end), what can we expect for the fall election? We will see both parties running full-tilt to win the White House. The issues are simply too critical for mainstream Democrats and mainstream Republicans to 1) throw...

Catholic prelates and traditionalists from around the world are gathering at St. Madeleine du Barroux monastery in France today for the funeral of Dom Gerard Calvet, the founder of the post-Vatican II traditional Benedictine movement. Father Calvet, whose influence in contemporary Catholic traditionalism trailed only that of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, died Thursday at age 80. His health had been in sharp decline since he suffered a stroke in the late 1990s.

I was just watching a Discovery Channel program on the Three Gorges Dam Project in China. Predictable, the show lamented the loss of traditional culture among the 1,000,000 or so people in the future reservoir above the dam. In one segment, they discussed one village that would have to be moved 500 yards up-hill (to end up EXACTLY at the water's edge , as they currently are) and how they would lose their "village tree"...The loss of the slightest amount of "traditional culture" is abhorrent to all leftists, unless we are talking about "traditional American culture"; which they can't destroy...

Summorum Pontificum: my intro comments and the text CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 5:00 am Thanks to be to Pope Benedict, who has given back to the Church and the world a great gift. As one friend put it, the world has been made just a little bit safer to live in. This document is about opening hearts and healing. In his explanatory letter Pope Benedict even quotes 2 Cor 6:13: “Widen your hearts!” Read Summorum Pontificum with a wide heart, and no one need fear that rights will be trampled or due authority undermined. The Motu Proprio...

OTTAWA, MAY 23, 2007 (Zenit.org).- It is said you are what you eat, and according to a Catholic wedding dress designer, you're also what you wear. Justina McCaffrey, a haute couture designer, is a vocal promoter of the Catholic idea of the feminine genius in the fashion industry, and insists that the clothes a woman wears can reflect or deflect her dignity, especially on her wedding day. In this interview with ZENIT, McCaffrey spoke about what she thinks is wrong with the wedding industry and the understanding of the role of faith and feminine dignity in the celebration of marriage....

On Saturday, May 12th, a contingent of Traditional Catholics in San Antonio, TX perform their annual “Pilgrimage along the Mission Trail” to celebrate and remember the sacrifice and service of the original Catholic Missionaries that pioneered the Catholic Church in Texas. The near 7 mile walk starts at Mission Concepcion and end at Mission Espada. At each mission, the group would stop and say a certain devotion, whether it be the Stations of the Cross, the Rosary, or the Litany of St. Joseph. Sounds harmless, especially since the Missions received thousands of visitors a year, from all faiths, right? Wrong....

Pope Benedict XVI is giving new life to the Latin mass -- and many modern Catholics aren't happy. The other week Pope Benedict XVI phoned a few French bishops, and it wasn't to find out what they got for Christmas. According to Britain's Catholic Herald, the pope was doing a bit of old-fashioned arm-twisting in response to these bishops' very public opposition to Benedict's intention to grant Catholics more access to the pre-Vatican II rite of the Mass. On October 30, 2006, ten French bishops, including the archbishop of Strasbourg, released a letter expressing their fear that "the extension of the...

The Mass of Saint Pius V: The French Bishops Raise a Shout with the PopeThey want to maintain the right of veto against the use of the Tridentine missal. But Benedict XVI is set to liberalize it. The Road to Restoration Writing from Rome, Mgr Ignacio Barreiro updates us on recent developments in the struggle for Tradition. Based on impeccable sources he predicts that the long-prayed for universal indult will be promulgated before Christmas. Is Pope Benedict about to put his stamp on the Church once and for all? In these last months we can see a growing series of events that indicate that the Holy See is moving on a clear route of doctrinal and liturgical restoration. Without discussing the recent leadership changes in some of the main offices of the Holy See, nor the important...

Status of Women Canada should go London Free Press Wednesday, October 4, 2006 By RORY LEISHMAN In announcing plans last week to cut $1 billion in wasteful government spending, the Harper government disclosed that it will eliminate the Law Commission of Canada and the federal Court Challenges Program, while cutting spending for Status of Women Canada. These reforms are all to the good, except that the government should not just cut, but also eliminate, all funding for Status of Women Canada. All three of these bodies are holdovers from the big-spending era of the 1970s when the Trudeau Liberals...

Redefining parenthood Edmonton Sun Monday, October 2, 2006 By Mindelle Jacobs While a lesbian waits to see if she'll be recognized as the third parent of a little boy, a new report is warning that kids are being harmed by adult self-indulgence. "In the global rush to redefine parenthood, we need to call a time out," says the study, released last week by four conservative groups, including the Institute of Marriage and Family Canada. The report examines what it describes as the "global clash" between adult rights and children's needs in an age when the concept of parenthood is...

There is a slow but steady increase in appreciation for the Church’s ancient liturgy. Requests for the Traditional Latin Mass continue to grow and, much to the delight of Latin Mass devotees, some bishops now are establishing Latin Mass parishes in their dioceses. St. Gianna’s Latin Mass Community in Tucson is a stellar example. Fascinatingly, the bulk of the interest comes from young Catholics. Who would have diivined this development 35 years ago when the “old Mass” seemed destined to become passe? Recently, I received a surprising request from an unlikely place: Arizona State Prison. One of the inmates -...

The Sacrifice of Holy Mass Mass is Mass. It's perfect, whether it's celebrated in... ... the magnificent chapel at Downside Abbey with a spiritual "army" of monks, beautiful Gregorian chant and an enormous congregation... or in... an icey cold Basketball Court with only a few lay faithful... Mass is Perfect! However of course one gains nothing from having Mass in a basketball court, and can only benefit spiritually by having it in a beautiful Church, where one can better focus and concentrate in order to pray the Mass. Here's my favorite picture, not taken by me, but edited and formatted...

'Packed House' Welcomes Latin Mass to Front RoyalBy Gretchen R. Crowe HERALD Staff Writer (From the Issue of 8/10/06)The choir loft at St. John the Baptist Church in Front Royal offered the best view of the delicate black and white head coverings, the newly installed Communion rail, and the tall candles on the ornately adorned altar. Each served as a telling sign that the parish’s first Latin Mass was no ordinary eucharistic celebration. A large group of altar boys assisted Father Ed Hathaway, pastor, in celebrating the Mass last Sunday. Attending in choir were Fathers Paul deLadurantaye, director of the...

The Vatican today published a sweeping condemnation of contraception, abortion, in-vitro fertilisation and same-sex marriage, declaring that the traditional family has never been so threatened. The document was issued by the Pontifical Council for the Family, whose head, Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, is a strong opponent of the use of condoms under any circumstances. Gay activists in Italy condemned the report as a grotesque attack against modern life, freedom and social redemption. The 57-page document does not break any new ground but summarised traditional Vatican positions."Man of modern times has radicalised the tendency to take the place of God and substitute him," it...

The ringing of bells. Latin wafting high into the church rafters. Women's heads draped in lace. Most of America's girls typically don't get to celebrate Phyllis Schlafly during "Women's History Month," but they should. Mrs. Schlafly not only had the right idea when she fought the Equal Rights Amendment during the 70s, but predictions she made back then are still accurate today. February 1, 2006 From: Deacon Keith Fournier For Distribution Attached is my public statement concerning my decision to disassociate from Traditional Catholic Reflections and Reports (http://www.tcrnews2.com) over its decision to call for the impeachment of the President and certain members of his cabinet today. I wish Stephen Hand only the Lords' best as he seeks to follow his personal conscience. I strongly disagree with his position. We simply disagree - strongly - over this important...

Good Riddance to Traditional Pensions Print Mail By James K. Glassman IBM announced last week that it would freeze the old-style pension plans it provides to more than 100,000 employees and instead offer an improved version of its 401(k) plan. This is no run-of-the-mill accounting change or cut-costing measure. It is a major philosophical and economic shift for a bellwether corporation. IIt means, in short, that International Business Machines is moving away from paternalism and giving workers more control over their own retirements. The U.S. government should do the same in reforming Social Security. The IBM decision is good news...

Reports in the national press that some modern megachurches are “closing” on Christmas in order to encourage families to “have a more personal experience on that day” have shocked many traditional Christians. The Chicago Tribune first reported this phenomenon on December 6, in an article about the godfather of megachurches, Willow Creek. Other articles followed, in USA Today and other papers, chronicling the trend throughout the United States. This is nothing new for Willow Creek, and the WillowCreeking of America is evidenced by the spread of this trend. Many, many churches, including Rockford’s Heartland Community Church (which recently purchased Colonial...

Neutral crystal symbol may join traditional Red Cross emblems By Anton La Guardia, Diplomatic Editor (Filed: 20/09/2005) The Red Cross and its Islamic cousin, the Red Crescent, could soon be joined by a Red Crystal. The move is an attempt to create a neutral emblem in an age of growing religious strife, in which aid workers have been attacked and the Red Cross headquarters in Baghdad bombed. The symbol also seeks to resolve disputes that have kept some humanitarian organisations, mainly Israel's Magen David Adom, which uses the red Shield of David, outside the International Red Cross and Red Crescent...

Facts everyone NEEDS to know about the "Traditional" Latin Mass FACT: Even the neotrad “Catholic Encyclopedia” admits the Latin Mass was a radical break with tradition!
