ARMS and explosives search dog Treo has saved countless lives in Afghanistan. His handler David Heyhoe tells his story. SETTING off into the dawn sunlight, Treo and I are out front doing the lonely walk. We dog handlers say that emotions run up leash and down again. We had just lost our first soldier - killed by a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) - and Treo could sense that I wanted payback. Treo was hyper-alert and raring to go. It was a good thing. We'd been out for several days now and the Taliban would know the paths we'd use...
  • Treo 650: how to text to an international number

Before anyone jumps on me, lol yes I have read the Treo 650 user's guide, but it lacks the specificity I need. I know that in "telephone" mode, I can press and hold the 0 key, and it becomes "+," i.e. the equivalent of 011, and that I now am in international dialing mode. However, in messaging mode, in the "To:" field, I cannot get the + symbol to appear the same way. If, while in that field, I press and hold 0, all I get are a string of 0s. The T-Mobile person (I'm using the Treo with T-mobile,...
  • Can I use a Palm Treo 700w with T-Mobile service?

    07/02/2006 8:53:49 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 1 replies · 299+ views
My wife likes the Palm Treo 700w. However, we have T-Mobile service and would like to keep it if we can. Can the 700w be used with T-Mobile? I didn't see, in the 700w user manual, any references to SIM cards, and I thought that a device needed a SIM card to be able to be used with T-Mobile. What facts are important in this regard? Thanks.

The Palm OS is about to get into the fast lane. A little more than four months after Palm released the Windows Mobile-based Treo 700w on Verizon Wireless' EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) network, it is set to announce a Palm OS version that can connect to EV-DO networks, CNET has learned. The company on Monday will unveil the new model, which is expected to be called the 700p, according to sources familiar with its plans. A Palm representative declined to comment for this story. Palm enthusiast sites have been buzzing about the 700p ever since Palm broke with tradition...
  • (Vanity) Updating files for Palm Treo 700w

Recently, a company that I regularly work with upgraded their smartphones from the Palm VII and 600 series to the 700w. While this is useful for portability of work files in the field, many of their employees are having difficulty in updating their contact lists to the new devices. As the older phones (which run on Palm OS) used Palm HotSync, and the 700w (which runs on Windows Mobile) uses the seemingly completely incompatible MS ActiveSync, a quick transfer of this info via PC is not usable. Eventually, I showed some people how to beam contacts and memos individually between...
