Brett Bartlett Mauthe arrived at his Texas polling place Monday morning ready to vote. It was the first day of early voting in Bulverde, a tiny town 30 minutes north of San Antonio. On his head he wore a hat supporting GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, Mauthe told KSAT 12 News. His T-shirt read “basket of deplorables,” a reference to a comment Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton made about Trump’s supporters. Mauthe was stopped before he could cast his ballot. According to the election code, not just in Texas but in many other jurisdictions across the country, campaigning for or promoting...

A Donald Trump voter in Texas was arrested Monday for wearing a T-shirt to the polls that mocked Hillary Clinton’s infamous comment in which she said half of Trump supporters were “a basket of deplorables.” Brett Mauthe, 55, was arrested in Bulverde, Texas after wearing a pro-Trump hat, and a T-shirt saying “basket of deplorables,” according to KSAT 12. Mauthe told the outlet that while he removed the hat at the request of officials, he refused to turn his T-shirt inside out and said he was not aware that wearing it was a violation of the election code. The Texas legislature will face a major “mental health” decision when they meet this January. The question will be whether to pass a replacement law for the psychologists’ licensing statute. Their major problem will be passing something -- if they pass anything at all -- that is constitutional under the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of speech. The issue is that the freedom of speech includes the freedom to talk and listen to whomever you’d like about psychological matters -- thoughts, feelings, behavior, perceptions -- including as a paid service. Harris County led the way with over 67,000 ballots cast. “I was shocked,” Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart told Breitbart Texas Monday night. “We prepared for a large turnout by increasing polling locations and the number of machines in key locations, but we were still surprised by how many people actually came out.” Stanart said his team reacted quickly by sending additional equipment to places were poll workers were becoming inundated with voters. A Houston-area woman says a teenage cashier at a Kroger supermarket in Spring, Texas, stepped away from the cash register and refused to check out her groceries last week because she was offended by the message on the customer’s T-shirt. Retail sales in Texas boomed for five years straight, from March 2010, their low point during the Great Recession. Sales tax collections jumped 46% from the first half of 2010 through the first half of 2015 – dizzying growth for a mature market! A new report has government officials considering setting 10 million acres of across six states in the American west off limits to mining and development to protect the chicken-like Greater Sage Grouse, which is not an endangered species. The USGS report means that the government’s most restrictive grouse protection plan could kill even more than 31,000 jobs and lead to more than $5.6 billion in reduced annual economic...
