Why I Voted Democrat

I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would. I voted Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it. I voted Democrat because when we pull out of...

Officers: Memorial Used As Porta-Potty Pit Stop At Obama Rally

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland police officers have asked for an apology after they said organizers of a Barack Obama rally set up Porta-Potties on a memorial honoring fallen officers. Earlier this month, 75,000 people gathered in Waterfront Park in downtown Portland to hear Obama speak at a pre-primary rally. Officer Thomas Brennan, a seven-year veteran with the Portland Police Bureau, said he was happy to help at the rally after being called in on his day off. "On short notice, a lot of people had to cancel trips. But they were glad to do it," Brennan said. "It was very...

Rendell decides not to delay computer work on gun sales database

Associated Press HARRISBURG, Pa. --Gov. Ed Rendell, despite pressure from gun dealers, decided Tuesday not to delay a database upgrade that will halt Pennsylvania firearms sales for three days. The Democratic governor said the shutdown to allow work on the criminal history database would last one day less than previously announced. The Pennsylvania Instant Check System will be down from 6 p.m. Sunday and return to operation at 6 p.m. Sept. 5. "It is clear that there will never be an ideal time to temporarily shut down the system so we can make changes necessary to ensure the system continues...

(NY Governor) Spitzer: I don't need the legislature

Frustrated by a legislative session that left many key issues hanging, Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Tuesday that he could govern without lawmakers. Downplaying the importance of passing laws, the freshman governor said he favored regulatory changes and executive orders to run the state -- neither of which require prior approval by the legislature. The Democratic governor repeated his criticism of a decision by the Senate's Republican majority to go home June 21, the official end of the six-month session, though many bills remain to be considered.

Dingell: What's Wrong With Hezbollah?

Yesterday, Representative John Dingell of Michigan appeared on a Detroit television program along with Republican Candice Miller. They discussed the crisis in Lebanon; Dingell proclaimed himself neutral. "I don't take sides for or against Hezbollah; I don't take sides for or against Israel." Asked, "You're not against Hezbollah?" Dingell answers, "No..." Listen to it here on YouTube, or use our player below. If the Democrats win control of the House of Representatives, Dingell will be the Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Iraq Position Puts Sen. Clinton in Tough Spot

WASHINGTON — Between Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman's position that the Bush plan in Iraq is working and progress is being made and Rep. John Murtha's call for a speedy withdrawal, a vast number of differences plague Democrats about the war in Iraq. Those differences pose a serious dilemma for one Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose presidential ambitions could impact her position on Iraq. Clinton is now scrambling to recast her pro-war image in the face of growing hostility from the anti-war left. "Hillary does have an Iraq problem. Democrats hate the Iraq war and she's been pretty supportive of the...

Massive Voter Fraud in Detroit

There's no better example of that apathy or appeasement in Detroit politics than in the apparent acceptance of city Clerk Jackie Currie's continued antics. Currie has spent a lot of time in court these days defending an out-of-control city election system ripe for abuse and corruption. In recent days we've learned that Currie employs a group of 50 "ambassadors" who round up between 4,500 and 8,000 absentee ballots -- and apparently break a variety of state election laws in the process. According to media reports, Currie's assistants have secured absentee ballots from mentally incapacitated people who have no idea who's...

Ex-city official pleads guilty to bribery(chief of staff for ex-Houston mayor Lee Brown(D))

CLEVELAND -- Former Houston and Harris County official Oliver Spellman pleaded guilty today to bribery charges filed just last week, saying he accepted $2,000 to influence government contracts while serving as chief of staff to former Mayor Lee Brown. "I took money from an individual in return for favor in winning government contracts," Spellman told U.S. District Judge James Gwin of Cleveland. He said he took the bribe in July 2002. Although neither he nor the criminal information document filed last week named the person who paid the bribe, other court documents indicate it was well-connected Cleveland businessman Nate Gray....

Berger's home and office were searched earlier this year by FBI (news - web sites) agents armed with warrants.
What are other things a President "could" Do?

Ex-preident Bill Clinton now states that his reason for having an affair with Monica Lewinski was because "he could". Given this reasoning it occurs to me that there are MANY things that a President "COULD" do: Start a nuclear war Suspend constitutional rights Incinerate a church full of innocent children in Waco, Texas

Linda Ronstadt: Impeach Bush 'Right Away'

1970's songbird Linda Ronstadt, best known for her torch song-style and mellow ballads, is working overtime these days trying to persuade her fellow Arizonans that it's time to dump President Bush "right away." In an interview broadcast on Saturday, Ronstadt was in the middle of explaining to WABC Radio's Mark Simone why she prefers living in Arizona to Los Angeles or New York, when she added one caveat. "The politics are very conservative here and I'm not conservative. I'm having a hard time sometimes convincing people that we need to vote for a new president," she offered. When Simone begged...
