  • Bible Publisher not a 'religious employer'

The Obama administration is claiming that a dedicated Christian publisher of Bibles and ministry material is insufficiently religious to qualify for an exemption to the contraception mandate in the president’s health-care overhaul. According to a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday in the District of Columbia by Tyndale House Publishers, the company has been refused a “religious employer” exemption because the Health and Human Services Department categorically maintains that any for-profit publisher is not a “religious employer.” The Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing Tyndale, called the rule an unconstitutional and arbitrary threat to religious freedom.

We've written plenty about how the US government has been quite aggressive in spying on Americans. It has been helped along by a court system that doesn't seem particularly concerned about the 4th Amendment and by the growing ability of private companies to have our data and to then share it with the government at will. Either way, in a radio interview, Wall Street Journal reporter Julia Angwin (who's been one of the best at covering the surveillance state in the US) made a simple observation that puts much of this into context: the US surveillance regime has more data...

Suburbanites of Ohio, listen up. As swing voters in the ultimate swing state, you will have an outsized impact on this election. President Obama has pledged to govern in the interests of middle-class voters like you. With so much resting on your shoulders, that is a promise you should scrutinize with care. What exactly are Obama’s plans for Ohio’s suburban communities? The answer may shock you. President Obama aims to help Ohio’s Democrats bail out your state’s struggling cities by forcibly transferring suburban tax money to urban treasuries. It’s a bold plan to redistribute the wealth of Ohio’s suburbs. It...

In this video, the future Chairman Obama yapped about a lot of things, from accusing the US government of letting black folks suffer during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to how wonderful Jew hater Jeremiah Wright is. Suspicion about the federal government's September jobs report has fallen on Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, who appeared on CNBC this morning and defended the numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), claiming--falsely--that upward revisions of 86,000 jobs were from the private sector. In fact, the new number is entirely accounted for by upwards revisions to state and federal government payrolls. The BLS reported that while only 114,000 jobs were created in September--which would have translated into a rise in unemployment from 8.1% to 8.2%--the unemployment rate fell dramatically to 7.8%. That unusual drop is the fastest in nearly...

The Cleveland Clinic is owned by doctors. But thanks to Obamacare it's illegal for doctors to own hospitals. Section 6001 of the health care law effectively bans new physician-owned hospitals (POHs) from starting up, and it keeps existing ones from expanding. It has already halted the development of 24 new physician-owned hospitals and forced an additional 47 to struggle to meet the deadline to complete construction, according to the Physician Hospitals of America (PHA). You couldn't build the Cleveland Clinic today if you wanted to.

President Barack Obama made a major gaffe when he recently said that we are owned, or "belong to", government. In the United States the government is supposed to "belong to" the people instead of the other way around as he suggests. We the people are supposed to own the government and tell it what to do. Obama and other elitists believe that government exists to control our personal lives and even tell us how much we can eat or drink. Some government controls are necessary to prevent people from harming others. Government needs to restrict sale of some substances that...

It portrays an effort that ballooned far beyond anyone's ability to control. What began as an attempt to put local, state and federal officials in the same room analyzing the same intelligence has instead cost huge amounts of money for data-mining software, flat screen televisions and, in Arizona, two fully equipped Chevrolet Tahoes that are used for commuting, investigators found. WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional budget analysts are now estimating that nearly 6 million Americans — most of them in the middle class — will have to pay a tax penalty for not getting health insurance once President Barack Obama's health care law is fully in place.

A growing chorus of conservatives are telling Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney that he must immediately make changes to his campaign or he will lose. “The decision not to define Romney, but to attack Obama over the spring and summer was a huge, strategic mistake,” a Republican strategist with knowledge of the inner-workings of the campaign told The Daily Caller in an interview. “The assumption that the race for presidential election defaults in a bad economy to the challenger is wrong.” But aside from the recent spate in hiccups that give the media and the Democrats reason to hammer Romney...

Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R., Wis.) has a post on the Hill’s Congress Blog highlighting a bizarre new regulation from the EPA requiring some gas stations to sell at least four gallons of gasoline at a time. It affects those that pump both E10 and E15 (gas with 10 percent or 15 percent ethanol) through the same hose. Since E15 is pretty terrible for small engines and old cars (Sensenbrenner says it’s “like metal in a microwave for a small engine”), the theory is that when customers whose engines cannot handle it are buying gas,

The latest mandate handed down from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is so ridiculous, even I was shocked. The EPA has now mandated how much gasoline you must buy at certain gas stations. Say hello to the Obama Administration’s four gallon minimum.

We know America is in big trouble when power corrupted law enforcement and California’s liberal state legislature ban together to createnew laws that regulate, pre-punish, and harass law abiding gun owners. In the name of safety and protection, lawmakers being obsessedwith violating our rights and beating up the Constitution bloody, feed into thebig government ways of today. They fail to realize, however, that the Constitution is meant to protect individual, God-given rights; it does not say big government can violate our rights, and do whatever they want. This all started with a 2011 California law (AB 109) that bans open...

New York City has two endangered species: Soda and babies. Unfortunately the city cares more about the soft drink than the human life Last week the city passed a measure that would make a large Coke at McDonald’s illegal but it’s still legal to kill 40% of the pre-born babies in the same city. Need a visual? This is illegal: This is legal: New York City has an abortion rate almost double of the national average of 23%–and even higher in some demographics. In the city, more African-American babies are killed than are born. A recent report shows the city’s...

In 1933, at the height of the bleakness and desperation of the Depression, MGM released this genuine curiosity piece -- directed by comedy (!) director Gregory La Cava -- concerning a Warren G. Harding-like partisan hand-shaker President of the United States who, after seeing a vision, revokes the Constitution, becomes a reigning dictator, and solves all of the nation's problems. Walter Huston plays Judson Hammond, recently elected President of the United States, who treats his elected office as a joke and acts as a dispenser of Party favors. But after an automobile accident, he sees the Archangel Gabriel, who inspires...

PRELUDE TO THE END OF AMERICA I never thought I would see the day that Liberty itself was crucified on the altar of political correctness; but I can now see the outline of the cross on the horizon: On a day when Egypt is appeasing its mob by issuing arrest warrants for the people responsible for the film (a capital offense there, do note), this is what’s running in the biggest paper in Los Angeles. Turns out the author, Sarah Chayes, is a former assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which is no surprise. As Matt...

That was quick… Less than an hour ago Drudge posted video of Barack Obama telling an audience in 1998 that he believes in redistribution of wealth. Mitt Romney was just on Your World with Cavuto and hammered the president over this shocking admission. “He wants redistribution of wealth. I disagree.” (video) Mitt Romney on Barack Obama: “Frankly we have two very different views about America. The president’s view is one of a larger government. There’s a tape that just came out today where the president is saying he likes redistribution. I disagree. I think a society based upon a government-centered...

New York City has sealed the deal: The New York City Board of Health voted to approve Mayor Bloomberg’s ban on large-size sodas. Starting March 12th, 2013, New Yorkers will have to look outside the Big Apple of get many soft drinks that are larger than 16 ounces. This ban is the first of its kind in the country and is another wrong-headed crusade in the war against obesity. Clint Eastwood says he doesn't really care about the people who ripped his impromptu "chair" speech at the Republican National Convention, saying he was just expressing his feelings. Eastwood appeared on "Good Morning America" this morning and the 82-year-old explained one of the reasons he didn't want to give a traditional speech off a teleprompter that night is because "I didn't have my glasses with me ... so I wouldn't have been able to read it." Instead, he explained: "So then I’m just sitting there and the guy says, ‘You wanna sit down?’ and I said ‘No, but put that...
