Five people were shot at a bus stop in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side. Police said a group of people were waiting at the bus stop near West 71st and South State streets just after 8 p.m. Wednesday when several people ran up to them and opened fire. They fled in a getaway vehicle.

Hoping to prove a point about the ease of buying guns online, a Tennessee lawmaker brought a newly purchased assault rifle to work Wednesday. Rep. Mike Stewart said he found the AR-15 style weapon online Tuesday and picked it up in a restaurant parking lot without submitting to a background check, according to The Tennessean.
  • NYT Opinion: Register All Guns, License All Gun Owners

02/25/2016 4:17:12 PM PST · by Red in Blue PA · 74 replies
On February 24 New York Times op-ed contributors Abner Mikva and Lawrence Rosenthal argued that it is time to register all guns and license all gun owners; background checks are not enough. Moreover, the authors suggested such licensing and registration would not violate the Second Amendment. According to the NYT op-ed, background checks are not sufficient, there are too many ways to go around them. “A more effective system would require everyone who owns or acquires a gun to register it.” And a second component to this “effective system” would be a licensing requirement for all persons who wish to...
  • Universal background checks have already been tried

As President Obama plans to pass new gun-control measures by executive order to extend the reach of background checks to all private sales, you may be wondering why there is such opposition to requiring all private-party gun sales to go through the same background check that gun dealers do. Evidence should drive public policy, not hope. If a policy has been tried, has it produced the desired results? This may be a surprise, but many states already have mandatory background checks for all firearm transfers, or for all handgun transfers; it is already a federal crime to transfer guns to...

Thursday, September 10th, the Moms Demand Action organization, held a rally in Phoenix. A little over 20 people showed up. At least three people present were Second Amendment supporters. Two of the Second Amendment supporters carried large signs that made the rally appear to be in support of the Second Amendment. Dr. Peter Steinmetz was one of the Second Amendment supporters that was present. He reports: One of the leaders initially asked us respectfully, to please go across the street and demonstrate there. I noted that this appeared to be a public street and that we were there to support...

Virginia Democrat Patrick A. Hope boasts that he is using the Virgina incident to push for universal background checks (UBC), a precursor to gun registration, not because it would have prevented the crime, but because it is the gun control he can pass. Patrick Hope is a Virginia Democrat Assembly member. From "I chose background checks, not because it would have prevented (the Virginia shooting) but because this would be easiest to pass,'' Hope said. "We will not be able to prevent every single incident. We need to do something.'' The irrationality of the position was...

  • Florida is now an official target for UBC. Shannon Watts lets it slip.

Bill was able to get a screen capture before Shannon came to her senses and deleted the Tweet. Florida is truly hated by the Antis. We got the Concealed Carry avalanche started and we did not make any friends by re-instituting Stand Your ground and a slew of other Pro-Second Amendment bills. If we could be erased from the map while keeping DisneyWorld, they would have done so already.

Former congresswoman Gabby Giffords op-ed piece is getting a lot of praise on Twitter. This is the part of the piece that caught our attention: What they will do is create one fair system for all gun buyers, instead of the giant loophole we have now. Right now, we have one system where responsible gun owners take a background check And then we have a second system for those who dont want to take a background check. Those people criminals, or people suffering from mental illness, like the young man who shot me can buy as many...
  • ATF Seeks 'Massive' Database of Personal Info: 'Assets, Relatives, Associates and More'

    04/06/2013 6:25:16 PM PDT · by Perdogg · 40 replies
A recent solicitation from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) reveals that the agency is seeking a "massive" online database capable of pulling up individuals' personal information, connections and associates. On March 28, ATF posted the notice on, entitled "Investigative System." The solicitation was updated on April 5 with a few minor changes. The document says that the system will be utilized by staff "to provide rapid searches on various entities for example; names, telephone numbers, utility data and reverse phone look-ups, as a means to assist with investigations, and background research on people, assets and businesses."

The lamestream media told you: It's only reasonable, and studies show the overwhelming majority of Americans support universal background checks. We're not talking about registering guns. The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that: How soon we forget. When the NICS computer was built and turned on by attorney general Janet Reno, in compliance with the Brady bill in 1994, she announced that the system not only would not erase records immediately after a gun-buyer background check as required by law, it could NOT erase records at all. She said it with a straight face, to Congress. The Justice Dept. under Bill...
  • The Totalitarianism Of Universal Background Checks

Finally, some sanity, and from a somewhat unexpected source. The ACLU is concerned about the civil liberties implications of the new Harry Reid Senate bill to establish so-called universal background checks for firearms purchases. The organization has tended toward silence on gun rights, but at least now it recognizes aspects of the problem with this terrible proposal. Ever since Sandy Hook, the Obama administration and its progressive choir have demanded a new Assault Weapons Ban (AWB). Now it looks like that plan is toast. California Senator Dianne Feinstein blames gun owners and the NRA, and in a sense we should...

Universal background checks for gun purchases are an attempt to address a legitimate problem: It really is easy for criminals to get guns, and it really is hard to prosecute those who sell guns to criminals. While licensed gun dealers are required to perform background checks and maintain records, private citizens may sell their guns without so much as asking a question. To prosecute a citizen for an illegal sale, the government must prove that the citizen knowingly gave a gun to a criminal or bought a gun for the sole purpose of transferring it to another party. In surveys,...

METRO VANCOUVER - A West Vancouver man who stabbed a friend to death outside the Hollyburn Country Club five years ago will return to law school at the University of British Columbia this fall while out on day parole. Sasan Ansari, 32, was convicted in November 2008 of manslaughter in the killing of Josh Goos, who was stabbed 33 times outside the upscale club. Ansari served two years in jail before he was let out on day parole in January of this year. This month, the National Parole Board decided to extend Ansari's parole by another six months, noting he...
