Now is the Time to Shut Up Robin Mullins Boyd The complete and utter devastation of the Gulf Coast from Hurricane Katrina breaks my heart. Every picture of the damage, every picture of the victims rips at my soul. My heart tells me that the flattened cities are just scenes from a movie, while my brain tells me that the Gulf Coast will never be the same. In spite of the mass of suffering humanity, some have decided to use this fierce attack from Mother Nature as another excuse to blame President Bush, the Republicans or even the United States....

... The anger directed at Cindy Sheehan is not unprovoked, but it is misdirected. She is a woman consumed by her quest, and that is tragic, and nothing else. Rage should be directed at the grief pimps who exploit this woman’s pain for all it’s worth; those who view her as more ratings, or another arrow in their quiver to send against the President. It should be directed at those members of DailyKos, perhaps the largest left-wing blog, who believe that her son should not be referred to by name, that "theatre professionals at the Sheenan vigil… should arrange things...

TATP is suicide bombers' weapon of choiceBy Philippe Naughton, Times Online In the occupied Palestinian territories, you can tell who the 'engineers' are: they are the ones covered in burn marks who might be missing fingers, or even a whole hand. The engineers are the bomb-makers for the young suicide bombers sent to kill Israelis by the Islamic militant organisations such as Hamas. And their explosive of choice, triacetone triperoxide or TATP - named today as an explosive used in last week's London bombings - is the reason for their disfigurement. TATP's base ingredients - drain cleaner, bleach and acetone...

Four pathetic young bombersAlice MilesIt is difficult for Londoners to return to normal life when the events of July 7 have been so glamorised NOW THE real shock. The first suicide bombing to occur in Western Europe — and not one, but four of them. This takes terror in Britain into a new dimension. And yet, my instinct is the same as it was before learning that these were not just “ordinary” bombers, but suicides. And the instinct is even stronger now: do not glamorise them. I see four pathetic young men, feeble manifestations of confused masculinity, too spineless to...

Our area takes great pride in the role many organizations and residents here played in the Underground Railroad during the years leading up to the Civil War. Thousands of slaves were freed because of the courage of individuals who either housed fugitive slaves or went south to escort them to freedom here in the north. It is a heritage we can be proud of. Today, there is a similar effort underway. It is happening in a land divided along lines of north and south. Race is a component. Other nations are involved. North Korea's missionary position By Andrei Lankov SEOUL - Churches are opening in North Korea, a country long known for its hostility to any religion, and especially Protestantism. But it is not the handful of officially sanctioned churches that are interesting so much as reports of a revival of the North's "catacomb church". Given the privation and suffering in North Korea, it's not surprising that the masses would find solace in the opiate of the people. North Korean defectors to South Korea recently were asked about the fate of those escapees who were apprehended in China and sent back for...

Although the controversy over University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill’s pro-terrorist ravings has captured national headlines recently, the flirtation between America’s institutions of higher learning and radical, left-wing activism is hardly a new phenomenon. U.S. colleges and universities are rife with Marxist holdouts like Churchill and other relics from the Sixties. And while many, like Churchill, have openly supported America’s terrorist enemies, a dubious few have actually held prominent positions in terrorist groups. One of the most notable examples of this disturbing phenomenon is Bernardine Dohrn, an Associate Professor and the Director of the Children and Family Justice Clinic at...

Adventure stories involving the exploration of the interior of Planet Earth have a long and distinguished history in science fiction. Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) was perhaps the first such tale. Despite the title, the story involves explorers following the instructions of a 17th century runic message on a trip that descends into the crater of an Icelandic volcano and into a long tunnel connecting to a vast cave containing a conveniently phosphorescent ceiling, an ocean, islands, dinosaurs, and mastodons, all in the interior of the Earth some miles beneath the surface. AMERICA HAS TWO ECONOMIES, and one is flourishing at the expense of the other. First, there's the legitimate economy, in which craftsmen are licensed and employers and employees pay taxes. Then there's the fast-growing underground economy, where millions of nannies, construction workers and others are paid off-the-books, their incomes largely untaxed. The best guess as to the size of the output of this shadow economy is about $970 billion, or nearly 9% that of the real economy. It should soon pass $1 trillion. What is largely fueling the underground economy, experts say, is the nation's swelling ranks of low-wage illegal...

Tunnels under Cusco Early chroniclers reported that by far the greatest amount of treasure in Cusco was in the Sun Temple (Koricancha). However, it disappeared before the conquistadors could get hold of it and melt it down. Despite the use of various forms of persuasion, the Spanish never found this horde. A team of investigators from Spain, using modern technology of radar and software producing 3D images, have suggested that there are tunnels connecting the former Incan temples (over which colonial churches were built) to Sacsahuaman. They have discovered the existence of huge tunnels over 5 metres deep under the...

So, I was just over in DUmmieLand to see if their "Forum Lurker Ban" has been lifted. It's not, but on their front page they had this to say... I ended up ROFLMAO!!! :) enjoy... ---SNIP--- This is a pretty diverse group of people, and it's clear that people are going to deal with this election defeat in different ways. Some members are going to come to DU looking for a shoulder to cry on. Others are going to come here looking for a fight. Still others may have completely different feelings entirely. We believe that it is understandible and...

Anyone know what's going on Democrat Underground? They've seemed to shut their forums from unregistered users due to "bandwidth" concerns. I am not convinced.
  • "Progressives" - What are the DUer's thinking?

ok, I've been over at the DU for a while just to see what the mood is over there, and I'm seeing thread after thread either (1) calling for anarchy and protests... or (2) abandoning the democratic party and moving forward with their "Progressive" plans.... Now, forgive me if I'm wrong.... but isn't the word "Progressive" usually used by underground communists back during the Red Scare era? Are these guys serious?!

Florida and Ohio are clearly going to Bush, but for some reason the Media chattering glasses are unwilling to call them. You should see the forums at Democratic Underground - total emotional meltdown. Maybe when they see how many people are behind Bush, they will realize that their blind faith in Kerry and unfounded hatred for Bush is just not warranted. For those of us who were alive during Reagan years, the media treatment of Bush is all to familiar. GOOOO BUSH!!!!

The poll titled "Last chance poll: Who gets your vote?" shows that 236 FR members have cast 2,393 votes for John F. Kerry. Since FR apparently has the ability to determine which members have voted for John Kerry, it would seem like FR administrators now have the ability to determine which members are trolls.

Just lurked over to DU for a spell and have noticed a general lack of optimism and a feeling of defeat. I think that as the polls being to clarify, they are sensing the political end is near for Kerry. In addition to the overall gloom, I notice them lashing out at themselves and their parties incompetence at winning the Whitehouse. It seems that they cannot understand why some many people love the USA and hate socialism. Oh well… too bad!
