Comrade Labor Czar Andy Stern will force America to “Shut up and Line up.”

When we’re finally done with Obama his “Czar System” circumventing the constitutional confirmation process will stand out. Since he has a Czar for everything, count on a Labor Czar who will be his enforcer. Andy Stern, President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) will be Labor Czar. He’ll direct Obama’s ACORN brown shirts and intimidate workers into surrendering to Card Check and nobody will be able to stop them. Who is Commissar Stern? Stern’s a favorite son of the Democratic Socialists of America, whose name spells out its aims. Stern’s SEIU is ruthlessly lawless. More than 3820 Unfair Labor...

City payroll sees big gains in high-income earners ( San Diego )

San Diego city employees earning at least $100,000 are the fastest-growing income group on the payroll... About 13 percent of city employees exceeded the six-figure mark in pay last year, when salary, overtime and add-on pay for reasons such as bilingual skills were included. That's up from 4 percent in 2003, and 7 percent since Mayor Jerry Sanders was elected in 2005. While this highest-paid group is growing, the proportion of middle-income earners is shrinking and the lowest-paid segment is basically flat. For many in San Diego, the conventional wisdom of government work being synonymous with low pay and high...

email from VEA Teacher's Union on McDonnell vs. Deeds (BARF ALERT)

June 25, 2009 Dear xxxxxx, As we decide which gubernatorial candidate to support, the fact that Deeds and McDonnell have voting records is significant. Kaine, having come to the Mansion by the way of local government, had no state level voting record to back his words. Deeds and McDonnell have shown their true stripes as they have voted over many years and many session in the Virginia General Assembly. The VEA Fund (formerly known as VEA-PAC) has not recommended a candidate, so I find myself in the delightful position of being able to discuss the positions the candidates are taking...

Fehr's legacy: More money, less ethics

Maybe the best way to explain Donald Fehr is that he was very good, maybe even too good, at his job. It's just that he could not or would not grasp what his job could have and should have been. If the union chief's sole responsibility was to pump up player salaries, then the brilliant and quick-witted Fehr was a smashing success. Clearly, that is how he evaluated himself. The fact that his own income was tied directly to the average player's salary may have had something to do with his point of view. But if the head of the...

Are you a 'Healthcare Worker' By Taking Care of Your Own Son?

I suppose, strictly speaking, if you are a mother that takes care of a developmentally disabled son, well, I guess you might be considered a "healthcare worker" of a kind. Also, I could easily see the state being such a buttinski that it forces such a mother to get "training" to take care of her own son in order to receive state aid. That seems just the sort of twisted logic that might be employed by the nanny state(s) under which we suffer.
Looking For The Union Label On Your American-Built Car?

We've found a snazzy interactive map that shows the location of the plant at every American-built car and light truck is assembled, along with information on that plant's unionization or lack thereof. The New York Times piece also lists the nation of origin for each vehicle's engine and transmission, and the overall effect is to provide tirade ammunition for both ends of the political spectrum. For example, if you know that unions (and the hand-wringin', gun-confiscatin', Kyoto-treaty-signin' parlor-pink liberals who enable them) have systematically destroyed everything that was once good and true about this country, you'll be able to point...

Without unionized labor on board, solar developers can expect a whole bunch of delays. If green collar jobs are really going to revive the nation's manufacturing sector, as hoped, unions don't want to get shafted. So they are doing all they can to make sure any big solar installations are built with union labor: NYT: When a company called Ausra filed plans for a big solar power plant in California, it was deluged with demands from a union group that it study the effect on creatures like the short-nosed kangaroo rat and the ferruginous hawk.
Boston Globe union rejects contract offer

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- The largest union representing employees of the Boston Globe narrowly rejected management's final contract offer Monday, possibly setting the stage for the closure of the embattled newspaper. Parent New York Times Co. /quotes/comstock/13*!nyt/quotes/nls/nyt (NYT 6.34, -0.15, -2.31%) threatened earlier this year to shut down the Globe unless it could get $20 million in concessions from the paper's unions. Last month, the Boston Newspaper Guild and the Globe had reached a tentative deal that on a proposal that included a substantial pay cut, unpaid furloughs, and modifications to the lifetime job guarantee provisions that protect almost 200 employees....

The Boston Globe’s biggest union last night refused to bow to contract concessions demanded by its New York corporate masters in a high-risk slap that dares management to make good on threats to impose a 23-percent pay cut or even shutter the struggling broadsheet. It was a close vote but the Boston Newspaper Guild rejected the company’s contract proposal by a vote of 277-265. Guild members dared management to impose a draconian 23 percent pay cut rather than accepting the company’s 8.4 percent salary cut and drastically reduced benefits.

Another Example of Central Planning Failure

I find it particularly amusing when liberals proclaim the end of capitalism by their self-righteous actions of micromanaging companies they plan to make the centerpiece of their social responsibility. Of course, since I am not directly affected as an employee or investor, my sense of humor might be lost those who are being manipulated for the so-called benefit of society. Chrysler has become the liberal showcase of what they can do when their “superior intellect” is employed. In Chrysler we have fascism, environmentalism, unionism and redistribution of wealth all mixed into one big bubbling pot of failure. While I do...

He said he would not change his opposition to card-check, to which I replied: “Snort.” On May 5, Specter met with the corruptocrats at the SEIU and another union has launched ads pressuring the...

Furlough fever is spreading to the Chicago Park District. One week after Mayor Daley ordered 3,600 non-union city employees to take 14 unpaid days off, Park District Superintendent Tim Mitchell upped the ante-by asking 1,700 park employees to take 16 furlough days. Mitchell said the unpaid days are needed to erase a potential $14 million shortfall in his $400 million 2010 budget caused by a precipitous drop in corporate income tax revenues. Mitchell claimed union leaders have been “pretty receptive” to the demand, adding, “They’ve heard from their rank-and-file that it’s important to keep people employed and have health insurance...
