You'll learn to like it. That's the message from White House advisers and Democratic lawmakers to Americans opposed to the health insurance overhaul signed into law last week. And they're willing to wager that come November, Americans will have done just that. "As people learn what's actually in the bill, that six months from now, by election time, this is going to be a plus because the parade of horribles, particularly the worry that the average middle class person has that this is going to affect them negatively, will have vanished and they'll see that it'll affect them positively in...

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy. You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12. BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast. That so many conservatives can’t see...

Don't read their lips when California's Republican lawmakers say 'no new taxes' – they've put it in writing, signed their names, essentially inviting their own party to oust them if they renege. Every GOP lawmaker except Fair Oaks Assemblyman Roger Niello has signed the "Taxpayer Protection Pledge" this year, casting a shadow on budget talks by making any vote to raise taxes a potential career killer. "If you break the pledge, the people who voted for you will say, 'Excuse me, not only did you raise my taxes but you lied to me,' " said Grover Norquist, president of Americans...

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The New York City Board of Health voted unanimously Tuesday to require all city chain restaurants to post calorie data on their menus. Chain restaurants already must make the calorie counts of their menu items publicly available, but beginning March 31 they will have to put the numbers on menu boards and menus. The change will affect restaurants with 15 or more outlets -- roughly 10 percent of all city restaurants, according to a news release from the city's health department.

BALTIMORE, June 15 (UPI) -- A simple blood test may eventually replace the dreaded and highly invasive colonoscopy for detecting colon cancer, say U.S. researchers. A team at Johns Hopkins Medical Center say they have discovered proteins in blood that appear to be accurate predictors of the disease, as well as precancerous polyps. The proteins are CCSA-3 and CCSA-4 and the researchers said they have the potential to be used in a blood test to pinpoint people at high risk for colon cancer. "The reality is that many people are not getting regular screening colonoscopies," says researcher Robert Getzenberg. "So,...

BOSTON, March 27 (UPI) -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia startled reporters in Boston just minutes after attending a mass, by flipping a middle finger to his critics. A Boston Herald reporter asked the 70-year-old conservative Roman Catholic if he faces much questioning over impartiality when it comes to issues separating church and state. "You know what I say to those people?" Scalia replied, making the obscene gesture and explaining "That's Sicilian." The 20-year veteran of the high court was caught making the gesture by a photographer with The Pilot, the Archdiocese of Boston's newspaper. "Don't publish that," Scalia...

Several pieces of evidence have popped up regarding the United States government creating H.I.V. The Irate Cinema Underground has put together a short film to introduce this topic to people and create a dialogue that will pressure the government to release documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act that relate to this theory. The ever-colorful Teresa Heinz Kerry, whose ``shove it'' comment to a journalist made headlines earlier this year, says some of the words she chooses may be inappropriate because English is her second language. ``My intent and my expression is real, but the actual use of the words may be out of place,'' she said on the daytime talk show ``The View.'' Heinz Kerry is a native of Mozambique, where Portuguese is the official language. But the potential first lady said she does not regret anything she's said this campaign season. ``I have not said very much at all except people...

Posting this belatedly, but toward the close of the show when discussing the NJ decision, Novak half-jokingly proposed that since Fisher is so far behind in the Pennsylvania Governor's polls, maybe Governor Schweiker, who has turned out to be somewhat of a hero after the Pennsylvania mine situation, should replace Fisher on the ballot.
