As Las Vegas police continue to search for a motive behind the deadliest mass shooting in American history, details continue to surface about the past of the 64-year-old shooting suspect. A spokesperson for the Office of Personnel Management told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Stephen Paddock worked as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service in its auditing department and was also a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. The spokesperson said Paddock worked as a mailman for the USPS for two years from 1976-1978 and then worked for the IRS for six years until 1984. After that,...

The United States Postal Service violated federal law by letting employees do union-funded work for Hillary Clinton's campaign and other Democratic candidates while on leave from the agency, according to an Office of Special Counsel report obtained by Fox News. The OSC determined the USPS "engaged in systemic violations" of the Hatch Act, a federal law that limits certain political activities of federal employees. While employees are allowed to do some political work on leave, the report said the Postal Service showed a "bias" favoring the union's 2016 campaign operation. The investigation was launched months ago after Senate Committee on...

A Citigroup analysis finds each box gets a $1.46 subsidy. It’s like a gift card from Uncle Sam. In my neighborhood, I frequently walk past “shop local” signs in the windows of struggling stores. Yet I don’t feel guilty ordering most of my family’s household goods on Amazon. In a world of fair competition, there will be winners and losers. But when a mail truck pulls up filled to the top with Amazon boxes for my neighbors and me, I do feel some guilt. Like many close observers of the shipping business, I know a secret about the federal government’s...
  • Postal Service, citing losses, seeks higher stamp prices

    05/10/2017 10:32:36 AM PDT · by LouAvul · 37 replies
The U.S. Postal Service is hoping it can soon raise stamp prices by a penny or more. The postal service on Wednesday reported a quarterly loss of $562 million, despite growth in package delivery, due to continued erosion in the use of first-class mail as well as expensive mandates for its retiree health care obligations. It also attributed losses to a forced reduction in stamp prices last year. The postal service is generally barred under federal law from raising prices more than the rate of inflation. But it is seeking greater regulatory leeway to increase prices, including a one-cent rate...

USPS uses "thermochromic" ink for first time. Struggling at a time when more people write emails than drop letters in the mailbox, or pay their bills online instead of licking a stamp to send in the check, the United States Postal Service has been trying all sorts of ways to keep the postage stamp alive. The latest innovation is a first-of-its-kind stamp that changes when you touch it.The Postal Service announced the upcoming issue of its Total Solar Eclipse Forever stamp, which commemorates the August 21 eclipse. The stamp transforms into an image of the Moon from the heat...

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it possesses a “limited amount” of 9mm bullets for agents in the field as well as for training purposes, and it is rationing its ammunition based on internal requests until it can award a new contract. [ ] The apparent role poor planning, or another agenda, played in the issue came to light when ICE said it would have run out of 9mm ammo by June 2017 in the absence of a modified contract with its supplier, Vista Outdoor Inc. So, the agency last month approved a $363,307 ceiling increase to contract No. HSCEMS-11-D-00002....

Postal worker Iesha Conley was allegedly caught rifling through the mail to steal Christmastime gift cards — but not before using one she stole months earlier to buy discount sex toys online, federal authorities charged. Conley, 48, came under investigation when a West Nyack woman reported that she’d sent a $100 American Express gift card to a relative in Floral Park Long Island, but when the letter arrived it had been opened and the gift card was missing. When the woman called American Express, she was told an individual had used it to buy three adult sex toys with it...

Amazon has yet to respond to our questions about its delivery methods, and what it'll do to prevent this from happening againLinda McSweeney spent weeks hoping to find the perfect gift for her daughter's 13th birthday. "I was pretty excited about it," she said. Like many teenage girls, her daughter has a new-found passion for nail care. When mom found a kit online, she knew it'd be a big hit. "It wasn't available in stores, so I had been looking for a while and the ratings were good," McSweeney said. "So I purchased it from Amazon." Just in time for...

Despite a packed legislative agenda and shortened calendar, postal reform legislation has advanced in Congress. Both of the Senate bills shepherded by Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., have stalled, but the “Postal Service Reform Act of 2016” passed unanimously through the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform barely a month after it was introduced. The legislation, offered by Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, Ranking Member Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and others, includes a variety of measures members hope will shore up the Postal Service’s financial position. Unfortunately, the legislation fails to address either the financial situation or the need for the Postal Service...

Wow. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the photo of Hillary carrying a USPS crate which clearly warns of criminal penalty for public use. I think her actions reflect her poor judgment not merely because she is in possession of property stolen from the USPS, BUT THAT SHE DID NOT CARE ABOUT THE OPTICS OF CARRYING WHAT IS CLEARLY MARKED AS STOLEN PROPERTY!! Due to copyright issues I've not posted the photo here but it can be viewed within the following link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3682689/Bill-Clinton-dons-blue-suede-shoes-walk-family-dogs-Masie-Tally-New-York-Hillary-visits-daughter-Chelsea-10-5million-condo.html
