Mr. and Mrs. Menotti celebrated Valentine’s Day 70 times Pietro Menotti stood on a ship’s deck among throngs of weary, penniless immigrants like himself. Staring into the haze of a hot summer day, he saw the first of two women who would determine the course of his life. She was the mighty lady with a torch whose message to foreign lands had attracted millions: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Thank you, Maryland legislature. Your stupidity revived a post I wanted to write a year ago that got overtaken by some much bigger events in 2016. But now thanks to two Maryland Representatives the idiocy of "Affirmative Consent" (AC), aka: The "Yes Means Yes" Law has made its triumphant return. What is that law, you say? Something this stupid must have originated from our Venezuela-in-training state of California! via Robert Stacy McCain: The new law requires a verbal “yes” at every stage of intimacy, right? Now, let us imagine the situation in which a student says “yes” to X, then...

For many, February 14th has evolved to be the antithesis of romance, a day where a 50 per cent mark-up on a bunch of wilting red roses has become par for the course. Roll back the centuries though and wooing was an altogether more authentic affair. A set of Victorian Valentine's Day cards - including beautifully ornate designs in paper and cloth - show just how our 19th century counterparts won the hearts of their paramours.
  • Hating Valentine's

Yesterday, February 14, was Valentine’s Day, the sacred day that intimate companions mark to celebrate their love and affection for one another. If you’re thinking about making a study of how couples celebrate this day, the Muslim world and the milieus of the radical Left are not the places you should be spending your time. Indeed, it’s pretty hard to outdo jihadists and “progressives” when it comes to the hatred of Valentine’s Day. And this hatred is precisely the territory on which the contemporary romance between the Left and Islamic fanaticism is formed.

So, with that said, let's work our way toward picking up some silly... BAD PICK UP LINES Hey I'm looking for treasure, Can I look around your chest? You may fall from the sky, you may fall from a tree, but the best way to fall... is in love with me. Can I tie your shoe? Because I can't have you fall for anyone else. I want our love to be like pi, irrational and never ending. I need some answers for my math homework. Quick. What's your number? If you stood in front of a mirror and held up...

Because of the cult of multiculturalism and Islamic immigration, kids in the Bruce Vento Elementary School in St. Paul, Minnesota will not be having Valentines day anymore. The school is also thinking of doing away with Thanksgiving and Christmas. We must not upset the sensitivities of our new Muslim neighbors. There is a discussion about how to deal with Islam. The talking heads seem to agree that we are all against terrorism and radicalized Islam but we are for moderate Islam. So where does this fit in? It isn't terrorism because the muslims are not attacking or threatening physical assaults...

Everything from heart-shaped cards and boxes of chocolate candy to plastic flowers and teddy bears clutching plush red hearts will be 50 percent off because Valentine’s Day comes but once a year. (WASHINGTON) -- For a second consecutive year, President Obama won't be with Michelle on Feb. 14. And for a second consecutive year, he'll be on a trip to Palm Springs -- one of his favorite destinations over the past couple years -- playing golf and bro-ing out with high-school buddies. Obama landed on the West Coast on Thursday to attend the White House's cybersecurity summit at Stanford, and he traveled on to Palm Springs Saturday, where he'll stay at a private residence without the first family, according to the White House, until Monday, when he'll return to D.C. Though the...

As Valentine’s Day approaches love birds in the St Louis region will be looking for fine chocolates to send their partners. But, if they are pro-life they may want to avoid Kakao Chocolates. According to posts placed on the Facebook page of Planned Parenthood of the St Louis Region, Kakao Chocolate created “Chocolates for Choice” to help fund abortion giant Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood’s December 2nd post reads, “Send a gift of Kakao chocolates to yourself or a loved one and proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood in St. Louis. Kakao packages are available in three sizes, and start with...

by Brian Hayes | Top Right News How touching. Illegal aliens whose advocates always tell us just want to become Americans and "get right with the law" now want Obama to act like a dictator. Obama infamously threatened Congress that he would do whatever he wanted if they refused to bend to his will on issues such as immigration reform, the Constitution be damned: "We are not just going to be waiting for legislation....I’ve got a pen …and I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive actions and administrative actions," said our Dear Leader on January...

One year ago today, Intellectual Takeout had one of its most illuminating Facebook posts and corresponding reactions. Ever. Being Valentine’s Day, we decided to share definitions of the “four loves” from C.S. Lewis’ book of the same name. The first love we shared was Affection, which is best exemplified in the love of parents for offspring and offspring for parents. It got lots of likes, though more from females. All in all, predictable. The second love we shared was Friendship. Here’s what we wrote in our Facebook post: And the second love? Friendship. “When either Affection or Eros is one’s...

    National Review ^ | 02/13/2014 | By Steven E. Rhoads
Valentine’s Day in the 21st century means fewer heart-shaped candy boxes for college women than they would have received in the 20th century. Some women with steady, longstanding boyfriends may get a treat, but casual sex — the hook-up — has made dating much less common. Under the hook-up regime, women who want a man’s attention are expected to dress provocatively and show up at a fraternity house or bar. After drinking too much, some guy will suggest they go somewhere and hook up, which can consist of anything from deep kissing to intercourse. The men are not attentive during...

Gun bloggers Sebastian and gay cynic responded to the National Gun Victims Action Council recent announcement of a Valentine’s Day Starbucks boycott by organizing a BUYcott. Greg’s asking gun owners to reward Starbucks for its firearms policy by buying a beverage or food item with a two dollar bill (representing the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms) on February 14th. Not forgetting to “thank the clerk for Starbucks’ support of the Constitution.” Ahead of Starbuck’s Appreciation Day–which has now gone viral—our own Tim Tritt contacted the Seattle coffeesmith to voice his support for their support for gun rights....

    Cost of Government Center ^ | 2012-02-08 | [Staff]
Taxpayers are unlucky in love this Valentine’s Day. Of an identified $17 billion in Valentine’s Day related spending on candy, flowers, dinner, jewelry, greetings cards, clothing, and hotels, government composes 33.14 percent of those costs—approximately $5.6 billion in revenues. But how does government love thee? Let us tax the ways…. This year’s average Valentine’s Day spending is estimated to be $126.03 a person, an 8 percent increase in spending since last year. Valentine’s Day spending is subject to income taxes, payroll taxes, corporate income taxes, and other taxes on business activity. Government then includes additional fees, excise taxes, and international...

As women's participation in shooting sports has increased, so have sales at gun shops leading up to February 14. It's a given that restaurants, flower shops and candy stores will be hot spots as Valentine's Day approaches. But another industry sees a somewhat surprising boom in sales before the romantic holiday: gun shops. With women's participation in gun sports on the rise and manufacturers responding with feminine firearms that are even pink and red, many are buying a new gun as a gift for their Valentine. A few years ago, Mike Blackwell, owner of Big Boy's Guns and Ammo in...
