A group of eight wounded warriors have returned to the combat zone in Iraq where they were injured, to find a sense of closure. This second group of “Operation Proper Exit” will spend a week in Iraq, thanks to the Troops First Foundation and the USO. In June, six amputee combat veterans went back to Iraq as part of “Proper Exit” and visited seven military installations. This week the veterans are also traveling to many of the places where they received injuries, to see firsthand what progress their sacrifices and those of their comrades have brought to Iraq. At Camp...

When I was wandering around the socialist paradises of the workers and peasants with free medical care for all during the 1990s, of course I made a great many acquaintances. What follows was one of them, a guy I met on a train. He had recently been fishing, and insisted I join him in his meal. Normally, I am a laid-back, mellow, easy-going sort of person, and I had no problems accepting the hospitality of Russians, Ukrainians, White Russians, and Moldavians, but this was, uh, dead fish. I however got the impression I had better eat, and so for the...

I have someone who claims to have served two tours in Vietnam and he says that he was in the Special Forces and 82nd Airborne. We all think he is a phony, because there is nothing in his makeup that would indicate this. He also claims to be a PHD and a whole slew of other things. Is there any way to verify his military history without him knowing?

When D-Day occurred on June 6, 1944, the Arizona Daily Star had the news in the paper of the same date thanks to time differences. The news of the invasion came over the wire, and a two-page extra was printed. The main headline couldn't fail to attract attention: ALLIES LAND IN FRANCE. Other headlines called it the greatest military action in history. All of the headlines had a winning tone to them including "Allied paratroopers strike first blow at Axis vitals" and "Berlin acknowledges deep penetrations by glider-borne troops." Much of the news came from the Germans: The Germans said...

By the millions unchained, Who their birthright have gained We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained; And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave, While the land of the free is the home of the brave.

It was a historic moment in New Mexico Thursday as 13 veterans were given a proper military burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery. It's the start of New Mexico's Forgotten Heroes program. The veterans died in the past three years, but were never claimed by family so their cremated remains sat on shelves in Bernalillo County. A woman with a national movement called the Missing in America Project brought this to the attention of county and state officials.

More than that, in there is a day-to-day history of where he was in England, France, Germany and Australia in 1943, the year he was drafted into the Army. “Everything happens for a reason,” said Mr. Consigli. Ilario Pantano, former USMC officer and current candidate for Congress in NC-07 leaves no doubt about where he stands on DADT. In fact, he doesn't just have an opinion based on his combat experience, he accuses standard-bearer Congressman Patrick Murphy of selling his military oath for hard Leftist special interest money - he names names AND amounts! They are crazy about creases in the Old Guard, which is why it takes Army Sgt. Nicholas Pata more than an hour to press his uniform the night before inspection. [...] Pata, who is 27 and looks every bit the model soldier, does not want to fail. He wants to join the Old Guard, the most obsessive-compulsive unit in the Army. Pata has survived a harrowing 15-month tour in Iraq. He spent the week after 9/11 digging for bodies in the rubble of Ground Zero. On nights and weekends, he volunteers with the Prince George's County fire department. But it's...

Nine of those thirty-five entities, including the Military Archdiocese for Military Services USA, were established by the great Pope John Paul II. The U.S. military didn't always bring home its dead. In the Seminole Indian Wars in the early 1800s, most of the troops were buried near where they fell. The remains of some dead officers were collected and sent back to their families, but only if the men's relatives paid all of the costs. Families had to buy and ship a leaded coffin to a designated military quartermaster, and after the body had been disinterred, they had to cover the costs of bringing the coffin home. Today, air crews have flown the remains of more than 5,000 dead troops back to...

Dear (JJ): A few weeks ago, I asked you to urge your U.S. senators to amend their financial services reform legislation to eliminate the impact of the Volcker Rule on insurance company investment portfolios. Thanks to the more than 750,000 e-mails and phone calls generated by USAA members, employees and friends, there is now widespread and bipartisan understanding that an amendment to the Volcker Rule would be good for consumers. I am writing today to let you know that the Senate has approved its legislation and directed a committee crafting the final bill to specifically consider the concerns you raised....
