Meredith Shiner and I write today on the GOP's persistent trouble recruiting, retaining and attracting women, particularly in the House. The exception seems to be among hard core conservatives, with Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Virginia Foxx (R-NC), emerging as populist folk heroes on the right. But that doesn't necessarily make them appealing to independent and moderate women, says Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), herself a rising star among a larger class of Democratic women. Asked about Foxx and Bachmann, Wasserman Schultz, blasted away: “This is a party that doesn’t respect women, a party that doesn’t believe women are equal to...

Yesterday morning on the floor of the U.S. House, Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) eloquently warned us about the threat of the latest Pelosi ObamaCare bill. She stated “I believe we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing [Democrat Health Care] than we do from any terrorist right now in any country.” Video: Virginia Foxx - Fear ObamaCare more than Terrorism

Representative Virginia Foxx spoke about the Democratic health care proposal, saying "we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country."

RUSH: Now, we all know that yesterday the House of Representatives, in voting to eliminate all private sector student loans and turn that into a totally government-run program, we were also told that Darrell Issa slipped in a bill there that would defund ACORN and that the house overwhelmingly voted for that. Ah, ah, ah, ahhh! Representative Virginia Foxx also with WPTF radio, the Bill LuMaye Show, asked her a question. "Do we at some point defund them entirely where both the Senate and the House come together and say, 'No more federal tax dollars'?" FOXX: They'll let something like...

Innocent-seeming questionnaires, tests, and surveys are increasingly being disseminated by government officials so that they have complete histories on every citizen. At this writing, Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx of North Carolina is busy apologizing for her politically incorrect gaffe in arguing against legislation that would expand federal hate-crime laws to include sexual orientation. She pointed to the infamous Matthew Shepard case as a “hoax” inasmuch as Shepard’s killers appeared to have been interested in drugs, not sexual-identity issues. Were Foxx a teenager today, she would be spared the necessity of balancing her conservative views on sexuality against the left’s Orwellian...

For once, I actually agree with Olbermann. Rep. Foxx should indeed apologize. Matthew Shepard was brutally beaten, tortured and murdered in Wyoming. His story is portrayed in the play and film "The Laramie Project". Personally, I disagree with "hate crime" legislation because all crime can be considered "hateful". Does it really matter why someone is murdered? Murder is by definition a "hate crime". Is there really any need to complicate the laws? That said, Rep. Foxx's comments are truly "despicable", insensitive and shameful.

There’s nothing ‘insensitive’ about Virginia Foxx By Dwight Sparks - The political wars are fully engaged with the election only two weeks away. I’ve been amused at the off-base attacks on Congresswoman Virginia Foxx. Her Democratic critics have called her out of touch and insensitive. More accurately, she must be the most visible, accessible member of Congress ever to serve this area. She has spent weekends and time when Congress is at recess crisscrossing the district, turning up at public events large and very small. She has the energy of a kindergarten student. Anyone in the 5th district who hasn’t...

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) introduced a bill today to repeal an illegal alien harboring exemption for religious groups that was signed into law last week. Tancredo’s bill, H.R. 4321, would repeal the agricultural appropriations rider inserted by Senator Bob Bennett which allows religious groups to “conceal, harbor or shield” illegal aliens from federal law enforcement. The bill is co-sponsored by Representatives Todd Akin, Virginia Foxx, Louie Gohmert, Virgil Goode, Gil Gutknecht, J.D. Hayworth, John Hostettler (Chairman of Judiciary’s Immigration Subcommittee), Steve King, Jack Kingston (Vice-Chairman of the Republican Conference), Mike Pence (Chairman of the Republican Study Committee),...

Robinson's aggressiveness divides, becomes issue

This is an interesting revelation. Foxx has claimed to have consistently maintained conservative positions. One wonders whether she will show consistency with her past or explain why she has different core principles now that she is running for congress in the conservative NC5 district.

BANNER ELK, NC (Talon News) -- Last month, Talon News reported on the candidacy of Vernon Robinson, a conservative black Republican running for the 5th Congressional District seat in North Carolina in 2004. In continuing coverage, Talon News recently spoke with candidate Virginia Foxx in an exclusive interview. In a positive, calm manner, Foxx says she realizes criticisms levied against her from other candidates vying for the congressional seat are all a part of the "dirty process" of running for political office. "This is one of the most painful things about politics," Foxx told Talon News. "However, I believe that...

Robinson, Foxx to compete in runoff for Burr's seat By PAUL NOWELL Associated Press Writer WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After months of vicious personal attacks and all-out politicking, Republican voters in the 5th Congressional District can expect four more weeks of the same, as Vernon Robinson and Virginia Foxx advanced to an Aug. 17 runoff from an eight-person field. With all precincts reporting unofficial results early Wednesday, Foxx, a state senator, and Robinson, a conservative black activist led the crowded field. Robinson had 13,466 votes, or 23 percent and Foxx with 13,055, or 22 percent. Ed Broyhill, scion of the Broyhill...

U.S. Rep. Richard Burr's decision to seek the U.S. Senate seat of John Edwards may have some Piedmont Triad voters remembering the 1970s television comedy "Eight is Enough." With the primary election more than three months away and the general election seven months off, eight candidates are already in a messy tussle for the Republican nomination for Burr's 5th Congressional District seat. They include current and former state legislators and a black conservative activist. There's also a soy supplement executive and the scion of the Broyhill furniture family. Though most campaigns only heat up in the final weeks before a...

Tuesday, March 2, 2004 Filing criticizes Foxx's spending She says expenses linked to Senate, not congressional, run By David Rice and Theo Helm JOURNAL REPORTERS State Sen. Virginia Foxx continued to defend spending from her state Senate campaign yesterday as at least one complaint was filed with the Federal Election Commission saying that she used money from the state campaign to support her campaign for Congress. Foxx's campaign opponents have questioned expenses paid by her state campaign committee because federal law forbids the use of nonfederal campaign accounts to make expenditures for federal campaigns. Foxx, R-Watauga, has said repeatedly that...

Sen. Foxx banks on her experience N.C. Sen. Virginia Foxx By Dwight Sparks - Forsyth County has long dominated the 5th Congressional district. This year, a woman from the mountains is threatening to change that. She is State Sen. Virginia Foxx. The Banner Elk resident has the most formidable political record of all those running. First as a three-term member of the Watauga County school board. Then as president of Mayland Community College. And now a five-term member of the State Senate. Her district encompasses 35 percent of the voting power of the congressional district — a strength that has...

FIFTH DISTRICT REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE ED POWELL TODAY CONDEMNED THE CENTRAL AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT (CAFTA) Winston-Salem, NC – Republican 5th District Congressional candidate Ed Powell announced today that he is absolutely opposed to the newly announced Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Powell said, “We should have learned our lesson from NAFTA and the awful Chinese experiment that the only people who win in these trade agreements are the Wall Street chieftains who have sold the Fifth District workers down the river in the textile and furniture industry. These big-time Wall Streeters, who have one of their own running...
