Yes on 98 & No on 99 (For 98, though, I need to point out that raising rent when mobile homes change ownership in existing rent control cities is a taking of property from the seller of the mobile home, because the change of law would drastically reduce their property values. It's not a taking of the land owners' property, because the land was sold and bought in a rent control market. 98 would hurt me and a lot of people I know, but I'm aiming for a greater good and hoping that this law's flaw can be corrected in...

Elections 2006 On Election Day, our country will make critical decisions about the types of leaders we will have for years to come. If you have not been doing so, it is time to begin looking more carefully at the candidates who will be running. There are races for the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. There are also races at the state and local level, such as state legislatures and governors. To make the right decision when deciding on the candidates whom you will support, it is essential that you look carefully at the positions of the...
  • Some issues morally ‘non-negotiable,’ says ’06 Catholic voter’s guide

EL CAJON, Calif. (National Catholic Register) – The 2006 version of Catholic Answers Action’s Voter’s Guide for Serious Catholics became available in late July. Like the previous version distributed in the 2004 election cycle, the 16-page guide identifies five “non-negotiable” issues that Catholic Answers says should take precedence when Catholics are deciding how to vote. The issues are abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning and homosexual “marriage” – all of which must be universally opposed by the Catholic voter. “On most issues that come before voters or legislators, the task is selecting the most effective policy to implement or...

White Catholics will decide the upcoming US elections, according to William Galston, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and former domestic policy adviser to President Clinton.Galston reviewed the past 50 years of religious and political trends and how they will help researchers predict future elections, which the US faces this November when all seats in the House of Representatives of the US Congress are open. Galston presented his research in a seminar hosted by The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life in May at Key West, Florida among journalists and research participants from publications like the New York...

Some attempts to sabotage Catholic voters Barbara Kralis Barbara Kralis October 29, 2004 The Catholic Church possesses the fullness of truth, the complete moral teachings of our age. We thank God for the Magisterium of the Church, for the solemn teaching office of our Pope John Paul II and the Popes before him, and the 'ordinary magisterium' or the Bishops in communion with him. Yet, attempts by Church leaders are made every day to sabotage these teachings. Let us look at a number of recent damages: On August 20, 2004, La Crosse diocese Attorney James G. Birnbaum wrote a letter...

About the Voters' Guide. In every statewide election over the last 20 years, we have produced Voters' Guides to educate Texans about candidates' stances on the issues. In 2002, we reached 3.5 million Texans! By being an active participant you acknowledge… that to exercise your right to vote is a privileged freedom that responsibility as concerned citizens to remain free to vote comes at the price of participation that when you know where a candidate stands on important issues, you will vote more intelligently Why do I need a Voters' Guide? Too often the media focuses on the “horse race”...

PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS Amendment #1 - YES - Parental Notice for child obtaining an ABORTION Amendment #2 - NO - Requires Supreme court to rule on "validity" of PROPOSED constiutional amendments - I don't think so... the purpose of a proposed constitutional ammendment is for the PEOPLE to tell the supreme court what is "valid" not the other way around... Amendment #3 - YES - Medical Liability - Requires claimant/victim (not lawyer) to get 70% of the first $250,000 and 90% in excess of $250,000 (excluding reasonable costs) Amendment #4 - YES - Allows slot machines in Miami-Dade and Broward...

On Tuesday August 31, Catholic Answers ran a full-page ad in USA Today in several major markets advising Catholics how to vote, in light of Church teaching, on five key, non-negotiable issues. The ad contained the text of the "Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics," created and produced by Catholic Answers. Although entirely legal (the Voter's Guide does not promote or advocate any party or candidate), the ad and the Voter's Guide have been considered controversial, especially to some Catholics opposed to the Magisterial teaching of the Catholic Church. On September 20, 2004, Francis Kissling, President of Catholics for a Free...

Dear Colleague, Today we report on a popular voter guide published by the group Catholic Answers that focuses exclusively on the life issues, along with marriage. Catholic dioceses report that the guide has met resistance from the lawyers of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. Do they fear that the IRS will come after dioceses for distributing it? Or is it that the anwers too clearly favor the Republican? Spread the word. Yours sincerely, Austin Ruse President Action item: To view the voter guide and to order copies for your Church, go to http://www.catholic.com/library/voters_guide.asp _________________________________________________________ CULTURE & COSMOS August 24,...

UNITED STATES SENATOR Doug GALLAGHER ......This was a tough choice but I must vote my conscience on this one... I had it down to McCollum or Martinez at one point, but in the end decided to go with Gallagher in the primary.. this is a race that can be one with very few votes given the number of candidates in the race and NO RUN-OFF !!.... 4th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT Deborah KATZ PUESCHEL ..... I am supporting Deborah again this year, and I think we have enough votes to get rid of the UNPRODUCTIVE party PUPPET we have in Ander CRENSHAW.......
