Study Finds Average Voter Bored with Lack of Terrorist Attacks

A survey conducted by University of California professor Dean Weaver found that voters are “bored with the current state of the war on terror.” It is believed that this undermines the presumed electoral strength that McCain and the Republicans would draw from the national security issue. “Apparently, the absence of attacks since 9-11 has led to a stunning level of complacency,” Weaver observed. “It goes beyond taking safety for granted. People are actually bored by it. For many, life may be indistinguishable from TV and movies. They want drama. They want to see explosions and shoot-outs. They want a real-life...

Sal In Harlem

Please Note: I am not a fan of the Howard Stern show. However, this clip about sent me over the edge. Sal In HarlemHoward Stern sent "Sal" out into Harlem to see how people there were going to vote and why. When the three people featured answered Barack Obama, Sal asked why not John McCain. Then Sal took McCain's policies, attributed them to Obama. Listen to what happens

Bradley County (TN) voter registration to top 60,000

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Bradley County’s registered voter list will likely top 60,000 before early voting begins next week. A whirlwind month of voter registration was capped Monday with 407 new registrations, Elections Director Fran Green told county election commissioners Tuesday. In the August general election the county had about 54,000 registered voters. As of Tuesday, that number was 59,891. Ms. Green held up a tray of registrations and estimated about 500 were left to process. “That will put us over 60,000, “ she said. Election Commission Chairwoman Mary Frances Armstrong praised the office staff’s effort to handle the Monday mobs.....

Minutemen answer the call Nationwide(vanity)

Once again the spirit of volunteerism is engaging the crisis of the year, ELECTION FRAUD. With the announcement of ACORN signing up illegal fraudulent voters, a call has gone out Nationwide for Minutemen who patroled our nation's borders since 2005 for illegal crossings to turn their gaze (OBSERVE AND REPORT) activities to POLL WATCHING in their district in their respective states. Instead of fretting and gasping at the reports of illegal voters trying to steal the election, Minutemen across the nation are gearing up for the Nov 4th, 2008 election with their cell phones and binoculars once again. Minutemen understand...

The Mystery of Ohio's Missing Early Voters

I mentioned this earlier in the week, but it's still nagging at me, and we have some new numbers... This year, Ohio allowed any citizen not registered to vote to show up, register, and vote on the same day in Sept. 30 to Oct. 6 window. The AP was writing back in August, "If Obama's campaign were able to tap into college campuses with one-stop voting, it would add thousands of votes to his tally in a state where, in 2004, John Kerry lost to President Bush by only about 118,000 votes, putting Bush over the top in the electoral...

The Tax Issue Still Resonates By KARL ROVE

The Tax Issue Still Resonates By KARL ROVE Conventional wisdom says tax cuts have lost their political power. "Cutting taxes has run its course," "America's great fever for lower taxes . . . has cooled," and "Republicans relied too easily on tax cuts," are among the assertions I've seen recently from different pundits. One reason offered for the alleged decline of tax cuts as a potent issue is that since 2000, tax cuts have taken 13 million filers off of the income tax rolls. Today, one-third of all filers have no federal income tax liability and nearly 40% of all...

The Cruelest Lie

30 years ago as part of a Christian outreach team, I spoke to troubled youths in prison. What struck me about the mostly black inmates was their negative attitudes. It was their biggest problem. They were bitter and angry at white America. The majority of these black youths, many bright , talented and some even gifted believed that the white man had stacked everything against them. Crime was their only way to level the playing field. This is a lie. Who infected or who committed the terrible crime of wasting the minds of these black youths? Much of the blame...

Older voters could be pivotal in presidential election

The most important voters in close races are the ones that candidates can count on to show up on Election Day – and seniors may just become the new "soccer moms" in this presidential election. Older Americans have the highest turnout rate of any age group – 69 percent in 2004. And they'll wield clout in this tight presidential contest because a number of the swing states, like Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, have a lot of older residents. "Despite the media's focus on the youth vote, the most influential voters in the McCain-Obama matchup are likely to have some gray...

Obama Losing Traction Among Younger Voters

The hidden story of the last week has been the shift in many states and nationwide among the youngest of voters, those ages 18-to-29, from a solid entrenchment in the Obama camp to a significant drift toward a newly revived John McCain effort, all courtesy of Gov. Sarah Palin. Our survey approach keeps young respondents from being interviewed by young interviewers, thus avoiding the inevitable pressure a youthful poll respondent might feel to "fit in" and claim to be a supporter of Obama. As a result, younger voters, while still favoring Obama, have moved to the McCain column in not...

5 Myths About Those Civic-Minded, Deeply Informed Voters

One thing both Democrats and Republicans agreed about in their vastly different conventions: The American voter will not only decide but decide wisely. But does the electorate really know what it's talking about? Plenty of things are hurting American democracy -- gridlock, negative campaigning, special interests -- but one factor lies at the root of all the others, and nobody dares to discuss it. American voters, who are hiring the people who'll run a superpower democracy, are grossly ignorant. Here are a few particularly bogus claims about their supposed savvy. 1. Our voters are pretty smart. 2. Bill O'Reilly's viewers...

Voters Should Pass A Minimal Civics Test

I have never been an advocate of the popular notion that "everyone should vote." Some people look at me as if I am somehow un-American when I say that I am not in favor of encouraging people to vote who would otherwise never darken the door of a polling place. I really don't want someone on the streets of Hollywood, who just failed to identify the vice president of the United States on one of Jay Leno's "Jay-Walking" segments, helping to select the person who will lead my government for the next four years.
A growing number of California voters believe the chronic state budget deficit is a serious problem and lack faith in the ability of the state's political leadership to do anything about it, according to a new Field Poll. Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo said voters are becoming increasingly frustrated by the Legislature's inability to pass the budget on time or close the $15 billion deficit. “The public has growing concerns about the budget and less confidence that the Legislature...

Are Americans Smarter than they Look?

Understanding American voter sentiments heading into the 2008 Election cycle is no easy task. Voters seem to be all over the board on how they feel about the issues, the candidates, and what they think we should do about each issue is even stranger. In studying current Rasmussen Report detailed numbers, Americans seem to struggle with remaining on task all the way through their thought processes. Many voter positions appear quite counter-indicated, contradictory and even downright confusing, or should I say, confused. Obama and McCain are clearly in a dead heat statistical tie in the race for the White House....

Hillary Won Popular Vote!

Hillary actually won the popular vote, if you count Michigan – even if you give Obama the “undecided” votes. However, according to Real Clear Politics, officials didn’t release the numbers in Iowa, Nevada, Washington & Maine. Those states would likely give the edge to Obama, unless you count Michigan and don’t give Obama the “undecided.” So if you do the Democratic thing and only count actual votes for actual candidates, Hillary wins.
