Bill Clinton Has 'Never Seen a Candidate Treated So Disrespectfully Just for Running' May 25, 2008 2:25 PM ABC News' Sarah Amos reports: Former President Bill Clinton in South Dakota today delivered a harsh critique of how his wife has been treated during her presidential bid, telling the crowd that he has "never seen a candidate treated so disrespectfully just for running," and that, "she will win the general election if you nominate her. They're just trying to make sure you don't." Clinton spent more than six minutes calmly discussing what he called a "frantic effort to push her out"...

I have long thought that Ann Coulter has done more harm than good with certain of her writings and comments. Notice I've written certain, but you must take from those words the inference not all. Yes, certainly some of it has been very funny. Often there's a deep dish of irony served. Other times it takes someone like her cut through the chatter and name names and characterize situations. The comment made at CPAC recently was one of those times where she stepped over the line when lampooning either someone or a situation or political correctness or whatever rationalization her supporters...

It is a simple axium that "If you think you are a whe inner, you might be right, but if you think you are a loser you will probably be right." This said, no matter how bad things looked over the past many months, I never allowed my doubts to overcome my essays. I was not a candidate. I did not see any value in saying defeatist things. Being "realistic" was not a chioce for me. My doubts were real to be sure. The poll of Freepers that showed just a 79% support rate for the GOP gave me plenty...

GRAND RAPIDS -- Spectrum Health and Saint Mary's Health Care will require all their employees to not use tobacco at any time during their work shift beginning January 1. The staffs of both hospitals will need to arrive without smelling of smoke, and they can't use any tobacco products until they leave hospital property after their shift. Metro Health is also joining in the Smoke-Free Work Day Every Day campaign. In 2003, the Grand Rapids hospitals became the first in the country to jointly declare their hospital campuses smoke-free. Today, more than 30 Michigan hospitals have smoke-free campuses. This...

The day Katie Couric became the first woman anchorperson of a prime time news broadcast, Princess Kiko of Japan gave birth to a baby boy. If you think the two items are unrelated, you’re right. If you think the two items are related, you’re right, too. The question is, Why. Here’s the problem: If you’re a girl, we have a little good news, a little bad news for you. The good news is that you, too, can grow up to be Katie Couric. The bad news is that you cannot yet grow up to be empress of Japan. The question...

The politically charged documentary "Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing" has been picked up for worldwide distribution by the Weinstein Co. A release is tentatively scheduled for the fall, possibly right before the November elections. The film revolves around the aftermath of singer Natalie Maines' statement at a 2003 London concert, where she said, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." It chronicles death threats, political attacks and radio boycotts against the country trio, and that could make the film a political hot potato as well as potential ammo should longtime Democratic...

On Wednesday December 14 an event occurred which does not leave much space for doubts that the “gas blackmail” exercised by Russia has got nothing to do with the gas itself. The “Gasprom” stand with regard to the price of gas had undergone a miraculous change. The price that the Russian monopolist is demanding for its product has gone up from $160 per 1000 cubic meters to $230. This means that a fair price is absolutely out of the question if to consider the Russian motivation in this matter. Simply because prices for such a commodity never undergo rapid changes,...

President Bush selected his father and Bill Clinton over Jimmy Carter for the official delegation attending the funeral of Pope John Paul II, the Carter Center claimed Late Tuesday. "President Carter expressed to the White House a desire to attend the Pope's funeral," an official said. Carter "was informed that the official delegation would be limited to just five people, and there were also others who were eager to attend." "The Carters always relish the memories of Pope John Paul II being a delightful personal guest at the White House in 1979, on a pope's only visit to our nation's...

First, this is NOT an April Fool's joke. I am leaving Free Republic. Over the past two years, civility and thoughtful discourse has vanished from this site, replaced with demands for ideological conformity that are straight out of Stalinist Russia or China's Great Cultural Revolution, and unrelenting uncivility if said conformance is not forthcoming. This trend began with the California recall election, where certain posters were allowed to flame the living beejezus out of those who didn't wholeheartedly support Tom McClintock, or thought that he wasn't running a campaign capable of winning. It extended into the Keyes campaign last year,...

For over a decade I’ve tried to convince people in the pro-life movement that leaving the Republican Party wasn’t a good move. The past few days has changed my mind, and I started to write this article when the news broke that Terri died. Florida has shown us that the best that the GOP has to offer is a losing strategy. For decades abortion has remained “legal” due to the same problems which were present in Florida: an arrogant judiciary and an unwilling executive branch. The call for Jeb to refuse to enforce the illicit orders of Judge Greer went...

To All: First of all I posted something that appeared to be in favor of our President. As far as the validity of the story, well that has to be approved or disproved. I didn’t think that by posting this story would generate such negative feelings against me. As far as the one who called me a coward I beg the differ with you My posting some of my reply’s was not to hide my comments but to reply directly to the individual without getting everyone else involved that shared other than negative opinions .I did not deserve all the...

The gym has Fox television on, and perhaps I should be grateful, because otherwise it would not have dawned on me just how popular and widely embraced stupid is. By stupid, I don't really intend insult. Stupid is a mental outlook that affirms the crude and base while eschewing the noble and thoughtful. It is an attitude of mind that can be adopted by both low lights and bright lights.

SCANA IS A private business, and can do what it wants, within limits. Since it is granted a monopoly in its service region, there are certain areas in which the public has a vital interest in its policies -- rates, bus fares, the Lake Murray dam all come to mind. But when it comes to setting internal policy as to what sort of political expressions are deemed appropriate on company property, that's SCANA's business. The company can discourage Confederate flags in its parking lot or not. That's up to SCANA. Somebody needs to tell Sen. Glenn McConnell that. The Senate...
