AFP - The Libyan authorities said late Saturday they had decided to dissolve all militias and armed groups that did not come under State authority. The move, a day after Benghazi residents rebelled against the militias in violence that killed at least 11 people and wounded over 70, was announced by Mohammed al-Megaryef, head of the national assembly, in the eastern city.

On the eve of his first trip to the United States as Egypt’s new Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi said the United States needed to fundamentally change its approach to the Arab world, showing greater respect for its values and helping build a Palestinian state, if it hoped to overcome decades of pent-up anger. In a 90-minute interview with The New York Times on Saturday, Morsi said it was up to Washington to repair relations with the Arab world and to revitalize the alliance with Egypt, long a cornerstone of regional stability. If Washington is asking Egypt to honor its treaty...

The world watches the war of words between Israel and Iran. President Ahmadinejad’s call for the annihilation of the Zionist regime has lost its edge because of overuse. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s reply that Israel has the right to defend itself is as expected as the sun rising in the morning. However, tensions rose to a new high last week with the comment by Iran’s Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi that “of course this confrontation has always continued; however, since we are in the era of The Coming, this war will be a significant war” (Mashregh news). Is this ever going to stop? I’m beginning to think, no. (Ahram Online) — Tens of thousands of people on Saturday protested in Nigeria’s second city of Kano, burning images of Barack Obama and stomping on the American flag to denounce an anti-Islam film made in the US.A crowd that included men, children and veiled women stretched for several kilometres (miles) through the city, the largest in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north, condemning the film that has stirred outrage across the Muslim world. They shouted “death to America, death to Israel and death to the enemies of Islam,” in a rally that...

Turkey's military deployed armored vehicles and heavy weaponry to the border with Syria on Saturday, near a crossing that has seen intense fighting between rebels and government forces, local media said. The deployment is reportedly in an area where earlier this week Turkish civilians were wounded when stray bullets and shelling crossed the border from the Syrian province of al-Raqqa. CNN Turk television said artillery fire had landed close to the Turkish border overnight, causing panic among local residents. The Turkish army moved three Howitzers and one anti-aircraft weapon to the border, the channel said. Turkey, a member of NATO,...

In a show of mass frustration at the armed groups, protesters seized control of several militia headquarters on Friday night and handed them over to Libya’s national army in what appeared to be a coordinated sweep. The anti-militia fervor in Darna is notable because the city, in the mountains along the Mediterranean coast north of Benghazi, has long had a reputation as a stronghold for Islamic extremists. During the Gadhafi era, it was the hotbed of a deadly Islamist insurgency against his regime. A significant number of the Libyan jihadists who travelled to Afghanistan and Iraq during recent wars came from Darna. Germany has called off a conference next month to drum up investment for Sudan after its embassy in Khartoum was stormed in protests against a film that insults the Prophet Mohammad, Sudanese officials and diplomats said on Thursday. The move is a blow for Sudan which has been trying to attract investment to help overcome an economic crisis worsened by the loss of most of its oil reserves when arch-foe South Sudan declared independence in July 2011. U.S. intelligence indicates that 50 or more people, many of them masked, were responsible for the Sept. 11 assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi. Gun trucks provided added firepower. The attackers set up a perimeter, controlling access in and out of the compound. The bill also would have denied aid to Pakistan unless that country releases Dr. Shakil Afridi. Pakistan arrested the doctor, who allegedly helped the United States track down Osama bin Laden by running a fake vaccination program for the CIA to collect DNA. The objective was to verify bin Laden’s presence at the compound where the al-Qaida leader was later killed. Afridi was convicted of high treason and sentenced to 33 years in prison. On Sunday, the White House narrative on the assassination of Ambassador J. With the Middle East now more hostile to U.S. interests than ever, the "Arab Spring" has become a major political liability for the president. Try as he may, he can't distance himself from it. The organizing principle of the administration’s foreign policy is one of weakness and passivity, coupled with a conspicuous rhetorical abdication of American leadership, write David Rivkin and Lee Casey. A few days ago on The Daily Beast, Leslie Gelb praised President Obama’s handling of the unfolding crisis in the Middle East last week and evidently discerns no connection between the ensuing wave of anti-American violence and the broader parameters of American foreign policy. He is wrong on both counts. The administration’s crisis management has been mediocre. Even more fundamentally, the current assault on America’s position in the Middle East is...

In a commercial containing clips from their Washington press conferences, subtitled in Urdu, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton said “sorry” to the mad hordes attacking the American embassy in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad and deplored the infamous anti-Muslim14-minute YouTube video. “We absolutely reject its content and message,” said Clinton in the advertisements, which ended with the seal of the American embassy in Pakistan. U.S. taxpayers footed the bill for this high-level official apology to the tune of $70,000. This is...
  • Obama's excuse for embassy attack, the movie, is failure as his Muslim policy

The murder of a U.S. Ambassador is not only tragic, but it is also very unusual. It was the first time in 33 years an American diplomat had been killed while serving this nation. This is a major incident that should lead to congressional investigations and a full review of what happened. Since this incident occurred, the Obama administration has been unable to keep their story straight. Initially, the administration said the attack was a violent reaction to an amateurish anti-Muslim movie. Eventually, this cover story fell apart causing Jay Carney, the President’s Press Secretary, to finally admit that it...

War On Terrorism: Intelligence sources believe the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya was tied to al-Qaida and led by a former Gitmo detainee released in 2007 and handed over to Libya. Intelligence sources have told Fox News they are sure the deadly attack was directly tied to al-Qaida and a former Guantanamo detainee — Sufian bin Qumu (full name Abu Sufian Ibrahim Ahmed Hamuda Bin Qumu). Given the track record of former Gitmo detainees being released, only to return to killing Americans, we are not surprised. On Wednesday's Special Report, Fox News reporter Catherine Herridge reported that...

President Barack Obama said Thursday that extremists used an anti-Islam video as an excuse to assault U.S. interests overseas, including an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. The president's comments came as Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton faced questions from members of the House and Senate about the Sept. 11 attack on the consulate in Benghazi in a series of closed-door classified briefings on Capitol Hill. Republicans have accused the Obama administration of misreading the assault as the outgrowth of widespread demonstrations in the Middle East over the video....

The conservative advocacy group Let Freedom Ring released an ad Thursday to run in key swing states depicting President Barack Obama as a Muslim Brotherhood sympathizer. The group was planning on airing the ads next month, but shifted course after Muslims attacked the Egyptian embassy and killed four Americans in Libya, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Egypt's new president, Mohammed Morsi, belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood, considered a terrorist organization by some. The Brotherhood denies such claims. Let Freedom Ring President Colin Hanna says Obama's response to the incidents illustrated his naďvete´ on foreign affairs. "After our embassies were stormed, President...

Tehran, Iran (CNN) -- They may be a far cry from their Western counterparts fighting for the acceptance to breast-feed -- or go topless -- in public, but two girls clobbered a cleric recently in a small town in Iran when he admonished one of them to cover herself more completely. The cleric said he asked "politely," but the girl's angry reaction and some pugilistic double-teaming with her friend landed the holy man in the hospital, according to an account Monday in the semiofficial Mehr News Agency. Hojatoleslam Ali Beheshti said he encountered the girls on his way to the...

We might be facing the most embarrassing moment in the history of human civilization. A couple of decades from now, some history book might appear with the following entry: “World War III Sparked by YouTube Video.” It’s a silly pretext that could easily be a story line for a “South Park” episode, but in this case, truth is stranger than fiction. If you buy into the ridiculous media reports, you’re supposed to believe that angry Muslims in Egypt, Libya, and throughout the Middle East exploded into deadly violence on Sept. 11 in reaction to a YouTube video they found insulting....
