(CBS) -- There's a neighborhood in Brooklyn that's known for being trendy and hip, but some residents say the Bohemian reputation is drawing a group of transient people from around the world known as "gutter punks" and it's now turning into a squatter invasion. He was preaching to the choir last night at the Democrat Congressional retreat in Williamsburg, Virginia. His frustration level with any dissent over this massive pork bill is evident. He says he welcomes debate and then demands that it gets passed without quibbling and partisanship. He says that all economists from both sides of the aisle think a catastrophe will befall us if it is not passed, but that nobody should listen to the debate "chatter" on the cable news channels. Nuchem (Nathan) Rosenberg, 58, complained outside the 90th Precinct in Williamsburg that cops have ignored his pleas for help since the summer. The threats were so frightening, Rosenberg said, that he closed...

WILLIAMSBURG — Advocates of our version of “The DaVinci Code” were back in town Friday, calling for another excavation to locate the “secret vault” of Sir Francis Bacon, which they still allege is buried beneath the churchyard of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church. It is a replay of a saga from 14 years ago that put the church in an awkward position of dispelling some very weird myths. A media circus resulted. The story propagated by Sir Francis Bacon's Sages of the Seventh Seal has all the elements of Dan Brown's theological thriller. The Bacon story relies on a conspiracy theory...

All of us arrived at Crim Dell Meadow and the caravan of aging hippie throwbacks had already setup shop. According to Flora McDonald she had spoken to William and Mary previously about our counter protest. She was reassured we would be seen by both students and anti-war protesters. We were shocked to learn that the school had gone back on its word and sent us a football field or so away from the antiwar protest. Worse than that, the area had little foot traffic and shade (something the cindy sheehan’s group did have). So I walked over to the college...

Insurrections have three times thrust upon Williamsburg armies of occupation. In July 1676, when the town was yet called Middle Plantation, it fell into the power of the rebel Nathaniel Bacon and his men. In June 1781, as the war for American independence neared its dénouement, England's Lord Cornwallis and his troops briefly took over the city. After Yorktown, French troops took up winter residence. Eighty years later, the morning of May 6, 1862, in the War for Southern Independence the first of the Yankees marched in. It was the end of the Battle of Williamsburg, a clash along an...

But if the UN Security Council concludes, after a key report by UN inspectors due on Friday, that Iraq is not disarming as required by council resolutions, "the council must face up to its responsibilities," he said. "When there is strong UN leadership,...
