Albany Councilman Glen Casey wants to give some city employees an additional ten days off next year. The Catch: He doesn't want to pay them for it. "the idea is for all non union Albany city employees making $55,000 or more to have to take an additional ten days off next year. They would not get paid for it. I want to take what would be between $150,000 and $200,000 dollars in savings and give it to those employees making under 40,000 a raise" says Casey Casey pitched the idea to Council Members at Mondays meeting while they talked about...

I admit it, I HAD an account at Daily Kos. I will lamely attempt to defend myself by saying that it was a personal social experiment to see how long I could keep from being banned while posting cogent and unbiased comments and diaries. What did I find out? What we probably all already knew, the nutroots don't have a sense of humor, they are the only ones with any compassion, and anyone that is not similarly (extremely) liberal is not just insensitive but EVVVVILLL! I lasted a bit longer than obvious dissenters/sane people (know at DKos as trolls) because...

I got a real kick out of this and I thought I'd share. So far, Daily Kos has been a bastion of cheerleading for Obama. These are the sort of people from whom he's been able to raise the kind of money he has. If this is a sign of things to come, we have much to be thankful for.

We couldn't believe this despicable story when we first heard it and neither could the folks at television station WFXT in Boston, MA. Local Boy Scouts in Boston were collecting care package items to send to the troops during this holiday season - that is until city officials stepped in, called law enforcement and shut down their care package collections for the troops. The mean, cold-hearted woman who shut down the Boy Scouts efforts is a city official named Marsha Weinerman of Boston, Massachusetts who was appointed to her post July 1, 2006. You can contact Ms. Weinerman at this...

If you had a chance to help prevent World War III, would you take the time? On Oct. 25, the Bush administration announced new unilateral sanctions against Iran. The administration named Iran's Revolutionary Guard, its Ministry of Defense, and its Armed Forces Logistics "entities of proliferation concern" regarding weapons of mass destruction. It also blamed the Revolutionary Guard's Quds Force for "providing material support to the Taliban and other terrorist organizations."--Bush was labeling "enemies" in a way that would allow an attack that circumvents the constitutional need to consult with Congress. Just the evening before I had watched the documentary...

A feature piece in this coming Sunday's New York Times Magazine on Republican candidate for president, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, portrays his followers as including a wild mix of "wackos" on both ends of the political spectrum. Paul, a libertarian, has been gaining media and public attention of late. The cover line reads: "A Genuine Radical for President." The headline inside: "The Antiwar, Anti-Abortion, Anti-Drug-Enforcement-Administration, Anti-medicare Candidacy of Dr. Ron Paul." The article closes with the author, Christopher Caldwell, attending a Ron Paul Meetup in Pasadena. The co-host, Connie Ruffley of United Republicans of California, admits she once was...

I have mixed feelings when I see my predictions of what would come to pass in the case of the 6 wannabees who planned to attack Ft. Dix and kill as many soldiers as possible. A look at what's out there in the media and on the web tempts me to do something more rewarding-such as watching "The Re-birth of Mothra" !

Did I hear the news correctly? Michael Savage is mulling a run for the presidency? Hallelujah! President Michael Savage in the Oval Office would be a blessing to America, and would be a positive answer to millions of conservative prayers. In fact, a Savage presidency may the only hope for saving America from liberal nitwits like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, not to mention RINOs and our “conservative” president. Dr. Savage believes in American “borders, language, and culture.” He would fight to secure our borders, make English use mandatory, and he would strive to preserve the rich American heritage. With...

With clear skies and temperatures in the 40s, it was a pleasant fall day. Except that it was the first weekend in an already-odd January. We'd been running errands and decided to stop for coffee at one of those places that is supposed to make you think you're in the Pacific Northwest -- pine paneling, photos of mountain meadows and latte-like brews for people who aren't actual coffee drinkers. Sprawled around the fireplace was a group of six or seven young people. They seemed to be having a good time. Some of them were reading newspapers; others were doing puzzles....

America's most controversial filmmaker is mulling over the state of the nation, and he isn't quite sure if he's feeling hopeful or hopeless about America these days. "I feel hopeful and I feel like we're in deep sh--," says director Oliver Stone. "I guess I feel like most people do. There is an America that I grew up in that I love. I think to some degree that it's been stolen. But there are enough of us to get it back." This brings him to his new movie, "World Trade Center," opening Wednesday. Based on the lives of two real...

'Rarely is the question asked, 'Is our children learning?'" noted George Bush during his first presidential election campaign. No, the answer is our children "is" not learning and will be ill-prepared to face the global economy. A study released this month by National Geographic Education Foundation highlighted just how dire our children's ignorance is: One-third of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 couldn't find Louisiana on a map -- even after all the news about Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Half couldn't find the states of New York or Ohio. It's understandable that Kazakhstan would be a difficult place...

Every walk of life and field of endeavor generates its own insiders' lingo. Those of us in the MSM — that's the superannuated, archaic mainstream media — have our own jargon, of which the first sentence of an article is the lede, the early edition is the bulldog and the guys working into the wee hours make up the lobster shift. Some of our special vocabulary is being stolen from us by the denizens of the world of Web logs. Above the fold — the top half of a standard-size newspaper page, where the major stories begin — now, in...

Public has had it with both parties Battleground poll reveals Americans disillusioned with government Posted: October 28, 20051:00 a.m. Eastern © 2005 WorldNetDaily.com A just-released political survey by George Washington University contains bad news for Democrats and Republicans because it lays bare a public seemingly disenfranchised with both major parties. The Battleground poll – unique for its inclusion of top Democrat and Republican pollsters – shows a definite slide in support for President Bush and the GOP. But the survey contains little good news for Democrats as a viable alternative. The poll found just 44 percent of the public is satisfied with...

WASHINGTON - Hundreds of thousands of anti-war protesters will descend on the nation's capital this weekend, demanding that Congress and President Bush withdraw American soldiers from Iraq. Yet as Washington girded for three days of demonstrations, President Bush promised yesterday to remain firm in his support of the war effort. In remarks delivered at the Pentagon, the president said Americans who want to withdraw troops from Iraq to escape violence have "good intentions, but their position is wrong." "To leave Iraq now," Mr. Bush said, "would be to repeat the costly mistakes of the past that led to the terrorist...
