Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said Tuesday he would vote for a “clean CR” to end the government shutdown. “I’ll vote for a clean CR," Issa told CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. “Republicans in the House have always been for a clean CR increase if it meant we began the serious negotiations on the kinds of reforms that need to happen…entitlements as a shortcut for it. That's what the deal is about right now.” Democrats have pressed Republicans to bring a continuing resolutio to the floor that funds the government and does nothing else for weeks. Since 2010, Vice President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden have invited top journalists to their home at the Naval Observatory for a beach bash that has included Super Soaker fights, face painting, and a moon bounce. Plenty of outrage coming from Twitter about this and other instances of media speculation in the wake of the multiple explosions in Boston today, and it's worth discussing separately from Allahpundit's excellent tracking post on the main story. Wolf Blitzer is covering the story for CNN at its headquarters, and he filled the time by speculating that today's Patriot Day holiday in Massachusetts might have something to do with the apparent bombing of the Boston Marathon:CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO “One intriguing notion, one intriguing thought here, and I’m curious, Mike, and I’ll ask Matt to weigh in as...

Talk about a reality check: CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer told tea party Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) Thursday that he has to "deal with reality" in the Senate and "can't be overly idealistic." In one of his first interviews since being sworn into Congress earlier in the day, Cruz told CNN that he would not have voted in favor of the fiscal cliff compromise, calling it a "lousy deal." "Look, it wasn't a perfect deal. Nobody was thrilled by it, but you got a deal with what's doable in a divided Congress like we have," Blitzer told him. “The only reason...

During the second half of the 4PM Eastern hour on CNN's "Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," Obama's former Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones, referred to GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney as a "douche" twice -- on the air. The moment came during a political panel hosted by CNN's senior political analyst Gloria Borger. Other panelists included former Bush White House spokesman Ari Fleischer and former GOP Congressman JC Watts. The discussion surrounded Obama's dwindling advantage with women voters.

Washington (CNN) – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said Thursday the leading Republican presidential candidate was carrying a "golden bullet" to connect with women voters. Speaking on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," the Palmetto State Republican said Mitt Romney's wife Ann, along with the candidate himself, would need to answer women with concerns about his platform. Polls released in the past week show Romney trailing President Barack Obama by a large margin among female voters. "If Gov. Romney has not related to women, he needs to get out there and talk about the issues they care about," Haley...

BLITZER’S BLOG: Nervous about North Korea By Wolf Blitzer, CNN Atlanta (CNN) - Even while I’m here at the CNN Election Center in Atlanta getting ready for the Iowa caucuses, I’m hearing disturbing murmurings from my national security sources in Washington about North Korea. They clearly don’t know what the new leadership in Pyongyang is going to do, but they are bracing for a possible provocation on the Korean peninsula. The U.S. fear is that the new leader, Kim Jong Un, is going to orchestrate some risky act against South Korea to create tension. The goal would be to help...

Newt Gingrich tells CNN's Wolf Blitzer he would consider Mitt Romney to be a potential running mate (VIDEO). The interview is very much in keeping with Gingrich’s “keep it classy” campaign theme so far — and he treaded lightly, sounding neither overly enthusiastic about a VP Romney nor overly displeased with the idea. But why did he take the bait at all? He could just as easily have remained indifferent, have answered with a simple, “I’d have to give it thought.” He won’t win over Romney supporters — and he significantly owes his own surge to the appetite for an...

Joel Bennett, the lawyer for one of the former employees of the National Restaurant Association who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment, spoke to Wolf Blitzer live on CNN moments ago. Bennett said that in his legal opinion, what occurred between Cain and his client met the legal definition of sexual harassment. But despite repeated questions from Blitzer, he refused to specify what the alleged actions were, and he said his client would not be appearing to shed any further light on the matter. When Blitzer pointed out Cain’s vehement, blanket denial, Bennett replied, “In all my years of lawyering,...

...about comments he made on Real Time regarding the 'alarming' number of 'baby Mohammeds' in England. Maher told Wolf Blitzer that he felt no need to "apologize for being a proud Westerner," or for being worried that "Muslim people in these [Western] societies are having babies" at a faster clip than non-Muslims.And when I say Westerner, I mean someone who believes in the values that Western people believe in that a lot of the Muslim world does not. Like separation of church and state. Like equality of the sexes. Like respect for minorities, free elections, free speech, freedom to gather....

Last evening on "The Situation Room," CNN's Wolf Blitzer apologized for CNN's use of the text "DEPT. OF JIHAD?" used to tease a story about a video produced by the group "Keep America Safe" on Thursday's program: We had a graphic on the screen that said "department of jihad" followed by a question mark and many of you tweeted me that you found that graphic to be offensive. I agree, it was. The graphic referenced a video produced by Liz Cheney's organization "Keep America Safe." Their video features those words on screen questioning the loyalty of justice department attorneys who...

Here is video of Rush Limbaugh taking apart Wolf Blitzer for his bias in favor of President Obama and against George W. Bush and Sarah Palin. Limbaugh plays clips from one day in 2006 when Blitzer repeatedly headlined President Bush's declining poll numbers. He then played what Blitzer had to say recently about Obama's declining poll numbers. The contrast is striking. (VIDEO)

CNN's Kareen Wynter reported "some observers say sure we are just talking comedy here, but on many points SNL couldn't have been more off the mark." CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer did not look so happy as he competed with actress Dana Delany and comedian Andy Richter in a round of “Celebrity Jeopardy.” The photo shows the scores at the end of the first two rounds. Hours before the presidential news conference about health care, I flipped on MSNBC and saw their prominent countdown clock marking the hours, minutes, and seconds until the the appointed time. Then I switched to CNN. Same thing but with the added touch of a SECOND countdown, “Countdown to Black In America 2.” Here is my impression of all this countdown frenzy: WOLF BLITZER: Good afternoon. This is Wolf Blitzer at the Situation Room Mission Control. In just 7 hours the President will be holding a press conference on his health care plan. Over to you, John King… JOHN KING: Uh,...

Poor schlumps out there know how to get along with next to nothing. But these were multi-millionaires that Bernard Madoff wiped out: show some sympathy! That was The Donald's daffy drift in speaking to Wolf Blitzer on this afternoon's Situation Room on CNN. View video here. DONALD TRUMP: They put 100% of their money with this character, this sleazebag. 100% and they're wiped out. On Tuesday's Situation Room, CNN host Wolf Blitzer tried to downplay the significance of the arrest of the Democratic governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich by making an unequivocal statement about Republicans: "You know, most of the scandals -- most of the political scandals...in recent years have involved Republicans...and they're all pretty well-known." He continued by labeling the Democrat’s apprehension a "huge embarrassment." Blitzer made the remark to Karen Finney, the communications director for the Democratic National Committee, during the regular "Strategy Session" segment. Finney appeared with Republican strategist John Feehery, and the three discussed the political implications of Blagojevich's arrest....

It's not exactly an earth shattering scandal but CNN did get caught in a bit of a fib when they declared they were the first to use hologram technology in a broadcast featuring Wolf Blitzer interviewing a Jessica Yellin "hologram" on election day. I put "hologram" in quotes because a perturbed Don Reisinger of CNET News declared that it was false advertising since CNN wasn't using a real hologram. CNN soon backed down from their hologram claim in the face of not only criticism but mockery from the other networks. I suppose the best way to respond is by humor...

CNN has a wonderful new toy that they seem to love playing around with. It's called a "hologram." I put "hologram" in quotes because according to an annoyed Don Reisinger of CNET News, it's not really a hologram. You can get an idea of just how upset Reisinger was with the CNN "hologram" by the very title of his CNET story, "Stop the Insanity: CNN's 'hologram' was horrendous." Can someone please explain to me why so many people are making a big deal about this CNN "hologram" that the channel unveiled during election coverage Tuesday night? See, Don, CNN found...

Wolf Blitzer for one apparently doesn't think Tom Ridge's pro-choice position should disqualify him as John McCain's VP pick. The former Pennsylvania congressman and governor was a guest on this afternoon's Situation Room, and Blitzer began by playing a clip of Rush Limbaugh urging McCain not to pick a pro-choice running mate, saying it would "obliterate all the progress that he experienced" at the Saddleback forum. Ridge surmised that "Rush and everybody else hopefully can see that there's a clear choice regardless of the vice-presidential candidate. A choice that says that John McCain is needed now as president of the...

What is it with these Hillary surrogates putting themselves in the limelight? Bill has famously turned the focus on himself, in effect giving Hillary's concession speech on a recent losing night and more recently exhorting people to elect "me." Today it was Madeleine Albright's turn. Speaking with Wolf Blitzer on this afternoon's Situation Room ostensibly for purposes of promoting Hillary Clinton, Madame Secretary managed to use the "I" word 20 times in under four minutes. Throw in one "my" and another "myself" and that's more than a score of self references. View edited video clip here.

Just in case you thought there was a limit to the vulgarity of Paul Begala . . . Bill Clinton's former adviser was a guest on the Situation Room this aftern0on on CNN. Talk turned to the strategy Republicans should adopt in upcoming special elections. Remember the gay retired brigadier general who chastised Republicans for their stance on gays in the military at Wednesday's CNN/YouTube debate? Turns out Keith Kerr was packing a partisan sword. He's served as a member of an advisory team on gay and lesbian issues to the Sen. Hillary Clinton Campaign. In the words of CNN's debate crew: D'oh! And here's Anderson Cooper falling on his nonpartisan sword. So how did this slip under CNN's radar? Maybe CNN could have checked its own website. Instead, they paid for Kerr's airfare and hotel to St. Petersburg for the debate. This is a...

CNN is defending its job in vetting questions for last night's debate, reports Politico's Kenneth Vogel: The retired general who quizzed Republican presidential candidates about gays and lesbians in the military was not the only person linked to a Democratic presidential candidate who got to ask a question at Wednesday’s CNN/YouTube debate. CNN also aired questions from supporters of Democratic candidates John Edwards and Barack Obama. And that’s fine by the network, which is standing by its question selection process and lashing out at critics who say the debate demonstrated CNN’s liberal bias. “We’re focused on the questions, not the...

"CNN's 'Reliable Sources' is one of television's only regular programs to examine how journalists do their jobs and how the media affect the stories they cover." -- from CNN's "Reliable Sources" website [emphasis added]. Can there be any doubt that, when it comes to "how journalists do their job," the story of the week was Wolf Blitzer's spectacular failure to do his? Going into Thursday's debate, the big question was how Hillary was going to deal with the inevitable grilling over her flip-flopping on the issue of driver's licenses for illegal immigrants. But when Blitzer finally got around to the...

Rush Limbaugh has often indicated that he has no beef with Wolf Blizter. And I must say that I've generally found Blitzer to be a straight shooter who has rarely-if-ever provided grist for my NewsBusting mill. All of which makes that much more perplexing Blitzer's bail-out at arguably the key moment last night's debate. The CNN anchor's failure to follow up on Hillary's monosyllabic answer on driver's licenses for illegals, letting her slide with her terse "no," was in my opinion the greatest single act of journalistic malpractice thus far in this campaign season.

CNN debate moderator Wolf Blitzer did an 'outstanding' job in Vegas, a senior adviser to the Hillary campaign said early Friday. 'He was outstanding, and did not gang up like Russert did in Philadelphia. He avoided the personal attacks, remained professional and ran the best debate so far. Voters were the big winners last night.' A rival campaign insider charges: 'Wolf turned into a lamb. No follow-up question on Clinton's huge flip on drivers licenses?'

When a liberal complains about media bias, you know you’ve asked a question they don’t like. And they don’t like anything that challenges their dogma. It’s understandable that Bill Clinton would want to discredit Fox News, but why would Michael Moore have harsh words for CNN’s Wolf Blitzer? Rarely is the mainstream media tipped from the left but Monday on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Blitzer stayed center and Moore wasn’t happy to be challenged. He exploded at Blitzer when his “truth” about the American healthcare system, portrayed in the new film “Sicko,” was questioned by a short video clip countering...

During Tuesday night’s Republican debate, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer attempted to goad Representative Duncan Hunter into agreeing that the national GOP should be "following that Arnold Schwarzenegger example" in California. This is the fourth time since the 2006 midterms that Blitzer, host of CNN's "Situation Room," has lobbied for the GOP to adopt the liberal policies of the Republican governor. During the preamble to his question, Blitzer noted how "popular" Schwarzenegger is with moderates and approved of how the former actor attempts to "forge a consensus." CNN’s cheerleading for Schwarzenegger’s brand of Republicanism began shortly after the midterm election. On...

This is turning into the gift that keeps on giving. Not only did CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer get totally schooled by the Vice President’s wife last Friday in front of the whole nation, but now he’s actually saying that he was surprised by Lynne Cheney's behavior. On CNN’s Late Edition Sunday, Blitzer set up a replay of the now famous interview with the following (video here): I've been covering the Cheneys for many years, including on a day-to-day basis, when he was the defense secretary during the first Gulf War and I was CNN's Pentagon correspondent. Mrs. Cheney has been...

CHENEY CALLS BLITZER QUESTION ON DAUGHTER'S PREGNANCY 'OUT OF LINE' Wed Jan 24 2007 13:41:22 ET In an interview taped to air for today's 'Situation Room' on CNN, Vice President Cheney responded sharply to anchor Woilf Blitzer's line of questioning regarding the pregancy of Cheney's lesbian daughter: Blitzer: Your daughter Mary, she's pregnant. All of us are happy. She's going to have a baby. You're going to have another grandchild. Some of the -- some critics, though, are suggesting, for example, a statement from someone representing Focus on the Family: "Mary Cheney's pregnancy raises the question of what's best for...

Mon Oct 30 2006 13:07:04 ET In a sit-down interview with Neil Cavuto set to air on FOX NEWS at 4pm EST, Vice President Cheney praises his wife's performance on CNN last Friday when she challenged the cable news network's editorial bias: CAVUTO: Your wife, Mr. Vice President, created a little bit of a stir in an appearance on a rival news network last week, taking exception to the way that network portrayed the economy, the government, that things are going to hell in a hand basket. CNN Anchor Lauds Jimmy Carter as Expert on Iran And Bush’s Iraq ‘Blunder’ Posted by Scott Whitlock on November 29, 2006 - 15:44. The media’s fascination and love affair with Jimmy Carter apparently have no limits. CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer interviewed the ex-president on Tuesday’s "Situation Room" and cited his knowledge and experience of dealing with Iran: Wolf Blitzer: "You know a lot about Iran. You spent the last 444 days of your presidency focusing in on the American hostages."Jimmy Carter: "I remember that."Blitzer: "I know. I remember it very well. I think everyone who was alive remembers it, as...

As NewsBusters previously reported, Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, had a rather heated interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Friday (video of entire must-see segment here). Seeming to recognize how poorly he performed, Blitzer needed some encouraging words from one of his colleagues. So, he brought on Lou Dobbs to pat him on the back, and chastise Cheney (video available here). After some niceties, Dobbs said: Well, I, with all due respect, I don't believe Lynne Cheney could be more wrong, both in tone and in fact. The truth is that this government is not functioning. It...
