If you believed that Clear Channel had a carefully-constructed plan to rebuild New York’s WOR (710) into a younger-skewing talk-and-sports station, this morning’s developments should disabuse you of that notion. WOR raised plenty of eyebrows when it began the new year by replacing morning veteran John Gambling and his 86-year family legacy with Elliot Segal’s “Elliot in the Morning” show, simulcast with Clear Channel FM rockers in Washington and Richmond, Virginia. But as of this morning, Elliot’s gone from WOR without a trace, or much of an explanation. What’s going on? More than you’d think, including a lingering dispute over...

Weekday programming at WABC will include the return of Curtis Sliwa’s and Ron Kuby’s show, “Curtis and Kuby,” from noon to 3 p.m., after an absence of more than six years, and, starting Monday, a one-hour program at 5 p.m. with Pat Kiernan, the NY1 television anchor. Geraldo Rivera, who joined WABC in early 2012, will turn his focus to New York news in a two-hour live show at 10 a.m., as Cumulus announced in November. Michael Savage’s syndicated program, which has been heard in the evenings, will now run from 3 to 5 p.m. “Imus in the Morning,” with...

WOR announced its 2014 lineup Monday, a near-total makeover that moves Joan Hamburg to weekends and instead is built on afternoon institutions Rush Limbaugh, noon-3 p.m., and Sean Hannity, 3-6 p.m.

Clear Channel Talk 710 WOR New York has finalized its new lineup for 2014. With morning host John Gambling retiring at the end of this year and Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity moving from Cumulus’ 770 WABC, all but two daytime hours will remain the same. Elliott Segal’s “Elliot In The Morning“, currently based at Alternative “DC101” WWDC Washington and simulcast on “XL102” WRXL Richmond, VA will move its base of operations to WOR, while being syndicated back to those markets from 6-10am. Before taking over mornings at DC101, Segal co-hosted mornings CHR “Z100” with Elvis Duran. Mark Simone will...

Delta Flight 2255 from Atlanta to Los Angeles seemed to be an ordinary flight with the exception of Candy, who was the most loving flight attendant I’ve ever encountered. Besides using her Southern charm to quickly defuse every situation, she began her welcome announcement by thanking the handful of uniformed soldiers on-board for serving our country. Her poignant message was followed by applause, and it put into perspective that none of us would be able to do what we do without these brave men and women.
  • Rush Limbaugh's move to WOR could be the start of major shift in New York talk radio

Rush Limbaugh's now-official move to WOR (710 AM) on Jan. 1 could be the first in a series of dominoes that reshape New York talk radio. That will be especially true if Sean Hannity joins him and gives WOR the afternoon combo — Rush from noon-3 p.m. and Hannity from 3-6 p.m. — that propelled WABC to the top of city talk radio and has kept it there this whole century. Widespread reports have Hannity wanting to get away from Cumulus, which owns WABC. Hannity’s current syndication deal is through Premiere, which is a division of Clear Channel, which owns...
  • Rush Limbaugh: Don’t blame me for WABC’s declining ad sales

Rush Limbaugh people are saying it’s not El Rushbo’s fault that ad sales have fallen at his flagship WABC — and he made it clear this weekend if the network’s boss keeps declaring it is, he just may pack up his megadittoes and leave. In New York, that would very likely take him to WOR, which would create the biggest shakeup in city talk radio since WOR scooped up Bob Grant after WABC fired him in 1995. Limbaugh’s contract with WABC expires at the end of the year. Lew Dickey, the CEO of WABC parent company Cumulus, has said Limbaugh’s...

<p>Only you're probably not going to like his advice for losing weight -- just eat less.</p> <p>"If you eat less than 2,000 calories you'll lose weight," the mayor said on his weekly WOR radio show today. "If you eat more than 2,000 calories, you'll gain weight. Now some things metabolize more quickly than others. And everyone says I should go on this kind of diet or that kind of diet. Don't eat and you'll lose weight."</p>

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE:Clear Channel may be exiting talk in Boston – but it’s entering the arena in a big way in New York City, where it’s buying WOR (710) from Buckley Broadcasting a year after the death of Rick Buckley. The sale was announced to WOR employees in a meeting this morning, with terms yet to be announced. It’s a big shakeup for the world of New York talk: a Clear Channel-run WOR is almost certain to become the new home of Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks talent, most notably Rush Limbaugh. And Limbaugh, of course, is the staple personality...

<p>Glenn Beck may be one of the hottest talk show hosts in the country, but he apparently left New York's WOR cold.</p> <p>WOR (710 AM), one of the city's two biggest talk radio stations, said this morning it is dropping Beck's syndicated show as of Jan. 17 and replacing him with a familiar New York name: Mike Gallagher.</p>
  • New York's WOR (710) to drop Joey Reynolds overnights, add "Coast to Coast"

    03/10/2010 12:17:50 PM PST · by raccoonradio · 14 replies · 1,130+ views
Premiere’s Coast to Coast with George Noory has been without a New York-market affiliate since Citadel’s WABC (770) recently went with Doug McIntyre’s Red Eye Radio for the overnight hours. Now WOR owner Buckley Radio picks up the popular syndicated Coast to Coast and drops its own Joey Reynolds, after 14 years. WOR has also been syndicating Reynolds through its WOR Radio Network, and that will also apparently end after April 2. Reynolds had just recently cracked the Detroit market on WDTW (1310), and Michiguide contributor Art Vuolo writes about the irony of WOR cancelling Reynolds (“No More Joey Showey”),...

I recieved the following e-mail message today from the Bill Russell for Congress campaign February 25, 2010   RUSSELL OPPOSES SHANKSVILLE TERROR TRIALS 9-11 Survivor Calls on A-G to Give KSM Case to Military Tribunal   (JOHNSTOWN, PA) – Recent news reports have indicated that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is looking for a location less populated than New York City to conduct the civilian trial for 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. War On Terror: As Khalid Sheikh Mohammed receives the benefits of U.S. justice, three Navy SEALs face court-martial for allegedly punching a captured terrorist who hanged Americans from a bridge in Fallujah. Apparently our efforts to impress the world about the marvels of our criminal justice system require us to give foreign terrorists such as Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the man who invented the manned cruise missiles that flew into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and plowed into a Pennsylvania field on its way to the Capitol Building, the full rights and protections of the American citizens he conspired...

Now that Congress has recessed, and since the conventions aren’t for a couple of weeks, Thursday’s The Situation Room turned back to the "hot" issue of what many liberals are calling on congressional Democrats to do: arrest and lock-up Karl Rove for his failure to testify on the issue of the firing of U.S. attorneys in late 2006. CNN correspondent Jim Acosta, as part of a report on this possible move by the Democrats, conducted a search for the supposed jail inside the U.S. Capitol. He also addressed the little-used power of the legislature to arrest and try government officials...

That’s been the speculation in Radio-Info’s T-R-I newsletter – that it would be a joint project, and today CBS and Dial Global confirm that its first affiliate will be in market #1. That’s Buckley-owned WOR, New York (710), which has already been revamping its lineup with the departure of Bill O'Reilly. Philadelphia-based lawyer Smerconish began doing mornings (6-9am) on CBS-owned “Big Talker 1210” WPHT in 2003 and recently has been simulcasting that show on sister WHFS (1580) in Washington, D.C. But this new show with CBS and Dial Global is completely separate from the WPHT/WHFS morning show – a live...

Bill O’Reilly’s just plain over-worked, and can’t keep doing radio. Yes, it’s official, final, confirmed, and you-won’t-have-Bill-to-kick-around-any-more for-sure. That leaves a hole in the daytime schedule for Westwood One, whose then-CEO Joel Hollander convinced the Fox News Channel personality to host a daily “Radio Factor” starting in May 2002. Now the New York Daily News has Bill saying he’ll be giving up his daily radio gig “in the first quarter of next year.” The affiliate count of 430 stations looks very impressive, and Hollander said it was the biggest coordinated launch of a talkshow ever back in ’02. But some...

"We're the only local news/talk station here in NYC in the morning," said John Gambling. Alluding to Imus and WABC's 5 a.m. host Curtis Sliwa, he cracked, "The guy with the cowboy hat and the guy with the beret are going to have to watch their backs." Gambling said, not for the first time, that he has little use for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama and that John McCain is "not the candidate I would put together if it were up to me." Gambling spent the last eight years at WABC (770 AM), after WOR startled him in 2000 by...
