I was watching some old war movies on Monday, and I am reminded of one with an unforgettable scene but whose title I simply cannot remember. It's set in China, and in the scene I mentioned Philip Ahn (Master Kan from "Kung Fu") is calmly teaching his students as the Japanese bombs fall around them. He asks them what their country is. "Our country is goodness" says one student. "Our country is kindness [or something like that]" says another. "Goodness and kindness [or whatever] make fine countries," he tells them. It is impossible to debate a subject like genocide without giving offense. PBS is supposed to give offense responsibly. And that was the idea behind a panel discussion that PBS planned to show after tonight's broadcast of "The Armenian Genocide," a documentary about the extermination of more than one million Armenians by the Turkish Ottoman Empire during World War I. The powerful hourlong film will be shown on most of the 348 PBS affiliate stations. But nearly a third of those stations decided to cancel the follow-up discussion after an intense lobbying campaign by Armenian groups and some members of...

JERUSALEM -- A Nazi war criminal known as "Dr. Death" for sadistic experiments that killed hundreds of prisoners during World War II has been tracked down to Spain, an Israeli newspaper's Web site said Saturday. Spanish police said they had not yet found the man. The German weekly Der Spiegel said Spanish investigators believe the 91-year-old suspect, Aribert Heim, has been in Spain recently. Police said they had not found Heim during searches after receiving indications that he was living in the northeastern province of Girona. "We haven't detained anyone with that name," said Joan Lopez, a police spokesman in...
