Some Butte teens may be crying over spilled milk. That’s because they face possible charges for imitating an Internet prank known as “gallon smashing” that has gone viral recently. Butte police say one 15-year-old boy was cited with misdemeanor criminal mischief and theft for intentionally destroying two one-gallon cartons of milk in Walmart Friday evening. Police suspect three other teens may have been involved and charges were pending Monday. BEAVER FALLS (KDKA/AP) – Police are searching for two 14-year-old boys, and reported a 13-year-old who are charged as adults with fatally shooting a Beaver Falls woman. Beaver Falls police have charged Todavia Cleckley and Marcus Velasquez with criminal homicide and other charges in Saturday’s shooting of 22-year-old Kayla Peterson. She was shot at a house about 3:30 p.m. that day and died at Allegheny General Hospital two hours later. Four Hofstra University basketball players were arrested on burglary charges stemming from dormitory room break-ins, police said Friday. About 50 people simultaneously shoplifted from a Silver Spring, Md., 7-Eleven Saturday night. Officers arriving at the store in the 12200 block of Tech Road after 11:20 p.m. saw several people gathered in surrounding parking lots and on side streets, police said. My wife and I have different perspectives on the youth violence epidemic that currently plagues our urban neighborhood. She thinks some of the miscreants could be helped by more targeted after-school programs staffed by caring adults. I think there are plenty after-school programs and, besides, the teens perpetrating the violence, often after 11 p.m., are not the sort of individuals who would attend after-school programs. A woman who confessed to her role in a vicious beating of a transgender woman in a Maryland McDonald's has been sentenced to five years in jail. Teonna Brown, 19, pleaded guilty last month to first-degree assault and a hate crime and was sentenced in Maryland court on Tuesday. A series of fights broke out after a teen dance party in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday night, causing wild scenes on busy streets, and leading to the arrests of three participants. HARRISBURG, Pa.—Foreign students who walked off their jobs in protest this week at a plant that serves The Hershey Co. may soon be getting a free trip to see some of the United States' cultural and historical landmarks. Rick Anaya, chief executive of the nonprofit that helped bring the students to the U.S., said Friday that the plan emerged after a two-hour conference call with representatives of the other companies involved in their employment. The students began a strike Wednesday, saying their work was so strenuous and low-paying they've been unable to see much of the country.

WEST ALLIS, Wis.—West Allis police say the ongoing investigations into 11 violent incidents on the opening night of the Wisconsin State Fair suggest race did play a role. The 11 incidents included nine assaults, a robbery and an attempted robbery. All the victims were white or Hispanic and the offenders were described as African-American. On opening night of the fair last week, 31 people were arrested and at least 11 people were hurt. The West Allis Police Department is handling some of those cases.
