We Ask Again: Where Is Karen Hughes?

“We are great with TV but we are getting crushed on the P.R. [Public Relations] front.” —President George W. Bush when asked by NBC News reporter Brian Williams on August 29, 2006 why there is so much anti-American sentiment and out-right hatred for America in many parts of the world. In view of President Bush’s statement, we feel compelled to ask again a question we raised about 10 days ago: “Where is Karen Hughes?” More precisely, “Where is the United States’ campaign of truth and honesty in the Middle East?”Not long ago, a thug named Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader,...

Big Brother watches Free Republic. I was reading the post DIESEL BLUES I had PerrGuardian 2 running; and what do I see being blocked U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 72.240.241.61:1395. (Source), 134.67.99.207:80 (destination), and U.S. Department of Energy 72.240.241.61:1415 (source), 205.254.143.167:80 (destination). Maybe now I should wait for the knock on the door, but I don’t think they will knock first. They will probably just take my harddrive to see what other NEWS I am reading.

Why so many garbage articles?

When I check into this site, often there were interesting discussions from the day before I want to look at. But they are already buried 4 pages deep because it seems some people just post anything they find. Who cares about a radio station promotional announcements, Bruno Kirby dying, or any of this other tripe that some people are posting up. I'm new here, but it seems that some guys are pretty much spamming the blog with articles that rate a "1" on the who gives a crap meter.
As a Jew, I Say Israel is Wrong (As the Juwish Mod, I say ZOT!!!)

I know I'm going to catch hell for this, but it's time to say something. Israel is wrong. There aren't two sides to this anymore. I've heard all I want to hear from Israel. It's time to stop the attack on Hezbollah, withdraw back into Israel, stop firing bombs into Lebanon, and shut up for a while and let everyone else sort this out. It's not just Israel's problem. There are hundreds of millions of lives at stake in the Middle East, and this time not only has an Arab country, and that's what Hezbollah is, withstood Israel's attack, but...

New York’s Ruling on Gay Marriage & the Imperative to Move the Debate from Courts to Legislatures

Just over a month ago in making the case for a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman, President Bush said, “An amendment to the Constitution is necessary because activist courts have left our nation with no other choice.” Like the president, many other supporters of this gratuitous amendment believe it is necessary to prevent state courts from requiring their jurisdictions to accord same-sex unions the same status as traditional marriage. Well, that argument became less compelling this morning when New York’s highest court ruled “that gay marriage is not allowed under state...

D-I-V-O-R-C-E -- and gay marriage

The New York and Georgia state high courts have both refused to find a right to gay marriage under their state constitutions. (The New York opinion is available online here.) I favor gay marriage, though I do think as a practical matter that it's probably better to achieve this goal through the political process than by judicial action....

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s release of the “The State of the Workplace 2005-2006” report shows that, for the first time, a majority of Fortune 500 companies, 253 (51 percent), offer domestic partner health insurance benefits. This is a 1-hour presentation about a scandal that dwarfs Enron, a scandal that should be as important in our thinking as the War on Terror and in fact interplays with WOT. Once America has an understanding of this scandal, the revolution that ensues will change American markets and politics as severely as the Great Depression transformed American society of the 1930s and 1940s.
SHEER COINCIDENCE: Last Monday, the Social Security and Medicare trustees released their annual depressing report. On Tuesday, congressional negotiators handed President Bush a "victory" -- his assessment -- in agreeing to extend his capital gains and dividend tax cuts. Mr. Bush and his fellow tax-cuts-above-all proponents would like you to believe that the two events are unrelated. But taken together they underscore the terrible fiscal predicament that Mr. Bush has chosen to bequeath to his successor. According to the new estimates, the Social Security trust fund will be depleted in 2040, one year closer than last year's projection, while Medicare's...

Just a little dose of reality for some of you going nuts over the Immigration issue, because there is NO chance that you will win on the border enforcement issue. No chance whatsoever. Only after a migrant worker program passes, making most of these illegal aliens legal, is there any chance at all to have meaningful border enforcement. Bush is not running for office anymore, but the Republican Congress is in need of a big victory in November. This issue will kill our chances to maintain the majority, and knowing that, Bush will likely veto any bill making illegal immigration...
