The 2012 presidential election cycle is underway. With the Democratic candidate a foregone conclusion, there is not much uncertainty about where the Democratic Party is going. For better or worse, Democrats will likely continue to “dance with who brung them,” meaning Barack Obama and his brand of 21st century liberalism. Not so on the Republican side. After historic defeats and victories in the past two elections, respectively, the Republican Party has yet to define itself for the future. It must come to grips with the fact that its miraculous comeback in 2010, after crushing defeats in the presidential and congressional...

I have added my own commentary throughout this article. -- TaxesR2High Utopian fantasies have long transfixed the human race. Yet today a much rarer fantasy has become popular in the United States. Millions of Americans, the richest people in history, have a death wish. They are the new “Armageddonites,” fundamentalist evangelicals who have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about. Most journalists find it difficult to take seriously that tens of millions of Americans, filled with fantasies of revenge and empowerment, long to leave a world they despise. These Armageddonites believe that they alone will get...

Typical of Democrat parents to ignore the behavior of their offspring to avoid hurting the childs self-esteem. I suppose this parent was there to support the new minimum wage increase as it is probably the maximum she is capable of earning given her obvious skill level and inability to multitask. She's probably sucking tax dollars from hard working Americans too.

Rogers' attorneys submitted their bills to the Office of Public Defense Services, which this month tallied them at the request of The Oregonian. During a seven-week trial that ended in March, Rogers' defense team argued for life in prison, but a 12-person jury sentenced him to death. Blair is in trouble for a major cabinet reshuffle, the highlight being the firing of Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. A column in the London Independent asserts that Straw was dropped because of his opposition to a U.S. military assault on Iran. Straw had labeled the idea of a U.S. nuclear strike on Iran as “nuts” and had said that British action against Iran was “inconceivable.” Apparently, Bush wasn’t too amused. The cabinet...

In fact, the RWNM’s current thinking is Bush doesn’t spend enough time talking about his economic triumphs. If only he did, then everyone would fall in line and believe in the great Bush economic miracle. There is one problem with this argument: it’s a lie. I have been arguing with stupid libs for two days saying that Bush committed no crime because under the provisions of the USSID 18 and the FSIA, he could with perfect legitimacy eavesdrop on aliens involved in terrorist activities if he had AG approval. However, what was puzzling is that Gonzales did not cite USSID 18; he cited the more dubious rationale of war powers approval. This would seem to indicate that Bush was spying on US citizens without a Court Order which clearly violates USSID 18 and the FSIA, and was using war powers approval to cover for it....

    washington post ^ | june 25th 2005 | Ray McGovern
Ray McGovern a 27-year senior CIA intelligence analyst has exposed the lies of the Neocons and the Israeli-controlled foreign policy of the United States. The session took an awkward turn when witness Ray McGovern, a former intelligence analyst, declared that the United States went to war in Iraq for oil, Israel and military bases craved by administration “Neocons” so “the United States and Israel could dominate that part of the world.” He said that Israel should not be considered an ally and that Bush was doing the bidding of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. “Israel is not allowed to be...

I am very worried for Karl Rove. Ir appears he is going to jail, and I don't want him to end up in a bad place where bad things could happen to him (what were those bad federal prisons referred to in the movie "Office Space?") Can we start a petition to give to his sentencing judge to have him sent to a nice prison? Maybe he coould go where Martha Stewart went. Or is that just for women. Let's make sure he goes to a nice place, though.

June 26, 2005 Guest Viewpoint: The party's over for betrayed Republican By James Chaney As of today, after 25 years, I am no longer a Republican. I take this step with deep regret, and with a deep sense of betrayal. I still believe in the vast power of markets to inspire ideas, motivate solutions and eliminate waste. I still believe in international vigilance and a strong defense, because this world will always be home to people who will avidly seek to take or destroy what we have built as a nation. I still believe in the protection of individuals and...

I WAS BORN A CHOSEN PERSON, though this state of affairs was not of my choosing. My mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were staunch Seventh Day Adventists—a Saturday-worshiping fundamentalist sect that arose in the mid-19th century. Our faith's founder prophesied Jesus' Second Coming and "the Rapture" in 1850. When both failed to occur, he instead started the church into which the matriarchs of my family were later born. These strong women gave their offspring no choice but to attend the same churches and share their faith, so attend and share we did. My father and grandfather, however, did not attend church,...

Manorialism, commonly, is recognized to have been founded by robbery and usurpation; a ruling class established itself by force, and then compelled the peasantry to work for the profit of their lords. But no system of exploitation, including capitalism, has ever been created by the action of a free market. Capitalism was founded on an act of robbery as massive as feudalism. It has been sustained to the present by continual state intervention to protect its system of privilege, without which its survival is unimaginable. The current structure of capital ownership and organization of production in our so-called "market" economy, reflects...
